The case allegedly occurred near a city of the French Riviera later identified as Gorbio, on a forgotten date of spring 1954 and the witness definitely wanted to remain anonymous. He told what follows, noted by ufologist Jean Chasseigne.
During the night, the witness was walking to return at his home. He initially heard sounds similar to that of a hammer knocking an anvil, then one minute later he hears some voices burst out and thinks that these voices must come from a nearby house.
The witness did not stop walking and continued on a private pathway which he was used to walk by and which goes towards a terrace, followed by a staircase which leads down towards another terrace. After some steps on this staircase, he was amazed to see within ten meters in front of him, a luminous object landed on the ground. The object is a machine in the shape of a disc with a small dome on its upper part. The dimensions of the craft were of 5 meters in diameter and 1 meter 20 in height. The object was stationed at one meter approximately above ground-level and its left side as seen from where the witness stood seemed to shine as if it were made out of golden metal.
On the left of the machine, stood a being of approximately 1 meter 60 of size. His head was clothed with something very adjusted like a helmet or a mask, which wrapped all his head and shone a white gleam.
At the time when the witness arrived and saw him, the being turned his head around looked towards the witness. The witness then realized that some sort of veil which started from the face and went down to the chin where it was clearly cut, with a bulge at the level of where the nose normally is, hid the face of the being entirely.
The character then suddenly started to utter odd sounds as if he spoke to somebody. At this time the witness notes that indeed a second creature is squatted under the machine as if it made an examination or a repair of it. Apparently hearing the first character, the second moves back of some step while remaining curved then once he was out of the lower part the machine, he stood and turned around.
The witness can then see that this second character is dressed in the same manner than the first, with the same veil on the face, but is smaller, of less harmonious proportions and a larger head.
The second character, when he turned around, touches an object he carries on the belly. From there, a beam of white light spouted out, and touched the witness who found himself paralyzed.
Terrified and unable to flee, the witness saw the two characters approaching him while exchanging high pitched vocal sounds. When he arrived at ten centimeters of the witness, the smallest being raised his veil which hid his face using the left hand. He seems to make a gesture to invite the witness to look at his face.
The horrified witness described that the face of this being was frightening, with disjoined lips showing all his teeth, which were white and regular. The face was very high and very broad, the cheeks were embossed and the chin quite pointed. The nose was very thin and nozzle like an eagle's beak. The being has a beard strewn on the right cheek and a skin of tanned complexion. The eyes, which initially appeared to the witnesses as simple holes in orbits, comprised neither iris nor pupil but only one enormous white sphere. From the left eye, a brown liquid run down to the corner of the lips, which was a particularly horrifying sight to the witness.
The creature then let the veil fall back down, and seems to get agitated as if trying to convince the witness to come into the machine. The first character seemed to invite his companion to calm down and to give up inviting the witness on board.
Both then slowly moved towards the machine and went up on board with difficulty, one helping the other. The witness did not manage to distinguish the opening but the two beings did enter. The witness heard a metallic noise as that of a metal door which closes, then a lighter metallic noise of which he compared to the noise of a hand rubbing corrugated metal sheet.
At this time, the witness lost consciousness.
When he came back to his senses, he saw that the machine is now at ten meters above the ground and at approximately 50 to 70 meters away of him. The machine rotates while emitting a gentle sound comparable with that of a ventilator. Its shape seemed different from that it had when on the ground: the witness now saw two bulges or domes, one between the center and the edge, and the other in the center. There were enlightened portholes on these two bulges. The object did not shine anymore, its contours were now distinct.
Then, a violent flash illuminates all the landscape and the machine takes a golden color and became surrounded by an orange halation, which illuminated the vegetation around with this color in an eerie manner.
The machine then rose abruptly with a spiraling trajectory and it reached approximately 500 meters of altitude in a few seconds. There, it stopped and remained motionless one moment, then it left horizontally while emitting small sparks which became increasingly important as the machine moved away while taking speed.
On the ground level, an odor that the witness did not manage to identify was remaining.
The witness came back on the location on the next day to try to find a material proof of what occurred, but he did not find any, simply noting that part of the grass was flattened where the machine and the occupants had been. Not having a proof, he estimated that nobody will believe him.
In addition to his report to Jean Chasseigne, the witness apparently also reported his experience to Pierre Bellemare on Europe 1 radio in France in February 1976.

(previously unknown)
Investigation by Mr. CHASSEIGNE
This observation was made in the spring of 1954, without further details as to the date. On the other hand, the witness has a very precise memory of the time: 2:40 a.m. It took place near a town on the Côte d'Azur, in one of those small valleys that open onto the sea.
The witness, whose sincerity I am convinced of, wishes to remain anonymous, given his extraordinary adventure, we understand that.
Shortly before the sighting, he was walking home, and walking on a small path. It was dark, but there was still some visibility. While walking, he heard a sound like a hammer hitting an anvil, then a few seconds later, after traveling 20-25 meters, a sound of voices.
He couldn't see any light or glow in the area, but since the site wasn't completely isolated, he first thought it was coming from a house where a handyman was working. He continued on his way as if nothing had happened. A landslide having occurred on the path, he then took a path to continue on his way that crossed a private property which he entered through a wooden gate, demolished, which he had no trouble opening. He was on a terrace, common in the south, bordered by a dry stone wall, on which they cultivate olive trees, orange trees and other species. Walking a few meters, he took a stone staircase of a few steps to continue his journey on the lower terrace. It was then that the strange and harrowing adventure of Mr. B... began.
No sooner had he descended the stairs than he came across a sight he was far from expecting, and stopped, amazed.
In front of him, barely ten meters away, a luminous and shiny object was placed on the ground. It was a disc-shaped machine, more rounded on the top, and carrying a small dome at its upper part. The left part was shining like gold. It had a diameter which he estimated at 5 m, a thickness in its center of approximately 1 m 20 and it stood at approximately one meter from the ground. Mr. B... is unable to remember whether or not the machine was placed on feet.
To the left of the object, stood a being, about 1.60 m, very thin and of harmonious proportions. He left Mr. B... an impression of a single piece (affirmed detail, well specified) very fitted, which included the head. It shone with a white light "like a crushed firefly" Mr. B... would say, which suggests that it was rather phosphorescent. The being had his back to the witness, but when the latter arrived he turned his head and had a movement of surprise when he saw him. In front of the face, there was a kind of veil which started from the forehead, cut cleanly at the height of the chin, of the same color as the jumpsuit. The veil had a bulge at the height of the nose.
The being then said a few words, addressing a second character that Mr. B... had not yet discovered. The words exchanged were not understood by the witness, but he told me that it was in very clear language.
This number 2 was, in all likelihood, under the object. He appeared to be crouching, perhaps busy making repairs, and at the call of No. 1 took a step or two backwards, remaining bent, before turning abruptly and getting up.
He was smaller than the first, his proportions less harmonious, his head a little bigger. He was dressed the same way and wore the same veil that hid his face. He had something on his stomach. Turning around, he brought both hands to this object that looked like a flashlight, and took a step forward. Immediately, from this object held with both hands came a beam of white light, and Mr. B.. felt "paralyzed" more and more strongly, at the same time as the light emitted grew until it became a square 20 cm on a side. The light was white like a flashlight.
The paralyzed witness could no longer move, but he continued to see and hear, but with some difficulty. He also had difficulty breathing. Number 2 said something very short to number 1, and approached the witness, as if to get a precise idea of the effect of the light beam, and no doubt of the paralyzing radiation accompanying it.
The two beings exchanged a few words, but no aggressiveness emanated from No. 1. No. 2 seemed more relaxed after seeing Mr. B.'s condition. He approached then up to 60 centimeters from the head of the witness, and the top of his head arrived at the height of the neck of the witness, which provides a fairly precise height of 1.45 / 46 m.
He then lifted his veil with his left hand, raising his head towards the witness, so that, it seems, the latter could clearly see his face. He grimaced horribly, his lips disjointed baring all his teeth, and he gestured with his right arm, as if to invite him to take a good look at his face.
I don't know if this detail is important, but the memory of this scene remained faithfully etched in the memory of the witness, who felt how pathetic, and perhaps desperate, it was. Number 2 let go of her veil, which fell over her face, and with both arms, and on two different occasions, he made eloquent gestures, as if inciting the witness to follow him. The second time around, it even seemed to Mr. B... that the invitation was more urgent, with some nervousness, but there was no kidnapping attempt. At this point No. 1, who appeared to be the leader, intervened, and No. 2 calmed down instantly.
The two beings then turned around and walked quietly towards the craft in which they climbed, on top, not without difficulty, helping each other, one pushing the other, the first climbing pulling the other. Mr. B... saw them disappear into the craft without being able to specify where, he did not notice any opening although he heard a dull sound of metal closing. Shortly after, he heard another sound, light, like running his hand over corrugated iron, then he didn't remember anything, having lost consciousness.
Description of the face of being no. 2.
Very high and very wide forehead. High cheekbones. Chin pointed and quite strong. Very fine nose and eagle beak. Very thin lips. White and regular teeth. Scattered beard on the right cheekbone. Dark skin color (Mediterranean type).
The witness did not see any hair that was hidden by the overalls that encompassed the head, as I said.
The eyes were slightly further apart than on a normal face, presumably with eyelids. The witness does not remember having seen eyelashes and eyebrows: which does not mean that they were absent. The shape didn't differ much from normal eyes, maybe a slight Asian type. They were bigger and rounder.
At first, it seemed to the witness that the character had no eyes, simply holes in the orbits, then he saw in the left orbit a white globe, without iris or pupil. Was that what the being wanted to show? We will never know. It was horrible to watch, and Mr. B..., 18 years later, never talks about it without intense emotion. From this left eye flowed a large tear of a thick and brown liquid which descended to the corner of the lips.
When Mr. B... regained his senses, the craft was no longer in front of him, but about ten meters above the ground, 50-70 meters away. It was spinning counter-clockwise, with a slight fan noise. The shape was quite different from the one he had noted on the ground. The craft was on its edge and the witness kept precise memories of details: see sketch of the section.
There were 3 or 4 corrugations on the periphery, resembling stiffeners. A first bulge at mid-radius, and a second in the center (presumably the passenger compartment). Lighted portholes were on one of the two bulges, perhaps on both, the memory is vague. Mr. B... had the impression that the central cockpit was not rotating at the same time as the craft. Moreover, it seemed to him that someone was watching him from behind a porthole, and the observer had no veil over his face.
At this moment, the object was no longer shining, it was gray, but one could clearly distinguish the contours. There reigned at ground level an indefinable odor which quickly disappeared. Then there was a violent flash that lit up the entire landscape, like a firework rocket, as the craft turned golden like gold, surrounded by an orange halo. It began to spiral upward immediately, reaching a height of 5 or 600 meters in 4 or 5 seconds. It stopped, remained motionless for a few seconds, then it left horizontally, at first very slowly, emitting small sparks, then as it accelerated, the sparks became more numerous, it finally reached a high speed and a tail of sparks followed it.
(continued from page 9)
Mr. B... went home somewhat moved, he told his wife that he had just seen something extraordinary but without giving her any details. The next day he returned by the same route, not without some apprehension, but he did not dare to go to the actual landing site, noting however that the grass was trodden and lying at this precise place. He never divulged all these details, the first reactions of his friends on a vague approach to his adventure had sufficiently enlightened him on what awaited him if he had been more precise.
This repressed secret stressed him, and he felt the need to share his adventure with someone else. I thank him for the trust he has placed in us, and assure him that his anonymity will be respected.
Thank you Mr Chasseigne.

J. Chasseigne
This case was reported in Lumieres dans la Nuit, No. 126 (June/July 1973). Translation from the French by Gordon Creighton.
THIS sighting took place in the spring of 1954. The exact date is not known, but the eyewitness, Monsieur B-, is able to give the precise time - 2.4 a.m. The site was near a small town on the Cote d'Azur, in one of the little valleys which open out to the Mediterranean Sea.
I am satisfied as to the total sincerity and honesty of the eyewitness, who however insists upon anonymity - which is not surprising in view of the extraordinary nature of his experience.
He was returning home on foot along a small path.
Athough it was night time, there was some degree of visibility. Suddenly he heard a noise, like the sound of a hammer striking an anvil. And a few seconds later, when he had gone a further distance of 20-25 metres, he heard a voice.
He could see no lights anywhere around, but the area was by no means an entirely isolated one, so at first he assumed that the sounds had come from the house nearby. He continued on his way till he encountered a fall of earth blocking the path. Here he stepped aside to carry on homewards along another route leading across a piece of private property which he entered through an old wooden gate. He now found himself on a terrace bordered by a dry stone wall. This is a terrace of the type frequently encountered in the South of France and used for the cultivation of olives, orange trees and so on. Proceeding a few metres he went down a short flight of stone steps, in order to carry on his journey along the terrace below.
And here he had his strange and agonizing adventure.
For, scarcely was he down the flight of steps, when he beheld a stupefying sight. Before him, scarcely l0 metres from him, a brilliant, luminous object was standing on the ground. It was a disc· shaped craft, its upper part more curved, and with small dome set in its centre.
The left-hand side of the craft was shining like gold. He estimates its diameter to have been about 5 metres and the depth of it at the centre about 1.20 metres. It was suspended at a height of about one metre above the ground, but he cannot now recall whether or not it was standing on legs.
To the left of the object stood a being, about 1.6 m. in height, and of very slim and harmonious proportions. This being gave Monsieur B- a feeling of perfect harmony, indeed of sympathy. The being was wearing a very tightly-fitting one-piece suit which included the head. (Monsieur B- will swear to these details of the suit, on which he is very clear.) The suit shone with a white glow- "like a crushed firefly," as Monsieur B- described it - and this leads us to conclude that the suit was most probably phosphorescent.
The entity had his back to Monsieur B-, but turned round as he approached and made a movement of surprise when he caught sight of Monsieur B-. The entity had a sort of veil in front of his face. Starting from the forehead, it ended at the level of the chin, and it was of the same colour as the one piece suit. There was a bulge in the veil at that level where we would expect the nose to be.
The being pronounced a few words at this point to a second personage whom Monsieur B- had not noticed until then. The words exchanged were of course unintelligible to the witness, but he says that they seemed to be in a clearly and precisely articulated language.
This second being was smaller than the first, his proportions being less harmonious and his head rather bigger. He was clad in the same garb and had the same veil over his face. On his abdomen he was wearing something, and as he turned round he put both hands to this object, which Monsieur B thought resembled a pocket torch. He took a step forward and immediately a beam of white light shot out of this object and Monsieur B- found himself becoming progressively more severely paralyzed, while at the same time the light emitted from the object held by the entity grew until the funnel of the beam was square-shaped, 20cm. x 20cm. The light was as white as the light of a torch.
By now the paralyzed Monsieur B- was no longer capable of any movement, but he could still see and hear, though with a good deal of difficulty. He also felt difficulty in breathing. Entity No. 2 said something very brief to entity No. 1, and then came over to Monsieur 8- as though to ascertain the precise effect of the luminous beam upon him, and doubtless the degree of the accompanying paralysis.
The two entities exchanged a few further words, but No. 1 appeared to Monsieur B- to display no signs of aggressiveness, while No. 2, having seemingly checked up on Monsieur B-'s condition also seemed to be "more relaxed." For he now came closer, to a distance of only some 60 cm. or so from Monsieur B-'s head. The latter was now able to gauge that the top of entity No. 2's head came up to the level of his own neck, which gives us a pretty fair
indication of the entity's height, namely 1.45 or 1.46 metres.
Then entity No. 2 raised his veil, with his left hand, and raised his head towards Monsieur B-, seemingly purposely, so that the latter might have a clear view of his face. He was wearing a horrible grin, his parted lips showing all his teeth. And with his right hand he gestured as though inviting Monsieur B- to take a good look at his face.
I do not know whether this detail is important or not, but the memory of the scene has remained faithfully etched in every detail in the memory of the eyewitness, who felt something altogether pathetic, perhaps even despairing, in it.
Personage No. 2 now dropped his veil, which fell back over his face and then with both arms he twice made what seemed to be eloquent gestures as if urging the witness to follow him. At the second gesture, the invitation seemed to Monsieur B- to be even more pressing, with some degree of irritation. But no attempt was made to carry him off.
At that moment, entity No. 1, who seemed to be the leader, intervened, and No. 2 at once calmed down. The two beings then turned around and calmly walked back to their machine, and got up on to the top of it, not without some difficulty indeed, and helping each other, the one pulling and the other pushing.
Monsieur B- watched them vanish into the machine although he was unable to make out precisely where. He saw no opening on it, but he did hear a dull sound as of something metallic being closed. Shortly after that, he heard another soft noise, like the sound of a hand being pressed over a sheet of corrugated iron. After that he remembers nothing, for he lost consciousness.
Description of the face of entity No. 2
The forehead was very high and very wide. The cheekbones also were high. The chin was pointed and quite pronounced. The nose was very thin and of the "eagle's beak" type. The lips were very thin. The teeth white and regular. Wispy beard on the right cheekbone. The skin was dark coloured {Mediterranean type).
The witness did not see the entity's hair, if any, as this was concealed by the one-piece suit which, as already mentioned, covered the head.
The eyes were set slightly further apart than on a normal human face, and seemingly had eyelids. The witness recalls however seeing no eyelashes or eyebrows, though, of course, this is not to say that they were absent. The shape of the eyes was not very different from that of normal eyes, though perhaps of slightly "Asiatic" type. They were larger and more globular than our eyes.
At first glance it had seemed to the witness that the personage possessed no eyes, but simply holes in the eyesockets. Then he noticed a white globe in the eyesocket. This white globe had no iris and no pupil. Was this what the being had wanted to show? We shall never know.
It was a horrible sight to look at and Monsieur B-, eighteen years Later, still never speaks of it without intense emotion. From that left eye of the entity was rolling a large tear of a thick, brown liquid, which ran down as far as the corner of the lips.
* * * * *
When Monsieur B- had come to his senses again, the machine was no longer right there in front of him, but was now at a height of some 10 metres from the ground, and about 50-70 metres distant from him. It was spinning anti-clockwise, making a faint noise like the sound of a fan. The shape of the craft was moreover now totally different from what he had observed when it was on the ground. The machine was now edge-on to him, and he recalls its precise detail.
On its upper outer periphery the machine had three or four ripples resembling stiffeners. At half the radius there was the smaller bulge, and then in the centre on top came the second and larger bulge, which was apparently the cabin. The two illuminated portholes were on one of the two bulges, or maybe on both. The witness's memory is vague on this point. Monsieur B- had the impression that the central cabin was not rotating at the same rate as the machine itself. Moreover, it seemed to him that someone was watching him from behind one of the portholes, and the person doing the watching had no veil over his face.
By this time the craft was no longer shining; it was grey, but still very clearly outlined. At ground-level an indefinable smell remained, which however speedily vanished. Then came a powerful flash which lit up the whole countryside around like a rocket in a firework display, and the machine took on a gilded hue, indeed just as though made of gold, and with an orange halo around it. At once it started to rise spirally, reaching a height which he estimated at 500 or 600 metres in just four or five seconds. Then it halted again, remained stationary for a few seconds, and finally moved off horizontally, slowly at first, emitting a few sparks. Then, as it accelerated, the sparks increased. As it reached a very high speed and vanished it left a long trail of sparks behind it.
Monsieur B- arrived home pretty shaken. He told his wife he had seen something extraordinary, but gave her no details. Next day, he went back over the same route, not without some apprehension, and he did not dare to go right to the actual site of the landing, .though he was able to see for himself· that the greensward there was all trampled and flattened.
He has never given this information to anybody before. For, whenever in the course of conversation with friends he had touched, be it ever so vaguely upon the periphery of his experience, their prompt and first reactions had sufficed to show him precisely what sort of reception awaited him were he to proceed any further and give details.
This repressed secret has weighed heavily upon him over the years, and he has felt great need to share his experience with someone else. I thank him for the trust he has placed in us and I give him our assurance that his anonymity shall be respected.

[Ref. ynd1] YVES NAUD:
Yves Naud indicates that at an unspecified date of the Spring of 1954, a witness, "M.B." whom he keeps the anonymity returned home, by night, walking, close to a city of the Riviera, when he heard a noise similar to that of a hammer striking an anvil, followed-up one minute later of a shout of a voice.
He thought that these noises came from a very close house, and continued his walk by a private way which was familiar to him and which led to a terrace then to steps leading to a second terrace.
He had hardly descended the few steps that he stopped in awe, because ten meters in front of him, posed on the ground, was a luminous discoidal apparatus with a small dome at its top part, of a diameter of 5 meters and a thickness of 1.20 meter, whose witness seems to remember that it stood approximately on meter above the ground, and which left side appeared to shine like gold.
On left of the object, he saw a very thin creature of harmonious proportions of 1.60 meters approximately, who carried a very tight outfit including the head and shining of a white gleam "like a crushed firefly."
On arrival of the witness, this "little being" turned his head and looked in surprise. He has some sort of veil staring on the forehead, cut short at the chin and reinflated at the level of the nose, which hid all its face.
The being suddenly uttered guttural sounds seemingly to someone else, and the witness then noticed a second being squatted under the apparatus, undoubtedly busy with some repair. At the call of the other, this "repairer" moved back one or two steps while remaining curved, then turned while standing up.
It was small that the first, with a larger head and less harmonious proportions, but wearing same clothing and with a similar veil which hid the face to him.
While turning around, he had touched an object which he carried on the belly and the witness at once saw a beam of white light spouting out "which paralyses him literally." He was frozen in terror, unable to run away, and saw his two "attackers" approaching while exchanging some words. When they were not any more that within ten centimeters of him, the smallest raised his veil with the left hand, which resulted in an unforgettable vision of an awful face, with disjoined lips discovering all the teeth.
"The horrid creature" made a gesture of its right arm, as inviting his victim to look at him, his appearance described 18 years by the witness with the precision of an identification sheet: a very high and very broad face, high cheekbones, a pointed and rather strong chin, a very fine nose like an eagle's beak, very thin lips, white and regular teeth, a beard strewn on the right cheek, a skin of dark color of Mediterranean type.
The witness had initially taken the eyes for simple holes in orbits, but he then saw that they had neither iris nor pupil but were simply an enormous white sphere, with, as horrible detail, a thick and brownish liquid running down from the left eye, down to the edge of the lips.
The creature then let fall down its veil and in an intense state of excitation, was agitated feverishly like if inviting the witness to go up in the craft, but at this time the first character, who appeared to be the chief, intervened and calmed "his turbulent companion."
Both then moved slowly towards their apparatus, sent inside with difficulty by helping each other, and the witness who could not notice any opening saw them disappearing and perceived a deaf noise of metal closing, followed of a lighter sound like that of a hand than one passes on a metal sheet. He then lost consciousness.
When he came back to his sense, the apparatus was ten meters above the ground and to approximately 50 to 70 meters distant, rotating while producing a light noise of ventilator and its shape seemed different from that it had on the ground. In spite of the distance, the witness could see two bulges, the first at the half of the disc's ratio and the second in the center, carrying enlightened port-holes.
At this time, the object did not shine any more, its contours were still distinct, and it left for a short moment an indefinable odor above ground-level. There was then a violent flash which illuminated all the landscape and the apparatus, which took a gilded color, was surrounded by an orange halation which lit the vegetation.
The apparatus then suddenly rose in spiraling motion, reaching a height of 500 or 600 meters in a few seconds, then stopped, remained motionless one moment, set out again horizontally while emitting small sparks which increased as its speed increased.
The witness came back on the spot the next day to look for evidence of his incredible adventure and noted that the grass was pressed at the very place where the machine had been posed, but as this proof was meager, he remained convinced that nobody would believe him.
[Ref. hjn1:] HENRI JULIEN:
The author indicates that at 2:40, a peasant of Provence was one day of spring 1954 face to face with two flying saucer pilots, who were normal men, quiet, without hostility, who were repairing or checking their craft in the clear night of the French Riviera.
One of them was ugly, but "this happens with our fighter pilots, these modern demigods. The other pilot, according to the investigator Mr. Chasseigne, a French ufologist of reputation, had a 'very high and very broad face, high cheekbones, a pointed chin and a rather extremely fine nose, in eagle's beak, thin lips, white and regular teeth, the skin of dark color, normal eyes, perhaps of slightly asian type'."
The author wonders with his usual humor "How many girls with a heart in love will be seduced by the exotic charm of our evening visitors? Who can tell?"

Spring. 1954 0240 Côte d'Azur Type B
Monsieur B. was walking home when he came upon a brightly luminous object standing on or hovering over the ground, only 10 meters away: a discoidal craft 5 m in diameter, the upper part more curved, and with a small dome. Beside it stood a slender man 1.6 m (5'2") tall, wearing a luminous tight-fitting one-piece suit including the head. When he turned toward M. B. he was seen to have a veil in front of his face. He spoke some words to a second being, shorter (4’9") and with a larger head, who wore similar garb. On his abdomen this 2nd entity wore a sort of flashlight, from which a beam of white light was turned on B., paralyzing him. Then this 2nd entity raised his veil, revealing a grin on his face that exposed all his teeth. His forehead was high, the chin & nose pronounced, the lips very thin, and the complexion dark. The eyes were white, showing no iris or pupil, and exuded a large brown tear. The being made beckoning gestures; then both walked to the craft, got onto it, and vanished into it (B. saw no door.) B. heard a metallic noise, then lost consciousness. When he came to himself, the machine was 10 m above the ground, 60-70 m away, and was spinning, making a faint noise. Its shape now differed, showing 2 illuminated portholes on a bulge. There was an "indefinable" smell. After a bright flash of light, the object became gold-colored; it rose spirally, then moved off leaving a trail of sparks. The next day B. found flattened greenery at the site.

These authors report that in spring 1954, at 10:00 p.m. or 2 after midnight, near Menton in the Alpes Maritimes, at the location "Le Beauriqueau", the witness which remained anonymous except to the investigators in Nice, returned at his place by walking. He was at this time at the location "Beauriqueau."
He first heard of all sorts of "hammer-like striking an anvil" noises. He resumed his walk, then heard the sound of a voice. He walked some more ten meters and discovered a luminous object then. He described it as of disc shape, more bent on the top and carrying a small dome at its higher part. The left part of the object was shining like gold. The diameter was estimated as five meters for a 1.20 meters thickness. The object was 1 meter above the ground.
Close to the object, a being of 1 m 60 approximately stood, of very slim and harmonious proportions. He was dressed of a combination in only one piece, very adjusted, including the head and of a phosphorescent white color. A second being was under the apparatus. As soon as they realized the witness' presence, they paralyzed him using a luminous ray. They approached the witness, then regained their apparatus, entering into it by the top. The witness lost consciousness.
When he recovered, the object was rising while rotating, with a light ventilator noise. An indefinable odor spread, and disappeared quickly. After a violent flash, the machine illuminated, rose quickly, hovered, then set out again horizontally, slowly, by emitting small sparks and disappeared.
The authors indicate that their sources are Lumières Dans La Nuit N.128 page 8, an interview of the witness at "CQFD" by Pierre Bellemarre on Europe 1 radio in February of 1976, and François Lagarde's book pp 133 à 137. They note that the time indicated in L.D.L.N is 2 in the morning whereas the witness indicated 10:00 p.m. at his radio interview.

The author indicates that in the Spring of 1954, on the Riviera, at 02:40 in the night, "M.B.", who asked for anonymity, discovered on the ground a lenticular apparatus close to which "were located two humanoids."
When one of the beings became aware of the presence of the witness, he had a movement of surprise and alerted his companion, who put his two hands at his "belt"; he had something on the belly that resembled a flashlight.
From this object held with two hands, at once, a beam of light left and the witness was instantaneously "paralyzed." The two beings regained their apparatus and the witness lost consciousness.

Towards 02:40 (or 22 hours?) the witness walks back home by a small path. He hears like a noise of hammer striking the anvil. 20 to 25 m further he hears a noise of voice. A crumbling having occurred on the path, he then took a way crossing a private property. He was on a terrace, surrounded of a dry stone wall on which one cultivates the olive-tree and the orange-tree. He descends some steps to continue his way on a lower terrace. There he came upon a fantastic scene. Ten meters in front of him a luminous and shining object is posed on the ground. It is of discoidal form, more bent on the top, carrying a small dome at its higher part. The left part was shining like gold. The diameter must have been 5 m for a thickness of 1,50 m. On the left stood a very thin being, 1,60m and harmonious proportions: it left to the witness the impression of only one part, very adjusted, including the head. It shone of a white gleam "like a crushed firefly". The being had his back directed at the witness. On his arrival, he looked back: to the witness' surprise there was a kind of veil which started from the face, cut short at clear at the level of the chin. There was a bulge at nose level. The being pronounced some words for a second character whom the witness had not discovered yet. The words were not understood by the witness. The second being was probably under the craft, it appeared squatted. At the call of the first he took one or two backwards steps while remaining squatted, before suddenly turning back while standing up. It was smaller than the first one and of less harmonious proportions. It was equipped in the same way and carried the same kind of veil. It had something on the belly resembling a flashlight. It put its hand there and at once with this object held in the two hands, a beam of white light came out. The witness felt at once paralyzed. He could not move any more but continued to see and hear. He had difficulties to breathe. The two beings still spoke between them, and the number 2 approached at 60 cm of the witness: it came up to the neck, that gives him a height of 1 approximately m45. He then lifted his veil with the left hand and looking up towards the witness, as for showing well to him: he made an horrible face, the disjoined lips discovering all the teeth. High and broad face, high cheekbones, pointed chin. Fine nose in eagle's beek, regular and white teeth, beard strewn on the right cheek, tanned skin. Eyes wide set, eyes slightly slanted, large and protruding. Initially the witness believed the orbits were empty: then he saw a white sphere, without iris nor pupil. From the left eye ran a large tear of a thick and brown liquid which went down to the lips corner: it was horrible to look at. He loses consciousness. When the witness was conscious again the craft had taken off, being at 60 or 70 m and rotating. (L.D.L.N. " Mystérieuses Soucoupes Volantes" - ALBATROS-ETAPES 1973 - p. 133 to 137- Mr. FIGUET/J.L. RUCHON: OVNI, le premier dossier... Lefeuvre 1979, p. 69, 70) (..) The being then released its veil which fell down on its face and, with its arms, twice, it made eloquent gestures, as if it encouraged the witness to follow (...) The witness saw them disappearing in the craft without being able to specify where, it did not notice any opening although he heard a deaf noise of metal closing. Then he lost consciousness... Monsieur B was walking home when he came upon a brightly luminous object standing on or hovering over the ground, only 10 meters away; a discoidal craft 5 meters in diameter, the upper part more curved, and with a small dome. Beside it stood a slender man 5"2' tall, wearing a luminous tight fitting one piece suit including the head. When he turned toward Mr. B he was seen to have a veil in front of his face. He spoke some words to a second being, shorter 4'9" and with a larger head, who wore a similar garb. On his abdomen this 2nd entity wore a sort of flashlight, from which a beam of white light was turned on B, paralyzing him. Then this 2nd entity raised his veil, revealing a grin on his face that exposed all his teeth. His forehead was high, the chin and nose pronounced, the lips very thin, and the complexion dark. The eyes were white, showing no iris or pupil, and exuded a large brown tear. The being made beckoning gestures; then both walked to the craft, got onto it, and vanished into it. B heard a metallic noise, then lost consciousness. When he came to himself, the machine was 10 meters above the ground, 50-70 meters away, and was spinning, making a faint noise. Its shape now differed, showing 2 illuminated portholes on a bulge. There was an "indefinable" smell. After a bright flash of light, the object became gold-colored; it rose in a spiral, the moved off leaving a trail of sparks. The next day B found flattened greenery at the site.

Spring 1954. 0240hrs
(COTE D’AZUR : FRANCE)
Mr B was walking home along a small path when he heard a sound like a hammer striking an anvil, and a few seconds later, when he gone a further 20-25m, he heard a voice. He first thought the sounds came from a nearby house and carried on his way, down a terrace on some private property. There, after he had only gone a few steps, he encountered no more than 10m away, a brilliantly luminous disc, the upper part of which was more curved, and with a small dome in the centre. The left hand side of the disc was shining like gold. This disc was about 5m in diameter, 1.2m thick and was suspended about 1m above the ground. To the left stood a slim, well-proportioned being, about 1.6km tall, wearing a tight fitting one piece suit, which shone with a white phosphorescent glow, and which covered its head. The being gave B a feeling of harmony and sympathy. As B approached, this being, which had had its back turned to him, turned round and gave a start of surprise. The being’s face was covered by a veil of the same material from the forehead to the chin. The first being then spoke a few words to a second one, which only now came to B’s attention. Though clad in the same kind of suit, this second being was smaller and less well proportioned, with a large head.
As this second being turned round it touched something like a pocket torch that it was wearing on its abdomen. As B took a step forward, a beam of white light came from this object, hitting and gradually paralyzing him. The beam grew until the funnel was 20cm by 20cm. B now had difficulty in hearing, seeing and breathing. The two beings continued to exchange a few words in their incomprehensible but articulate language, and the second one came up to within 60cm of B, who could now estimate its height as between 1.45-1.46m. It then lifted its veil to reveal a “horrible” toothy grin, a high, wide forehead, pointed chin, thin “eagles beak” nose, thin lips, a wispy beard on its right cheek and darkish skin. The eyes were set farther apart than normal and were larger and more globular than a human’s, and consisted of just a white globe with no pupil or iris, and from its left eye their rolled a thick brown tear. This figure then left its veil drop down and gestured to B to follow it, with impatient gesture, but was then calmed down by the larger being, and they walked back to the machine, which they re-entered with some difficulty. B was unable to see exactly how they entered, but heard two metallic sounds, after the second of which he passed out.
When he recovered his senses, the object was at 10m altitude, some 50-70m away, spinning anticlockwise and making a humming sound. On its upper outer periphery the machine had three or four ripples; there was a smaller bulge at half the radius and in the centre top, a second, larger, protuberance. There were two illuminated portholes on at least one of these bulges, through which he had the impression that an unveiled figure was observing him. The object had now lost its luminosity and appeared grey, and he noticed an indefinable smell. The machine then emitted a powerful flash that lit up the countryside and took on a golden hue with an orange halo, and spiraled up to 500-600m in a few seconds, remained stationary for a few seconds, then moved off, horizontally, slowly at first, emitting sparks, which increased as it accelerated. It vanished at high speed, leaving a long trail of sparks. B was very shaken by the experience. Next day he returned to the site and noticed trampled and flattened grass, but was too afraid to investigate.

[Ref. jgz1:] JULIEN GONZALEZ:
The author indicates that there was a close encounter of the third type near Gorbio or Menton in the Alpes-Maritimes in the spring of 1954.
Mr. Lorenzi was walking into his house by a small path when he suddenly heard "metallic" noises, and he thought that people were busy "tinkering". He then heard the sounds of voices.
At the turn of a small staircase, he came across a luminous craft 5 to 6 m in diameter posed on the ground, with a being about 1.60 meters high next to it, thin, harmonious, covered with a phosphorescent jumpsuit with, in front of the face, a veil with two holes for the eyes.
The humanoid made a movement of surprise when he saw the witness, then he spoke a few words in an unknown, guttural language.
The witness then saw under the craft a second figure busy at a mysterious task, and who straightened up quickly, looked at the witness and put his hands on his belly, with a rather heavy gesture, on a black box from which a ray of light sprang.
The witness was instantly paralyzed, and this paralysis increased as the intensity of the "solid" ray of light increased. He could no longer move but saw and heard.
The second character was smaller than the first, his proportions were less harmonious, his head bigger, his clothing identical to the first one. He said something very bried to the first one and approached the witness. They exchanged a few more words. The second seemed more relaxed after seeing the condition of the witness. He approached about 60 cm from his head and suddenly lifted his veil with his left hand, raising his head towards the witness, as if so that the latter could see his face perfectly.
The face has been described as follows: very high and very wide forehead, prominent cheekbones, pointed and fairly strong chin, very thin eagle-beaked nose, thin lips, white and regular teeth, sparse beard on the right cheekbone, fairly dark skin color. The eyes were set slightly further apart than on a normal face, and presumably had eyelids. Their shape didn't differ so much from normal eyes, but maybe a slight Asian type, bigger and rounder.
The witness had initially thought that the character had no eyes, just holes in the orbits, then he saw in the left orbit a white globe, without iris or pupil. From this left eye flowed a large tear of a thick and brown liquid, which descended to the corner of the lips. "Was that what the being wanted to show? We'll never know..."
The being let go of his veil which fell over his face and, with his arms on two different occasions, he made eloquent gestures as if to incite the witness to follow him.
At this point, the first character who seemed to be the leader intervened and the second "calmed down instantly." The two beings then turned around and walked quietly towards the craft on which they climbed, on top, not without difficulty while helping each other, one pushing the other, the first climbed pulling the other.
The witness saw them disappear into the craft without being able to specify where; he hadn't noticed any openings, although he had heard the thump of metal closing. He then lost consciousness.
The sources are indicated as Lumières dans la Nuit, n° 126, pages 8-10, investigation by M. Jean Chasseigne; Fernand Lagarde, Mysterious Flying Saucers, pages 133-137.
Julien Gonzalez notes:
It was only 18 years after the events that the witness told his adventure to ufologist Jean Chasseigne from the Lumières dans la Nuit group.
The time of the sighting is uncertain, the investigation published in Lumières dans la Nuit indicates 02:40 while the witness interviewed in February 1976 by P. Bellemarre (C.Q.F.D program) at the microphone of Europe n° 1 indicated 22:00.
A case with an almost identical scenario took place in Canada following an investigation carried out by the ufologist Jean Ferguson, published in 1978 in his book "The humanoids, the brains which control the flying saucers" pages 241-244:
At the beginning of the summer of 1950, between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in Vassan, a rural village in Abitibi, a short distance from Val-d'Or, L. B. was returning home after spending the evening playing playing cards with his neighbours. It was sunny, the weather was clear, he was walking on the dirt road when he saw a light near a recently abandoned barn. At the same time, he heard noises that he thought were metallic in origin. He wondered wether it was safe to approach, but after some hesitation he did. He then perfectly heard the outbursts of voices, which he took for those of people who would have settled in the barn to make "bagosse", an illicit alcohol. Perplexed, the witness stopped and thought to retrace his steps so as not to come across clandestine distillers. But out of curiosity he slipped cautiously behind a measuring rope of logs and heard the voices very well and saw an object that emitted light, a luminous and shiny disc 6 meters in diameter, hovering at one meter and a half above the ground. As he had never heard of flying saucers, he did not know it was one. Near this craft, he saw clearly in the rather strong light and which came out of the object, a being of 1.60 m, well made, thin and looking rather young, he thought.
He was no longer afraid, thinking that they were not manufacturers of adulterated alcohol, so he went around the wooden cord, advanced, and being closer, found out that the "man" had a phosphorescent one-piece garment and a mask over the face that appeared to be made of a piece of soft leather with holes for the eyes, starting in the middle of the forehead and ending just below the mouth. Realizing the presence of the witness, the character spoke in an unknown language, detaching his syllables with a slight hesitation between each of them. The witness thought it was German, even though he hadn't heard that language often.
Almost immediately, the witness perceived a movement under the luminous object: another figure appeared from under the craft. He took fright since there were two of them and he alone, and he watched their every move. The second was smaller than the first, dressed in the same way, with a larger head and covered with a sort of hood, he had broad shoulders, and had a sort of flashlight on his belt.
He pointed it at the witness with a clumsy gesture, and the witness immediately felt "mortified", the expression meaning that he could no longer move. He remained conscious and heard and ssaw everything that was going on. He said: "I thought if I tried to do one move it would take years to get it done. And then I was scared because I thought if I ever leaned before, I could fall and knock myself out on a stone or dislocate a limb since at the time, I weighed 225 pounds: I was considered a big man."
The two beings started talking, the first one in a higher tone as if he were the leader. The character with the flashlight approached very close to the witness, he touched his chin with his hand, probably to ascertain his paralysis. His fingers were deformed as if from arthritis. He was much smaller than the witness, his head barely came to his shoulders.
The being removed his hood and the witness shivered in disgust, seeing the face fifty centimeters away: the skin was wrinkled like that of an old apple and just as swarthy. He was distorted by a grin. One could clearly see all his teeth, smaller than those of an ordinary man and equal as if a single tooth had served as a model for all the others. "It was dreadful to see! And the eyes, the eyes! My good sir, it was something to see! when I think back on it, it still makes me shudder! For he showed me his eyes with his deformed fingers I always wondered why. He had eyeballs similar to ours, but around his eyes had creases in the skin like around a hen's eyes! And the blackheads in both eyes did not reach the same height, as if they were each looking their own way. I also saw that the face had not the slightest mobility: it was stuck there, that's all. I felt in the gesture of this being who showed me his face as a mark of friendship or trust even if it's crazy to say! He wanted to make me understand something, but what? Finally, he touched my arm and he handed his balaclava. He remained for a few minutes looking at my face. The other who had not intervened until then started talking very loudly again. The one in front me left me on the spot to go to the luminous machine. The two then climbed into the object by a short ladder; it seemed to me that they weren't very agile." He no longer remembers the rest, assures that he did not lose consciousness, but no longer had the strength to open his eyes despite his efforts. He stayed like that for long minutes, and little by little he was able to move again.
"He felt very fit, very lucid, as if this period of paralysis had increased all his faculties tenfold. When he was able to open his eyes, there was nothing in front of him, nor apparatus nor creatures. He sat down in the new grass and tried to think about what had just happened to him. The witness is now 65 years old (1976). Twenty-five years have passed since the incident and he could never forget."

Evaluation - Though the witness remembered all these details after c.20 years, he couldn't remember the date, suggestive of fantasy or false memory
Possible hoax.

The issue with this report is that it is anonymous and late; there is no possibility of checking and investigating, and no evidence were raised. Thus, the story is a matter of "believe it or not."
At best, it appears that the witness did not show a publicity-seeking behavior.
