We are no longer surprised by the statements of witnesses, who allegedly saw Flying Saucers in the sky, or Flying Cigars.
There are many pranksters and their imaginations are fertile.
Despite everything, some testimonies, cannot be doubted and it therefore seems that there is a side of truth, both in all these collective... or individual hallucinations.
Thus, for a few weeks now, appearances of bizarre craft in the skies of France have been more and more numerous and more and more curious. See for yourselves:
IN THE LYON REGION
A ROCKET MOVED
AT A VERTIGINOUS SPEED
A 19-year-old young man, Mr. Roland Marchand, made the following statement to the gendarmes:
- Around 11 p.m. on the 15th, I was about 200 meters from Fort Feyson (Isère), when my attention was drawn by a white light. I was then amazed to see standing out in the sky, about ten meters above the ground, a dark spot, surmounted by a dome from which emerged a bright light similar to the combustion of a magnesium torch.
The black "shape" appeared to be slightly elliptical.
"Arrived about fifty meters from this 'space ship', I was amazed to hear a dull sound like that made by a wet rocket. I saw at the same time a shower of sparks shoot up from below the craft. Then suddenly, like a rocket, it rose at a blazing speed, perhaps 4,000 or 5,000 km.-h.
FLYING SAUCERS
IN PARIS
Yesterday morning, Mrs. Mallet and Miss Lucienne Yriex, 71 route de Daumont, in Montmorency, stateded that they had seen the day before, at 5 p.m. a yellow oval craft, accompanied by a luminous trail and swaying from right to left.
Mr. Hébert, butcher, avenue de la liberation, in Petit-Clamart, saw the same phenomenon, at 9 p.m., moving from east to west.
LUMINOUS OBJECTS
IN THE SKY
OF THE ROUSSILLON
A baker from Canet-Plage, Mr. Etienne Err, declared that upon returning from a delivery round with his van, he had seen above this locality a shining disc, which, after having flown in large circles, moved away in the direction of the sea.
Also, seven workers in a factory in the suburbs of Perpignan claim to have also seen an object of an indefinite color, evolving at high speed and which would have crossed the Pyrenees towards Spain.
A FLYING CIGAR
WAS ALLEGEDLY FILMED
Mr. Valéry, director of an auditorium, in Paris, who was traveling to Lyon with his wife, said he saw a flyind [sic] machine.
- It was around 6 p.m. We were walking around when we saw this craft, at about 700 or 800 meters above the ground and it was climbing, vertically without making the slightest sound of an engine.
Behind it left a wide trail of white smoke.
It could not be, in my opinion, a jet plane, of which I would have heard the hissing, because of the proximity of the craft.
Besides, this cigar didn't have the shape [of a jet plane].
Mr. Valéry was carrying an 8mm camera. He hastened to film the moves of the aerial object.
A film, which could undoubtedly be of real value, if Mr. Valéry really saw the strange craft.
MARTIANS
ON EARTH
If one can conceive even with some reluctance, the presence in the sky, of luminous objects which can

well be fireballs, the statements of certain witnesses having indeed seen strange individuals, Martians, for example, are otherwise questionable.
This is how a female resident of Chabeuil, in the Drôme, most seriously in the world, came to declare that she had met in a certain field, something that looked like a kid locked in a cellophane bag... It is claimed that after this meeting, she had to go to bed with a fever of 40°C... That is understandable.
Even better, is the encounter, made by Mr. Yves David, 28, farmer in Les Brouloux, commune of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, who stated he had seen advancing on him, on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil, on September 19, at 10 p.m. a sort of diver. The latter, he said, came to stroke his arm, emitted incomprehensible sounds and withdrew towards a craft which Mr. David cannot describe. A green light beam was projected in its direction, pinning him on the spot, then the craft disappeared in the sky, vertically, without any noise.
Mr. David states that he initially did not want to say anything about this bizarre encounter, for fear that he would be laughed at. However, he shared it with a friend asking him whether other people had seen the diver. This is how the whole country knew about it.
[Ref. llp1:] NEWSPAPER "LE LIBRE POITOU":
A strange story is told by Yves David, 28, a farmer at Les Breloux, Community of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne.
He is, however, a man worthy of faith. Let him speak:
"On Sunday, September 18, I was returning from a sale in Targé, and I was driving on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil-sur-Vienne to my home.
The headlight of my moped did not function very well. Suddenly, between the Poutereau and the Rabotes, I could see a mass in the middle of the road.
"My surprise was great when I saw a kind of cuirass (like a diver) advancing towards me.
"This cuirass stopped at my height, stroked my arm and emitted some inarticulate sounds, and I did not move.
Then the cuirass retreated, and only a few yards away I saw a machine which I cannot describe.
"A green light appeared which paralyzed me and I was unable to move.
"The craft rose from the ground at the vertical and disappeared without any noise."
some may be surprised that Mr. David did not alert the gendarmerie sooner.
He told us that he had told his adventure to his wife and had asked one of his friends to make a discreet investigation as to whether anyone else had seen the craft.
"I was afraid, if I spoke, to be scoffed," he concluded.

Mr. L..., who gave us this statement, added: " At the beginning, I did not want to talk about it, but with the news which appeared these last days in the Press, it seems to me that it could contribute to add one more testimony to the "flying saucers" file."
It seems, indeed, that we are again in the presence of one of these mysterious craft which would have been posed a few moments (in what intention?) on the plains of the area of Aigues-Mortes.
Doctor Martinet, dermatologist in Chambéry, saw a flying saucer evolving above the cross of Nivollet.
- "About fifteen people, he states, can testify of that."
The doctor and his wife returned by car from the col du Chat [pass of the Cat], when they saw over the cross of Nivollet, 2.000 meters of altitude approximately, "a dark aluminum gray mass". The doctor stopped his vehicle, to follow the evolutions of the machine. Three other cars also stopped.
- "I observed my watch, said the doctor. It was 17. 8 ' 40 ". At 17:16 whereas it was presented its face, i.e. in the form of disc, I distinguished a clear zone in the center of the machine and dark spots around. The machine went down right above the teleferic station from the Revard, then disappeared suddenly at the speed of a lightning."
Meanwhile, about fifteen people had grouped around Doctor Martinet and made the same observations he did.
In the departments of the Rhone, Isère, Drôme and Savoy, many people claim to have seen, these last days, with more or less clearness, craft having sometimes the shape of cigars, sometimes of discs.
In the Vienne, a 28 year old farmer, Mr. Yves David, living in Brouloux, community of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, met, on the road of Cenon to Vouneuil, a kind of "diver". The latter "caressed" his arms, emitted unintelligible sounds then moved towards a machine that Mr. David cannot describe, and which rose without noise vertically, then disappeared at full speed.

Lyon, 29. -- In the departments of Rhône, Isère, Drôme and Savoie, many people claim to have seen, in recent days, with more or less clarity, craft having either the shape of cigars, or that of discs.
In the Arbresle region, one of these witnesses, director of a Parisian music hall, even filmed one of these mysterious craft which was moving at a height estimated by him at around 700 meters. We will thus know, after development of the film, whether or not it is an optical illusion.
Near Feyzin (Isère), a young man would reportedly saw in the countryside, not far from the ground, a craft in the shape of a dome and from which a very bright light gushed out, comparable to that caused by the combustion of magnesium. The craft suddenly went up vertically, leaving behind a shower of sparks and disappeared.
In the Drôme, a resident of Valence, Mrs. L... who was walking near Chabeuil, claims to have met in the path that she followed, a small being dressed so oddly that she thought at first that it was a cellophane scarecrow.
The dog accompanying the walker barked furiously, overcome with terror. As for Mrs. L..., also terrified, she hid behind a hedge.
It was then that she saw rising from the maize field which bordered the path, a disc from which emitted a whistling sound. Shortly after, the witness and some peasants went into the field where, according to them, a circular trace approximately 3 meters in diameter was clearly distinguished, with ears of corn lying down and broken branches at the edge.
Other residents of Chabeuil also reported having

spotted a flying saucer flying over the countryside that day.
Finally, in Savoy, near Lac du Bourget, above Mont Revard, several motorists, a total of fifteen people, simultaneously saw a disc-shaped craft move for about four minutes, then suddenly disappear.
One of the witnesses, a doctor from Chambéry, is a former artillery observer. He carefully noted the observations and drew a sketch reproducing the path of the mysterious apparatus.

Châtellerault, September 29 -. Mr. Yves David, 28-year-old, farmer in Broudoux, community of Verneuil-sur-Vienna, stated to have seen advancing towards him, on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil, on September 19 at 10 p.m., a kind of diver.
The latter, he says, came to caress his arm, emitted unintelligible sounds and withdrew towards a craft (that Mr. David cannot describe). A green beam of light was projected in his direction, nailing him on the spot, then the machine disappeared in the sky vertically, without any noise. Mr. David states that initially he did not want to tell anything of this weird encounter for fear of ridicule. He however informed a friend of his, asking him whether other people had seen the "diver". That's how the country knew about it.
Lyon, September 29. -- Between September 15 and 20, several people in the Lyons area, announced to have seen flying saucers. A 15-year-old young man, Mr. Roland M... says: "On the 15th at approximately 11 p.m., I was within approximately 200 meters of the fort of Feyzin (the Isère) when my attention was caught by a white light. I was then amazed to see, detached in the sky, ten meters above the ground, a dark spot from where a sharp light similar to the combustion of a magnesium spot emerged."
The black "shape" seemed slightly elliptic.
Arrived at about fifty meters of this "space ship", I was amazed to hear a deaf noise like that of a wet rocket, I even saw at the same time a shower of sparks spout out of the lower part of the craft. Then all of a sudden, like a rocket, it rose at a tremendous speed, perhaps 4000 or 5000 km/h." In addition, residents of Chaudelas [sic] (the Ardeche) saw on September 17 in the sky, a craft of the shape of a torpedo with the front more luminous than the rest. Was it of an aerolith or an interplanetary apparatus? It will never be known. Lastly, in Lyons, Mrs. J T... indicates that on the 18th at 3:55 a.m., she saw a craft which went back in the sky vertically at a vertiginous pace.
Another testimony, perhaps the most important, was provided to us by Mr. René Valery, artistic director of the Olympia in Paris. Mr. Valery was in Lyon and he stated to us that he had, as well as his wife, sighted a curious "cigar" whereas they were, on Thursday 16, in Savigny, in the Rhone. "It was approximately 6 p.m., he told us. We were walking, when we saw a craft at approximately 700 or 800 m of altitude. It went up vertically without the least engine noise."
Behind it, it left a broad trail of white smoke. It could not be a matter, in my opinion, he still told us, of a jet plane, I would have heard the whistling sound, because of the proximity of the machine. Moreover, this cigar had by no means the shape of a jet."
Mr. Valery, who does not seem to be able to admit, in spite of the testimony of his senses, that he saw a flying saucer, was carrying an 8 mm movie camera. He hastened to film the evolutions of the aerial object.
Perhaps he will know Thursday, while going to get his developed film, if he were as well as his wife, the subject of an hallucination or if, on the contrary, it was really of one of these famous saucers. He waits for Thursday without impatience, the more so as the visibility was not very good and that he fears to have perhaps missed his "saucer".
Let us add that the saucers are not an invention of our century. Indeed, an extract of the memories of the Emulation society of the Jura, for 1864, under the title "Flaming globes" reports the following lines:
"On January 20, 1859 at 04:35 a.m., by a rather strong rain, but a calm and a very black night, the atmosphere was suddenly illuminated by a very bright white light which made it possible to distinguish from far away the objects with a great accuracy. This light was due to a luminous sphere slipping through space from the south to the north, at a great speed. Large numbers of people who, frightened, left their house, believed in a fire. This phenomenon was seen from Lyon to Strasbourg." [Perfect description of a meteor.]
Four other observations of this kind, but less remarkable, are noted on the registers at the following dates: January 10, 1847, November 13 and 17, 1848, and August 11, 1850.
"They must be distinguished from the incandescent spheres which are seen during storms [ball lightning], since their appearance always takes place by a calm weather, without detonation and giving a sharp light."
At the sight of a flying saucer, a locomotive driver falls sick.
MM. Gérard, mechanic and Paroux, driver, who led a wildcat locomotive engine, coming from Nantes, saw yesterday evening, whereas they passed by the location "La Butte Rouge", community of St Nicolas-de-Redon (the Ille and Vilaine), a machine which rose from nearby marshes. This machine, of a certain length, which was followed of a luminous trail, flew during ten seconds above the locomotive and disappeared in the sky. Whereas the mechanic kept his cool, the driver on the other hand, was so frightened that he fell sick and had to undergo a medical examination this morning.

FLYING SAUCERS
(Continued from the 1st page)
One of the witnesses, a doctor from Chambéry, is a former artillery observer. He carefully noted the observations and drew a diagram reproducing the path of the craft.
MM. Gérard, mechanic, and Paroux, driver, who were driving a high-speed machine coming from Nantes, saw, last night, while they were passing at a place called "La Butte du Rouge", commune of Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon (Ille-et-Vilaine) a craft which rose from the neighboring marshes.
This contraption, of some length, which was followed by a luminous trail, flew during ten seconds above the machine and disappeared in the sky.
Whereas the mechanic kept calm, the driver, however, was frightened, he fell ill and had to undergo a medical examination this morning.
Mr. Yves David, 28, a farmer in Brouloux, commune of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, said he saw advancing on him, on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil, on September 10 at 10 p.m., a kind of "diver".
The latter, he said, came to caress his arm, uttered unintelligible sounds and withdrew towards a craft (that Mr. David cannot describe). A green beam of light was projected in its direction, nailing him on the spot, then the craft disappeared in the sky, vertically, without any noise.
Mr. David declares that he did not want to say anything about this bizarre encounter, lest someone makes fun of him. However, he shared it with a friend, asking him whether other people had seen the "diver". That's how the whole country learned about this.
A baker from Canet-Plage, said that when he returned from a delivery tour with his van, he saw above this locality, a brilliant disc which, after having flown in large circles, moved away towards the sea.
Also seven workers from a factory in the suburbs of Perpignan claim to have also seen an object of indefinite color evolving at high speed; which reportedly crossed the Pyrenees towards Spain.
Three residents of Lanta, near Villefranche-de-Lauraguais (Haute-Garonne), Mr. and Mrs. Brunet, and Mr. Gadra, local school teacher, say they saw an orange disc yesterday evening above the village.
The object moved at a great height and moved in a north-south direction.
After being visible for thirty to forty seconds, the luminous disc disappeared on the horizon.
[Ref. ppe1:] NEWSPAPER "PARIS-PRESSE":
THE Martians follow each other and are not alike. In Corrèze, they are small and helmeted. In Portugal, they are gigantic and clad in aluminum.
Schoolchildren in the Lot in turn assure that they saw one yesterday, near Figeac.
The children were on their way to school when it appeared to them.
- He spoke to us, they said, but we didn't understand what he was saying...
Whereupon he went down to a meadow, below the road from Figeac to Cahors. The children saw him climb into a small craft which rose vertically.
- It was a machine that looked like a box, they said.
After the saucers, cigars and flying discs, here is the flying box!
In Vienne, a resident of Montgadé, Mr. Yves David, also encountered, he says, a Martian. It happened on Friday September 17, around 10:30 p.m., on the road from Vouneuil to Cenon when he saw in front of him, placed on the path a bizarre craft about 3 meters wide. A small being descended from it, approached Mr. David and tapped him on the shoulder. After that, he returned to his machine which rose and disappeared, leaving behind a green light.
Saucers are reported everywhere. In Saint-Bazeille (Lot-et-Garonne), two people saw a phosphorescent disc, of bluish tint, crossing the sky. Another, orange in color, was seen in Lanta, near Villefranche-de-Lauraguais. A third, "of an indefinite color", flew over the Perpignan region; seven workers saw it; according to one he went away towards the sea; others say it crossed the Pyrenees.
In the Dauphiné it's a real carousel. Near Feyzin (Isère), it is an object in the shape of a dome; in the Drôme, near Chabeuil, it is a whistling disc. Same thing in Savoy, not far from Bourget Lake, where one of the witnesses, a doctor from Chambéry, former artillery observer, noted his observations and draw a sketch.
In Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon, finally, a mechanic and a driver who drove a locomotive, MM. Gérard and Paroux, see a mysterious object rising from the neighboring marshes. Mr. Paroux fell ill and had to undergo a medical examination.

Stockholm, 23. -- A luminous sphere, which left behind a trail of fire, was photographed last night in Djuv, in the south-east of Sweden. The object, which was moving north, said the witness, was flying quickly, "as high, he said, as a jet plane but without making any noise".
At the Lund Observatory, it is stated that no meteor was observed at the time when the witness photographed the said phenomenon with the telephoto lens.
Perpignan, 29. -- A baker from Canet-Plage, Mr. Etienne Err, said that after returning from a tour of delivery with his van, he had seen above this locality, a brilliant disc which, after having flown in large circles, moved away in direction of the sea.

The object moved at a great height and moved in a North-South direction.
After being visible for thirty to forty seconds, the luminous disc disappeared on the horizon.
Lisbon, 29. -- "Travelers from another world", whose visit to Portugal was announced by a Lisbon newspaper, were not even born from an imagination exacerbated by the countless visions of flying saucers. They were just the creation of hoaxers, which the same newspaper denounced yesterday.
Boulogne-sur-Mer, 29. -- Mr. Raoul Baptiste, 72, a retired entrepreneur domiciled in Wimereux, said he saw a craft, around 11 p.m. Sunday, which could be a flying saucer, heading very low to the north.

Either the most skeptical will soon have to face the facts, or we are currently witnessing a curious phenomenon of collective hallucination from Sweden to the South of France..., unless it is a matter of a vast farce. Everywhere cigars and discs crisscross the sky. They even made a victim in the Redon region. Messrs Gérard, mechanic and Paroux, driver, who were driving a high-speed locomotive from Nantes, saw Tuesday evening, as they passed through the town of Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon, "a craft that rose from neighboring swamps." Whereas the mechanic remained calm, the driver, however, was so frightened that he fell ill and had to undergo a medical examination Wednesday morning. Twice, on the other hand, "Martians" have been seen.
The first, a kind of "diver", was reportedly seen on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil (Vienne) on September 9, 10 p.m., by Mr. Yves David, 23 years old, farmer in the town.
The "diver" came to caress his arm, emitted unintelligible sounds and withdrew towards a craft that Mr. David could not describe and which disappeared silently in the sky while projecting a green luminous beam.
The second "Martian" was very small and oddly dressed. He was reportedly seen by a resident of Valence who was walking near Chabeuil (Drôme). Mrs. L. clarified that she first thought she saw a cellophane scarecrow. The accompanying dog barked furiously, overcome with terror. Mrs. L. then saw rising from the cornfield which bordered the road, a disc from which came a whistling sound. Local peasants claim that there is a circular trace of about 3 meters, with lying ears of corn and broken branches at the edge.

"SAUCERS"
In addition to these exceptional encounters, there is a real aerial carousel in the sky of the Dauphiné.
In the departments of Rhône, Isère, Drôme and Savoie, many people claim to have seen, in recent days, with more or less clarity, craft having either the form of cigars or those of discs.
In the Arbresle region, one of these witnesses, director of a Parisian music hall, even filmed one of these mysterious craft which was evolving at a height estimated by him at around 700 meters. We will thus know, after development of the film, whether or not it is an optical illusion.
And everywhere we claim to have seen saucers: that makes a total of at least a hundred testimonies.
The Southeast is not the only sector affected by the "invasion". Similar descriptions are reported from the regions of Toulouse and Perpignan.
Finally, a luminous sphere is said to have been photographed Tuesday evening in Bjuv, in the south-east of Sweden.
In the vast international saraband of saucers, the Nord region has recently featured with the adventure of Quarouble. In good capital, Lille could not stay behind. Yes, laugh good people... Lille now also has its saucer or cigar... unless it is a disc.
About twenty people from Lille - everyone knows they are reasonable people and hardly subject to hallucinations - saw Wednesday evening, around 8:30 p.m., a mysterious craft which moved in the sky. Always the same green glow and the same silence.
The observers of one evening were gathered near the Porte de Béthune.
One can laugh, one can call people jokers or more wickedly hallucinated... these facts happen all the same very often and in many latitudes. April's Fool lasts only 24 hours.
And let us hope that the "Martians" - if Martians there are - are understanding and peaceful. Otherwise beware! because they seem to have strong aviation.

Mr. David declares that he did not want to say anything about this bizarre encounter, lest someone make fun of him. He did, however, share it with a friend, asking if anyone else had seen the "diver." That's how the whole country found out.

The testimonies are multiplying about the flying saucers. In various French departments, many people claim to have seen, in recent days, with more or less clarity, craft in either the shape of cigars or that of discs.
In the Arbresle region, the director of a Parisian music-hall even filmed one of these mysterious craft which moved at a height estimated by him at around 800 meters. We will thus know, after development of the film, whether or not it is an optical illusion.
Near Feyzin (Isère), a young man reportedly saw in the countryside, not far from the ground, a craft in the shape of a dome and from which sprang a very bright light. The witness compared it to that caused by the combustion of magnesium. The craft suddenly went up vertically, leaving behind a shower of sparks and disappeared.
In the Drôme, a resident of Valence, Mrs. L., who was walking near Chabeuil, claims to have met in the path that she followed, a small being dressed so oddly, that she first thought it was a scarecrow of cellophane. The dog accompanying the walker barked furiously, overcome with terror. As for Mrs. L ..., also terrified, she hid behind a hedge.
It was then that she saw rising from the maize field that bordered the path, a disc from which came a whistling sound. Shortly after, the witness and some peasants went into the field where, according to them, a circular trace of about 3 meters in diameter was clearly distinguished with ears of maize lying down and broken branches on the edge.
Other residents of Chabeuil also said they saw that day a flying saucer flying over the countryside.
In Savoie, near Lake Bourget, above Mont Revard, several motorists, a total of fifteen people, have seen simultaneously a craft in the form of a disc, move for about four minutes, then suddenly disappear.
One of the witnesses, a doctor from Chambéry, is a former artillery observer. He carefully noted the observations and drew a sketch reproducing the path of the mysterious apparatus.
Also, Mr. Yves David, 28, farmer in Les Brouloux, commune of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne (Vienne), said he saw advance on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil on September 19 at 10 p.m. a kind of diver.
The latter, he said, came to caress his arm, made unintelligible sounds and withdrew towards a craft (which Mr. David cannot describe). A green light beam was projected in his direction, nailing him on the spot, then the craft disappeared in the sky, vertically, without any noise.
Mr. David states that he did not want to say anything about this bizarre encounter, lest someone makes fun of him. He did, however, share it with a friend, asking if anyone else had seen the "diver." This is how the whole country found out.
We should also point out that MM. Gérard, mechanic and Paroux, driver, who were driving a high-speed machine from Nantes, saw on Tuesday evening, as they passed by a place called "la butte du rouge", commune of Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon (Ille-et-Vilaine), a craft that rose from the neighboring marshes.
This contraption, of a certain length, which was followed by a luminous trail flew during

ten seconds above the machine and disappeared into the sky.
Whereas the mechanic kept his cool, the driver, however, was so frightened that he fell ill and had to undergo a medical examination yesterday morning.
A luminous sphere, which left a trail of fire behind it, was photographed in Bjuv, in the south-east of Sweden. The object, which was moving north, said the witness, was flying fast, "as high, he said, as a jet plane, but without making any noise".
At the Lund observatory, it is stated that no meteor was observed at the time when the witness photographed the phenomenon in question on telephoto.
Less recent but more impressive, is the account of the captain of the "Groote Beer", Mr. J.-P. Boahoff, of the Holland - United-States line.
Detected in the open sea and observed by himself and his five officers using all the optical equipment on board, it was the size of a half-moon and also circular and bright.
The captain formally excluded the possibility that it may be a weather balloon.
At first motionless, the disc, after a few moments, moved west to disappear behind the clouds at an altitude of about 14,000 meters.

Mr. Yves David, 28 years old, farmer in Les Brouloux, in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne (Vienne), has, in fact, declared to have seen, on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil, on September 19, at 10 p.m., a sort of "diver" come towards him.
The "sound traveler" approached our peasant and stroked his arm.
Then, the conversation not being engaged given the unintelligible language of the visitor, the later retired towards the machine which had brought him.
Mr. David was about to follow him when a green beam of light pinned him in place. And the machine disappeared silently in the sky.
Mr. David declares that he didn't want to say anything about this bizarre encounter, for fear that he would be laughed at. However, he told it to a friend, asking him whether other people would have seen the diver.
And that's how the whole country knew about it.
A resident of Valence, Mrs L..., who was walking near Chabeuil (Drôme), saw a silhouette in the path that she took at first for a "scarecrow" in cellophane. The dog accompanying the walker barked furiously in terror. As for Mme L..., also terrified, she hid behind a hedge.

Other residents of Chabeuil also said they saw a flying saucer that day flying over the countryside.

Paris, 29 (A.C.P. - A.F.P). - Testimonies are multiplying about flying saucers. Three different people phoned the other night, around 10 p.m., to a Parisian daily, to which they told more or less the same story:
"I saw a luminous craft above the Sacré-Coeur: it was heading north."
Doctor Martinet, dermatologist in Chambéry saw a flying saucer move above the Croix du Nivolet.
"About fifteen people," he said, "can testify to this."
The doctor and his wife were returning by car from the Col du Chat when they saw, directly above the Croix du Nivolet, at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, a dark aluminum gray mass. The doctor stopped his vehicle to follow the maneuvers of the craft. Three other cars also stopped:
"I observed my watch, said the doctor. It was 5:14'30" p.m.. The moves of the saucer lasted until 05:18'40" p.m.. At 5:16 p.m., as it was presented from the front, that is to say in the form of a disc I discerned a lighter zone in the center of the craft and dark spots all around. The craft descended directly to the Revard cable car station, then suddenly disappeared at lightning speed."
In the meantime, around fifteen people had gathered around Doctor Martinet and made the same observations as him.
In the Vienne, a 28-year-old farmer, Mr. Yves David, residing in Les Brouloux, commune of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, met on the road from Cernon [sic] to Vouneuil, a sort of "scuba diver." The latter came to "caress" his arms, emitted intelligibile sounds, went towards a craft that Mr. David cannot

A resident of Wimereux (Pas-de-Calais), Mr. Raoul Baptiste, 72 years old, retired entrepreneur, stated he had seen, Sunday evening a flying saucer heading north at very low altitude.
In the Drôme, a resident of Valence, Mrs. Leboeuf, who was walking near Chabeuil, claims to have met on the path she followed, a small being and dressed so oddly that at first she thought it was a cellophane scarecrow. The dog accompanying the walker barked furiously, seized with terror. As for Mme Leboeuf, also terrified, she hid behind a hedge.

Mr. David declares that he did not want to say anything about this strange encounter, lest anyone scoff at him. He told a friend, however, asking if other people had seen the "scuba diver". This is how the whole country learned about it...
PERPIGNAN - A baker from Cannet-Plage, Mr. Err, said that when he returned from a delivery tour with his pickup truck, he saw above this locality a brilliant disc which, after having flown in large circles, moved towards the sea. Also, seven workers of a factory of the suburb of Perpignan claim to have also seen an object of an indefinite color, moving at high speed, and which would have crossed the Pyrenees towards Spain.
Three inhabitants of Lanta, near Villefranche-de-Lauragais (Haute-Garonne), Mr. and Mrs. Brunet and Mr. Gadra, teacher of the locality, claim to have seen last night, above the village, a luminous disc of orange color. The object was moving at a great height and was moving north south.
After being visible for 30 to 40 seconds, the luminous disc disappeared on the horizon.
[Ref. lon1:] NEWSPAPER "L'OISE-MATIN":
Dozens of flying saucers were seen in the last 24 hours in the skies of France, North Africa, the Netherlands and even as far as Denmark and Sweden.
Some believe they have met "Martians"; a witness, manager of a Parisian music hall even went so far as to film one of these mysterious craft which he said was moving at around 700 meters of height, in a sky clear of clouds, for once.
The film is not yet developed and it will only be in a few hours that we will know whether the witness has been the victim, or not, of an illusion.
The craft was one of the many "flying cigars" or "discs" that witnesses said they saw in the departments of Rhône, Isère, Drôme and Savoie.
In this latter region, 15 witnesses saw, for a few minutes, an apparatus in the shape of a disc moving near Lac du Bourget above Mont Revard, then suddenly disappearing.
One of the witnesses, a doctor from Chambéry is a former artillery observer. He carefully noted his observations and drew a sketch showing the path of the mysterious craft.

orange color. The object, they said, was flying at a great height and moving in a North-South direction.
In Kourigra, a locality located about 130 kilometers from Casablanca, reliable witnesses said they saw the day before yesterday, a circular-shaped craft of red color moving at a high altitude and at a high speed.
In Denmark, many residents of the town of Strib also said they spotted a "cigar" while in Sweden a luminous sphere that left a trail of fire behind was photographed Tuesday evening in Bjuv, in the south-east of the country, by a witness.
It is in the Netherlands, where the testimonies relating to the passage of "saucers" multiply, that one is most currently passionate about these aerial phenomena. The curiosity of the population was carried to its maximum by the impressive story given by the captain of a freighter, Mr. J. P. Boshoff of the Holland-United States line. The captain says in fact that with five of his officers and using all the optical equipment on board, he was able to observe at leisure an object "the size of a half-moon" which finally disappeared on the way up, at an altitude of about 14,000 meters.
Such sightings are apparently not without danger to human nature judging by the adventure of Mssrs. Gérard, mechanic and Paroux, driver, who, driving a locomotive coming from Nantes, said they saw, while passing near Saint-Nicolas de Redon, in the Ille-et-Vilaine, a craft that rose from nearby swamps to quickly disappear into the sky.
The mechanic said he had kept his cool but the driver was so scared, said the A.F.P. dispatch recounting the incident, that he fell sick and had to undergo a medical examination the next day.
There are also reports of new encounters with strange beings.
The first case is that of Mr. Yves David, 28, farmer in Les Brouloux, commune of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, in Vienne, who declared - belatedly - to have seen on September 19, at 2 o'clock, a sort of diver who came to stroke him on the arm while emitting unintelligible sounds before flying away inside a saucer.
In the Drôme, a resident of Valence who was walking near Chabeuil also lived, she said, an encounter with a small being which she at first took for a "cellophane scarecrow".
She took refuge, in the company of her dog, as terrified as herself, in a thicket. A few minutes later, she witnessed, she clarified, the start of a disc from which a whistling sound came.
This upsurge in testimonies obviously does not fail to excite public opinion. Will it be possible one day to unravel the mystery of the "saucers"?
[Ref. lme1:] "LE MONDE" NEWSPAPER:
The flying saucers continue with obstinacy their exploration of the French sky, in particular, during these last twenty-four hours, above the area of Dauphiné. Without one being able to predict yet big things on the intentions of their occupants, their sympathy to the race of men appears acquired. Undoubtedly, only the fear of a hostile welcome makes them still hesitate to make closer contacts with the Earthmen.
Thus a farmer of the Vienne, Mr. Yves David, living in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, revealed yesterday that a "celestial diver", met by chance on the road, had carressed his arm" while utterring unintelliggibles sounds". But, probably disappointed by the little eagerness of Mr. David to tie relations, he had gone up in its machine and had disappeared almost instantaneously in the sky...
An inhabitant of Valence, Mrs. L..., made a similar encounter yesterday. Unfortunately for our knowledge of things Martians, Mrs. L..., seized with terror, hid behind a hedge and closed her eyes. When she reopened them a little later, it was to see rising from the field which bordered the path a luminous disc emitting a whistling sound...
A locomotive driver, Mr. Paroux, was no less frightened than Mrs. L... by seeing the other evening above the marshes of Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon (the Ille-et-Vilaine) a mysterious machine which followed a luminous trail. He fell sick from that and had to pass a medical examination...
Optical errors? Hallucinations? No, answer the disciples of the Christ of Montfavet, who have just stated that these flying saucers of which everyone makes fun are the irrefutable proof that their guide, George Roux, is really the Christ making a second coming...
Nobody so far had thought of that...

Les Breloux (Vienne), Sunday, September 19, 1954, 10 p.m.
Yves David, farmer (it seems that farmers are particularly favored!) returns to his farm by motorcycle. He rides merrily on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil and the only thing that bothers him is that its loose headlights is tilted to the ground.
Well! He will arrive anyway. Yet between Poutereau and Rebotes, he slows down because he does not care to go into the ditch. Of course, when he goes slower the brilliance of his headlight decreases because the dynamo delivers less power and if he stops there is no light at all.
It is exactly what he is suddenly forced to do because all of a sudden in front of him in the middle of the road, "a metal encased diver" just appeared.
(Continued on page 6.)
Yves strongly brakes. The diver, which measures about 1 m. 50, advances and like Mr. Mazaud's Martian, takes the hand of Yves. However he is less affectionate because he did not kiss him. Fortunately, as Yves felt a slight electric current and feeling cold. By cons, be talking about. An incomprehensible language course.
- Oumph ... .. Grobezabri Trobobranana!
Then the bottom diver retreat to a dark mass posed on the road. Yves will he set off in pursuit like Marius Dewilde? No, because, as in Quarouble, a powerful green beam of light sprang from the machine and stops the victim in the posture when he set foot on the ground, both hands on the handlebars, standing, the bike frame between the legs. The craft then rises vertically without making a sound, the beam goes off, Yves David can finally move. The scene lasted thirty seconds.
Under the seal of secrecy, Yves has told the case to a friend, after also telling it to his wife and his parents. In short, eight days later, everyone knew. The police investigated and the secret services too. They recorded the statements of the witness.
Today, our special correspondent writes to us that Yves David became a very important person man in his community. Some days ago, when A circus passed in Chatellerault, Yves, carried by force on the podium, where a famous radio program was recorded, recounted in detail his encounter with the "diver" of the flying saucer. He was much applauded, it seems.
Probably nobody thought to ask him if he had been aware of the previous adventures of Messrs. Mazaud and Dewilde as his own is a quite striking synthesis of those? And even if it had been asked... Can we demand of a man the whole country is speaking about, and who speaks to the world through radio, to recognize a mistake, or at least an exaggeration? Put yourself in the place of Yves David.
[Photo caption:] Yves David from Les Breloux (Vienne) received instead of a kiss, a "martial" handshake. The diver this time accompanied his "green ray" by a brief unintelligible speech.

From June GODDARD In Paris
FRANCE, the land of logic, is in the full grip of the fever of flying saucers and of little men in space helmets, who make friendly, if unintelligible, advances to startled peasants, or nail them to the spot with a hypnotic "green ray."
For the past 10 days there have been unnumerable flying saucer reports from peasants, doctors, milkmen, butchers, farmers, housewives, gendarmes, teachers, from the Channel coast to the Mediterranean, from the Pyrenees to the Ardennes, from Britany to Alsace.
According to all these witnesses, the sky over France is alight with sparkling yellow "saucers," bluish globes, "flying cigars," (Once as dramatically reported from Mulhouse in Alsace, surrounded by "12 little cheroots"), plain aluminum "saucers," luminous "cigars," 10 "saucers" which seemed to perform a sort of ballet in the sky, and sometimes just plain "mysterious machines."
Unlike earlier flying saucers, those reported hovering over France fly low, sometimes at about 600 ft, and do not flash across the sky, but remain in view for as long as 15 minutes, or remain apparently immobile.
They variously spit flames, form luminous curtains of light, change color, land and take off vertically without a sound.
MANY French scientists, hitherto skeptical on the flying saucer question, are reported to be somewhat shaken by the multiplicity of reports, and by the fact that some are group observations, or individual reports which tally with others received from adjacent regions.
On the subject of little men or Martians, they reiterate that astronomers have never made any observations which could indicate a high form of life on Mars.
They point out that Mars is a thousand million years older than the earth, and that, if life did once exist there, it probably disappeared in the pink icy deserts which appear now to abound on the planet.
The protagonists of the flying saucers and the little men from Mars have been greatly encouraged by an article in the serious journal, "Forces Aériennes Françaises" (French Air Forces) written by a young aeronautical engineer, Lieut. J. Plantier, and approved by an engineer-in-chief of the Air Ministry.
Lieut. Plantier does not take sides, but merely demonstrates theoretically and by mathematical study that all the phenomenal behavior attributed to flying saucers is perfectly explicable if such machines were using cosmic ray energy,
Lieut. Plantier shows that the reports that flying saucers remain motionless in the sky, accelerate from immobility to 10,000 m.p.h. in a few seconds without any noise, and that living beings can fly in them without being harmed by the acceleration, are completely logical if it is admitted that energy of cosmic rays has been harnessed and that machines can fly at the speed of light.
IRRESPECTIVE of the views of scientists, however, French men and women continue to report daily appearances of saucers and cigars and their encounters with the space men.
First reaction of the honest French citizen in the face of any unusual happening or danger - including, it seems, phenomena from outer space - is to inform the gendarmes.
Accordingly, in villages and towns, bold gendarmes have been "alerted" as the French Press has it, and have been kept busy checking reports and examining alleged flying saucer landing areas for "traces."
Two gendarmes at Chateauroux in Central France themselves saw three luminous green flying objects.
Their police training immediately asserted itself, and they stopped a motor car driver and a cyclist so that they too could look and bear witness. Then the gendarmes made out a full report.
The only tangible evidence to date of a landing is that produced by Mr. Marius Dewilde, a 28-year-old metal worker in the North near Valenciennes.
M. Dewilde, a young man with a hairline moustache, a long - and it must be admitted, humorous - face, said he first saw the "Martians" from his garden near the railway line.
"Two little beings, not more than three feet high," he reported, "each wearing a sort of diving suit with metal helmet, were standing near a 'flying cigar,' which had landed on the railway sleepers."
M. Dewilde had no chance to shake hands or welcome the visitors in the name of the Fourth Republic for, as soon as they saw him, they hypnotized him with a "green ray" while they leapt into their machine which, of course, took off vertically in a thick cloud of smoke without making a sound.
Next day the gendarmes "alerted" at once by M. Dewilde and two inspectors of the Air Force police, found a series of strange regular marks on the railway sleepers, which could have been caused by the "saucer" in landing.
MOST intimate contact with the space men was reported by M. Antoine Mazaud, a farmer, aged 58, with a bushy grey moustache, who lives near Limoges in the Massif central plateau of France.
M. Mazaud alleges that a "Martian" about three feet high emerged from a "flying cigar" and began to talk in an unintelligible tongue. When he realized that M. Mazaud could not understand him, he kissed the farmer on the cheek.
M. Mazaud's argumentative fellow-countrymen, questioning this strange story, immediately wanted to know why a creature from another world should adopt the habit - not even universal on earth, they pointed - of kissing.
"It is surprising that he did not pin a medal on your chest and kiss you on both cheeks," they scoffed.
In view of this unsympathetic response to M. Mazaud's story, it is not surprising, therefore, that M. Yves David, a farmer of Chatellerault, concealed for some days the fact that he had been touched on the arm by a "space man" before being momentarily hypnotized by the "green ray" like M. Dewilde.
M. David was afraid of being laughed at, he said, but eventually asked a friend if anyone else had seen the space man. The friend spread the news and, of course, told the gendarmes.
Two women in the Yonne department gave independent reports of having seen a strange machine in a clearing with a pilot standing next to it. Neither stayed to investigate, however.
DAILY the stories continue. No Parisians have yet reported an encounter with a "Martian," altough, as the wits point out, you would expect them to land on the "Champs de Mars" ("Field of Mars"), the esplanade in the front of the military school.
Cartoonists are fully exploiting the "Martian" and flying saucer season. One, in true Gallic vein, has drawn the classic wronged husband who returns home unexpectedly. He has thrown open the cupboard door to reveal a strange little figure in a spaceman's suit and helmet, and is saying to his guilty wife, cowering in bed: "And that, I suppose, you'll tell me, is a Martian."
Most celebrated flying saucer "spotter" to date in Paris is film star Michele Morgan, who reported seeing one near the Eiffel tower at about 10 p.m.
When Mademoiselle Morgan later complained of the flood of telephone calls from fans and friends who wanted to hear further details, her mother made the dry and essentially French comment:
"You lost a good opportunity that night to hold your tongue."
[Ref. ben1:] "BRIDGETON EVENING NEWS" NEWSPAPER:
Flying saucers stories originated in the United States, spread to Canada, and have now burst out in France. The French saucer tales have a Gallic quality that adds to their fascination.
For instance, a French farmer claims that he was walking along a lonely road, a creature came up to him, caressed his arms, and made inintelligible noises. Then it moved off in a waiting saucer says the farmer, which could not see because he was blinded and temporarily paralyzed by a green ray directed at him. (Only in France would a creature from outer space caress a man who chanced upon him on a lonely road.)
Then a former artillery observer in France reported he saw a dark-gray object hovering over some mountains at about 6000 feet. As he stopped his car to look, the mass suddenly "shot away like lightning and disappeared". The element of romance is missing here, but not that of wonder.
It's impossible to say that flying saucers don't exist; certainly stories about them appear universal. But so, at one time, did stories of witches and fairies come from all over the world. What is universal today is the jitters. It may be these, along with the fantastic devices assembled by science, that cause people to see things in the sky which exist only in their imaginations.

Suddenly, he saw, on the road, in the light of his headlights, within twenty meters of him, a long brown bump (above): he stopped, and, "a small diver" coming out of the ditch rubbed against his shoulder while pushing growls. The being then rushed into the brown mass which had the shape of a reversed pot, the machine rose and disappeared at once.

Les Breloux (Vienne), Sunday, Sept. 19 1954, 10 P.M.:
Yves David, a farm worker (it seems as though they are particularly favored), was returning to his farm by motorcycle. He was rolling merrily along the Cenon-Vouneuil road, with nothing to worry him but the fact that his headlamp had come unfastened and was pointing to the ground. Between Poutereau and Les Rebotes, he slowed down, not caring to run into the ditch. Of course, when he did his light dimmed, since the dynamo drew less power; if he stopped altogether he would have no light at all.
But this was just what he was suddenly obliged to do, for suddenly, right in the middle of the road appeared "a helmet wearer covered with metal." He stepped on the brake violently. The helmet-wearer, who stood about 150 cm (4'11") tall, advanced, and, like M. Mazaud's Martian, took Yves's hand. However, he was less affectionate, and he did not embrace him. This was fortunate, since Yves felt a slight electric shock and a sensation of cold at his touch. On the other hand, the being spoke. His langage, of course, was incomprehensible:
"Oumph... Grobezabri... Trobrobranana"
Then the helmet-wearer beat a retreat, bounding off toward a dark mass sitting on the road. Was Yves going to rush in pursuit of him, like Marius Dewilde? No, for, just as at Quarouble, a powerful green luminous beam shot forth from the craft and immobilized the unfortunate fellow in the posture in which he had dismounted, standing with the motorcycle between his legs and his hands on the handlebars. The machine then rose vertically, making no noise whatever, and the ray went out. Yves David could move again. The scene had lasted thirty seconds.
Under the seal of secrecy, Yves confided the affair to a friend, his wife, and his relatives. A week later everyone knew about it. The police and also the Renseignement généraux (something like FBI?) investigated. They took down the witness's statements.
Today, writes our special correspondant, Yves David has become a prominent man of his community. Some days ago, when a circus came to Châtellerault, Yves was forcibly dragged to the podium where a well-known radio program was being recorded, to tell in details of his meeting with the helmet-wearer of the flying saucer. It seems that he was warmly applauded.
No doubt nobody has ever thought to ask him whether he was aware of the previous adventures of MM. Mazaud and Dewilde, of which his own represents a rather striking synthesis. And even if one did... Can one require a man whom the whole country is talking about, and who adresses the world by means of the radio, to admit an exaggeration, if not an error? Put yourself in his place!
The above is a typewritten note stored in the Project Blue Book Archive. It was probably typed by the late ufologist Alex Mebane, who corresponded with French ufologist Aimé Michel at the time, and it is likely his translation of some French newspaper article.

The author indicates that in September 1954, Yves David, farmer of Chatellerault, in the Vienne, said that a creature dressed in scaphandrical attire like a deep-sea diver came up to him on a lonely road, burbled unintelligibly, paralyzed him with a green ray, and raced back to a saucer which took off silently into the sky. He was unable to describe the saucer.
[Ref. gbr1] GRAY BARKER:
Another farmer, Yves David, of Chatterault [sic], also met up with an affectionate saucerman. The little gremlin. dressed up like "a sort of diver," came up to him on a lonely road, caressed his arm and burbled unintelligible noises to him. Then it went off toward its saucer. This particular saucerian, however, shot a green ray at the farmer as the machine whizzed away, and this temporarily paralized him.
[Ref. jgu1:] JIMMY GUIEU:
The author indicates that on September 19, 1954 in France, Yves David, 28-year-old, farmer in Les Brouloux, community of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, rode by motorcycle on the road from Vouneuil to Cénon when he suddenly saw in the light of his headlight, 20 meters further, a kind of "long brown mass" approximately 3 meters long and 1 meter high.
He stopped and saw in amazement, coming out of the ditch bordering the road, a being of small size dressed in a kind of diving-suit who advanced towards him. The being came to rub against his shoulder while speaking to him in a not understood language, then it stepped back and quickly reached his craft.
At this time a beam of green light was projected from the spacecraft on Mr. David who was intantaneously paralysed and felt on all his body curous prickling resembling a weak electric discharge.
The green ray died out and the "cigar" took off to rush vertically towards the sky without any noise, leaving a greenish gleam behind.
Mr. David was very moved by this encounter and his paralysis and reached home as soon as the spacecraft cleared the road.

David heard the phrases: "Oumph... Grobezabri... Trobobranana!" This being was also wearing a helmet. 39

[Ref. aml1:] AIME MICHEL:
Aime Michel reports that on September 17, 1954, at approximately 10:30 p.m., close to Cénon, in the department of the Vienne, Yves David, resident of Montgamé (the Vienne), circulated on his bicycle on the secondary road 1, going from Vouneuil-sur-Vienne to Cénon, under a dark night since the moon, in this period of equinox and five days after its opposition, was not in the sky at 10:30 p.m.
The area is marshy, with hedges and many small woods, and Yves David could barely distinguish the road, hardly lit by the weak dynamo of his bicycle.
When he arrived near the location "Le Pontereau", close to Cénon, he was suddenly overwhelmed by a curious feeling of weakness, feeling in all his body a sort of swarming, of prickling, "as if I had been electrified".
He could not pedal anymore and stopped and went down of his bicycle. The dynamo not working anymore, he was then in the darkness. While he had been riding, his attention was concentrated on the small spot of light projected by its lamp, and it then took him a moment to be accustomed to the darkness and to see a little farther, whereas the unpleasant impression of ticking had not disappeared. In fact, he was paralyzed.
At this point in time he saw not far from him, posed on the road, a weird apparatus of which he evaluated the dimensions of the apparatus as much as it was possible in the half-light, as being three meters broad on one meter thickness.
He was terrified because he could not move, and he remained a long moment to observe the object which was motionless.
Then, he saw a silhouette detach from the dark mass and moving towards him. It was that of a being of small size, much smaller than a man, who advanced toward Yves David, touched him on the shoulder, emitted a sound similar to an non-human voice, which he could not understand. The being turned over towards the machine, where he disappeared.
A few seconds later, the dark mass projected a kind of greenish gleam and flew away "at a temendous speed and disappeared in the sky" above the trees.
At the same time, Yves David recovered the use of his members. While shaking with fear, he could go up on his bicycle and return at his place in Montgamé, where he told of his mishap.

The authors indicate that a landing incident took place on September 17, 1954 at about 10:30 p.m. between Vouneuil-sur-Vienne and Cenon on Route D1, as Yves David was riding his bicycle along the road under a dark night without moon, in a wooded region with many bushes and hedges. His bicycle's headlight gave only a dim light and he could not see very well.
As he came near Le Pontereau, near Cenon, he felt a sensation of prickling and/or itching all over his body, somewhat like an electric shock. He was unable to continue, he stopped, got off the bicycle, and since his light worked off a generator fed by pedal power, it went out and he was then in total darkness.
The prickling sensation was still there and he felt paralyzed. But his eyes were getting used to the darkness and he noticed, a strange craft which he thought to be about 9 feet long and 3 feet high, posed not far ahead on the road.
He was then terrified, unable to move. He saw a silhouette move away from the dark mass and approach him, which was creature much smaller than a man. It came to him and touched him on the shoulder, uttering an incomprehensible and completely inhuman sound at the same time. It then moved back to the craft where it disappeared.
Seconds later the dark object gave off a greenish light and flew off at great speed, and was lost of sight in the sky.
As soon as the object left, Yves David recovered the use of his limbs. He got onto his bike and headed for his home at Pontgame where he told of his experience, trembling with fear.

Yves David, aged 28, farmer in the Brulous in Vouneuil, circulated by bicycle on the road going from Cenon to Vouneuil-sur-Vienne. He arrived at the location "Pontereau", when he was suddenly overwhelmed by a weird weakness.

French ufologist Michel Figuet investigated on a UFO sighting reported in a newspaper, which wais said to have occurred between Cenon and Vouneuil sur Vienne on September 19, 1954. Figuet later said that "the newspaper made up the story."
In the book by Figuet and Ruchon, it is noted that on September 19, 1954, at 10 p.m. between Cenon and Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, at the locations "le Poutereau" and the location "les Rabottes", a 28 years old peasant of les Breloux in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, Yves David, was returning from a sale in Targé and circulated on the road. He told:
"The headlight of my motorcycle did not work very well. Suddenly, being between le Poutereau and les Rabottes, I distinguished a mass in the middle of the road. My surprise was great when I saw a kind of armour (as a diver) which advanced towards me. This armour stopped at my level, its arm carressed me and it emitted some inarticulate sounds. I did not move. Then the armour withdrew. At this point in time at a few meters merely I saw a machine of which I am unable to give a description. A green light appeared which paralyzed me and I had no possibility to move. The machine rose from the ground vertically and disappeared without any noise."
Figuet and Ruchon note that there are differences in what is reported back by Aimé Michel and by Jimmy Guieu: Jimmy Guieu reproduces what appeared in newspapers of the time, while Aimé Michel indicates that the witness could not pedal anymore and felt like an electric swarming in all his body, then is got down of his bicycle with difficulty, and recovered the use of his members only after the mass had disappeared in the sky at a tremendous speed.
The authors indicate as sources the newspapers Dauphiné Libéré, France-soir, Le Parisien et La Croix for September 30, 1954, the catalogue by Jacques Vallée and the books of Garreau and Lavier, Michel Carrouges, Jimmy Guieu.

September 17th.
It was a moonless night, the night of the 17th, and the small lamp on M. Yves David's bicycle projected a feeble beam. As he peddled down Route D-1 near Cenon, France; a spooky, wooded area, he became aware of a strange prickling feeling as if he was receiving an electrical shock. A paralysis crept over his body until he had to stop and dismount. The bicycle's lamp, fed by pedal power, went out, leaving David in a darkness lit only by the stars.
Down the road a bit David could barely make out an oblong dark mass he estimated was about 9 feet wide and three feet high. David wanted to flee but his muscles wouldn't obey. Unable to move, David watched as a shadowly figure left the vicinity of the dark mass and moved toward him. As the figure came near, David could only determine that the thing was a living creature "smaller than a man." The being came close enough to touch David's shoulder and utter something that he could not comprehend after which the being returned to the dark mass. Within moments after that, the dark mass emitted a greenish light and launched itself skyward with terrific velocity. With the departure of the dark mass, control returned to David's limbs. He was back to normal except for a bad case of nerves, an intense fear that made him tremble. 74.
According to the newspaper France-Dimanche, Yves David heard the words, if indeed they were words:"Oimph... Grobrezebri... Troboranana!"
The paper proposed: "... the publication of a Franco-Martian dictionary for use by madmen." 76.

A front page story.
October 3rd. London's Sunday Dispatch.
So much was happening in France the English press was forced to take note. Actually the story was too big. The London Sunday Dispatch could only print a summary on its front page. With the situation unclear, errors and the lack of detail was inevitable in the reporting. The Dispatch informed its readers:
"Near Grenoble farmer Joseph Habrat saw a luminous engine moving at great speed.
"His daughter, Yvette, said it came to within 600 yards with a gentle snoring sound.
"A little later two thousand people saw a dozen of them 'dancing a ballet' in the sky.
"Two people at Rixheim, near Mulhouse, watched a cigar-shaped luminous engine surrounded by twelve smaller satellite cigars.
"Three holiday-makers on Carry-le-Rouet beach saw a half-cigar over the port. Three women who saw it described it as leaving a trail of smoke.
"A flying mushroom was reported by a lorry-driver and his friend at Faremontiers. It was in a field and had three tripod-like legs.
"'I tried to approach it,' he said, 'but about four hundred feet away I was stopped by a ray. I felt little prickings. My head swam. I had a cold sweat. I could not move.'
"The mushroom then rose slowly and flew off.
"Dr. Martinet, skin disease specialist at Chambery, watched a flying saucer manoeuvring in the sky for four minutes.
"In the gulf of Gascony the mate and two seamen of a cargo boat saw a moving disc with a greenish glow.
"Actress Michele Morgan saw a luminous disc over the Invalides air terminal in Paris.
"There have been three reports of men from another planet landing in France.
"At Vienne a farmer said the visitor, who wore a kind of diving suit, caressed his arm.
"A woman at Drome saw a being about the size of a child and with a human face. He seemed to be wrapped in a transparent sack.'
"Both visitors to France returned to their saucers and took off vertically.
"A little helmeted and booted man with a revolver firing 'luminous and paralysing rays' was seen by the foreman of a quarry at Marcilly-sur-Vienne and six of his workmen.
"A whistling sound drew the attention of two men at Blanzy to a cigar-shaped machine in a freshly ploughed field.
"The men said the machine was about six feet in length. The pointed tip was yellow, the rest of the cigar brown.
"As they approached the machine it rose vertically.
"A policeman, a grocer, and eight other people saw an incandescent 'cigar' at Agen.
"A brilliant ball appeared to a stallkeeper at Belesta. He said it left a trail of grey smoke as it shot through the sky."
The author of the aforementioned account noted that at the same time that day (October 3, 1954) 40 miles away an amazing "sky display" was taking place above a wooded area near the village of Marcoign, France, before 20 witnesses. That so many people at the same moment at different locations should have a similar hallucination boggled the writer's mind, so much so he consulted a psychiatrist assigned to the Law Courts of the Seine, a Dr. Gouriou.
"Is mass "delusion upon this scale possible?"
The above question was put to the mental health expert who replied he had never known a flying saucer to play a role in any of his patient's hallucinations, and that hallucinations were usually sounds rather than visual images. Moreover, when on rare occasions visual disorders did occur, such problems were nearly always due to toxemia or cerebral lesions which would certainly help to rule out the possibility of a "mass visual delusion." 24.
Dr. Gouriou then wisely ended the interview with: "...I for one think that those who maintain that they have seen saucers do so in good faith, unless of course they are trying to hoax us. But we must never forget that whatever a normal human being sees, he, to a considerable extent interprets, and this fact alone renders all human evidence fallible." 25.

40 - Case of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, Vienne.
On September 19 at 10:00 p.m., Mr. Yves David is riding a moped in the direction of Vouneuil. Between the places called "Les Poutereaux" and "Les Rabattes", he noticed an object in the middle of the road that he could not identify. Then a kind of "diver" advances towards him, touches him while emitting incomprehensible words then regains the object. An intense light shoots out and Mr. David feels paralyzed. Finally the thing takes off vertically and disappears in the darkness of the night.
B& B [Barthel and Brucker, see [bbr]] classify this incident as a "journalistic invention" (p. 100), without giving any credible explanation to justify this peremptory and definitive verdict.
If they had taken the initiative to consult a local source, in this case Le Libre Poitou, September 30, 1954, page 5, they could have realized their mistake. See O. D. 22.
Indeed, this Poitiers daily devoted an excellent report to this affair, going so far as to send one of its journalists on site to carry out a neighborhood investigation; which already shows the professional conscience of the reporter who carried out this work. This man is Mr. H. Bussereau, who signs the article with his name. This investigator went to the hamlet of Breloux, where the witness lived. He questioned the neighbors and especially Yves David's mother. Mrs. David confirmed that that evening, her son came home "all agitated", unrecognizable to the point that the brave lady thought he had had an accident.
In Montgamé, a neighboring village, the information obtained by H. Bussereau about the witness was good: "he's not a prankster, he's a serious guy", he heard himself say everywhere he went. It should be noted that the general feeling expressed by the entourage of the witness, according to this journalist, went towards a secret weapon being tested rather than "a landing of Martians on earth using flying saucers," to resume his own terminology.
Better: Mr. Yves David had not gone to the Gendarmerie for fear of being ridiculed. He had asked a friend to inquire discreetly to find out whether other people had seen the phenomenon in his area that same evening, and it was because of this somewhat too talkative enquiry that the affair became known and reached the ears of journalists. Without this too active tongue we would never have known anything about this incident.
Also note that on September 29, the Radio-Circus was in Châtellerault. At the time, it was a very popular program that aired every day on Radio-Luxembourg, hosted by the famous Zappy Max. My source indicates that that day, Mr. Yves David was questioned on the antennas by Zappy Max about his experience. So hundreds of thousands of French people heard his story live. Indeed, Le Libre Poitou of the same day, page 5, already gave the basic information.
Journalistic invention? I would rather say: invention by B & B!

The Belgian ufologist indicates that in 1954, on September 19, in France in Vouneuil sur Vienne "22:30, Yves David, farmer, suddenly sees in the light of his motorcycle's headlight, 20 m further, a kind of long brown mass of approximately 3 m length for l m in height. He stopped amazed and saw coming out of the ditch bordering the road a being of small size covered of a diving-suit and who advanced towards him. The dwarf rubbed with him and spoke to him in a foreign language; then it moved back and reinstated its craft. At this time a green ray was projected on Mr. David, who paralysed instantaneously felt on all the body tickling like electric discharges of low intensity. The green ray died out, the cigar took off to dive vertically in the sky without noise, leaving a greenish gleam behind. He indicates that another version is: "IN REALITY: all that relates to the humanoid would only be a journalistic invention (communication J. Giraud) (Erich ZURCHER: "Les apparitions d'Humanoïdes" - Alain Lefeuvre pub. 1979, p. 175)".

No. 6 ...the farmer a jar.
At 10:30 p.m. on September 19th, M. David, a farm worker of Breleux (near Poitiers) was returning home on his motor bicycle. Suddenly, he saw on the road, in his headlights beam, 20 meters in front of him, a long brown object. He stopped, and a little helmeted man, coming out of the ditch, came up to him and rubbed against his shoulder, grunting. The creature then hastened into the brown mass (which was shaped like a jar). The machine rose and immediately vanished.
These French cases can be found on page 75 of the monograph UFOs: A History 1954 September. Translations of the French text were also done by NICAP's "ADM." [Alexandre Mebane]

The Australian ufologist indicates that on 17 September 1954 at 2230 in Cenon, France, cyclist Yves David felt a "prickling” sensation, stopped the bike, and stood for a few minutes, and then felt paralysed. David saw a machine on the road ahead of him, then a little creature approached him and touched him on the shoulder and returned to the machine. The dark mass left, and the paralysis ceased.
He says it is one of the 15 cases in France in 1954 where there was a reported paralysis of the witness or witnesses when they were within a certain distance of a low-level UFO, distances that are 6m (1 case), 20m (2), 50m (2) 100m (1) and 150m (1). He adds that there seems little doubt about a relationship between the UFO and the paralysis, as the paralysis commenced upon observing the UFO and then ceased when the UFO left.

CENON (VIENNE : FRANCE)
Yves David (28) of Pontgame was cycling from Vouneuil-sur-Vienne to Cenon, on this dark night, when at a place called Le Pontereau just outside Cenon, a wooded area, he felt a sort of prickling in his body, like an electric shock. This forced him to stop and dismount, this causing his bicycle lamp to fail. The prickling intensified and he felt paralysed. In the darkness, as his eyes adjusted he saw ahead of him on the road, an object about 3m long and 1m high. After a time he saw a silhouette move towards him from the dark object, this resolved itself into a small being, much smaller than an adult man, that came up to Yves, touched him on the shoulder and utter a sound “inhuman and incomprehensible”, then moved back to the strange object, where it disappeared. A few seconds later this dark mass emitted a greenish light and took off at high speed. According to Alain Gamard this story is a press invention.

The author indicates that there was a close encounter of the third kind between Cenon and Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, in the Vienne, on September 19, 1954, at 10:00 p.m., with Yves David, 28, a farmer of "Breloux", commune of Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, as witness.
He was returning from a sale at Targé and was traveling on the road from Cenon to Vouneuil. He told: "Suddenly, between the Poutereau and the Rabots, I saw a mass on the middle of the road, and my surprise was great when I saw a kind of cuirass. The armor stopped at my height, stroked my arm and emitted a few inarticulate sounds, I did not move, then the cuirass retreated, only a few yards away. A green light appeared which paralyzed me and I could not move, the machine lifted from the ground at the vertical and disappeared without any noise."
Julien Gonzalez notes that in the book "Les Apparitions d'Humanoïdes" by Eric Zurcher published in 1979, Alain Gamard points out at page 175 that everything about is said to be a journalistic invention according to a communication by Jean Giraud. Contacted, Jean Giraud could not confirm the fact and if there had been a counter-investigation on his part on this case "which must therefore be taken with all the cautious that is necessary as to its authenticity."
