The ufology magazine Lumières Dans la Nuit, in its "Contact Lecteurs" supplement for November 1975, indicates that in the department of the Doubs, in the area of Pontarlier, in the county of Mouthe, at La-Chapelle-au-Bois, at a non-specified date of spring 1954 at 06:50 p.m., Mrs. E. Panier was surprised by a sharp light and observed a kind of reddish sphere moving as quickly as a plane at low altitude.
The sphere was as large as the moon, moving without noise.
It passed almost at the vertical of the village, while moving towards Switzerland.
It was only six month later, because she saw with several other witnesses something similar, that she remembered of this observation, about which she had spoken to nobody, for fear of mocking remarks.
It is indicated that the source is an investigation by ufologist Jean Tyrode.

[Ref. lcn1:] LUC CHASTAN:
Luc Chastan indicates that in the Doubs in "La Chapelle des bois" in 1954 at 18:50 hours, "During spring a woman is surprised by a sharp light and observes a kind of reddish sphere moving as fast as a plane at low altitude. The object is as large as the moon, passes at the vertical of the village and moves towards Switzerland."
The source is noted as "Lumières dans la Nuit".
Possible meteor.
[ldl1] calls the place "La Chapelle au Bois" but the Doubs community in the Val de Mouthe is actually "Chapelle-des-Bois" - Picture below.
