Summary:

The regional newspaper Le Provençal of October 20, 1954, reported on page 12, among other observations, that on October 17, 1954. around 5 a.m., Mr. Léon Baudouvin, city councilor, passing boulevard de la Plage at Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer with his car, had seen a "circular craft emitting a purple light, rise in the air, leaving behind a trail of flames."

Whereas it would have been sensible to think that it had been a meteor, Jacques Vallée in the 1960s called this a "UFO landing", and of course he will followed in this estimate.

SY-CYR-SUR-MER [sic] (VAR : FRANCE)

Andre Csimir [sic] was out hunting on his moped when he saw a powerful light in the Boulevard de la Plage. He tried to drive towards it, but his moped would not move forward. The glow went out and he could then go on. An hour later, a local councillor, Leon Baudouvin was driving in the area when he saw a circular object, emitting a purple light rise from the ground, leaving a trail of flames.

The second observation looks like another meteor

Explanations:

Map.

Probable meteor.

As there is no guarantee that the witnessed precisely checked their watches, the two sightings, at 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., may have been caused by the same meteor.
