Ufologist Jean Tyrode reported in the July 1972 issue of the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit about an observation in the Jura, St-Claude, Moirans-en-Montagne, in the 1950s, around 11 p.m. in Meussia, by a Mrs. Prost. On her way back to the center of the village, she saw on her right, very low, to the east of the old washhouse, two globes or disks of a pretty blue color, "like that of electric welding", she said.
The largest of the balls might have had a diameter of 1/6th of that of the moon, the other was smaller. They rushed to the ground.
The duration of the observation was very short. Mrs. Prost was very impressed, she was convinced that these balls had fallen very close to her behind the laundry.
Jean Tyrode had reported a few months before in January 1972 in the same magazine a different observation in the same region by a Mr. Paul Prost.
[Ref. jte1:] JEAN TYRODE - "LUMIERES DANS LA NUIT" UFOLOGY MAGAZINE:
Jean Tyrode indicates in this magazine that in the Jura, in St-Claude, Moirans-en-Montagne, in the 1950's, at about 11 p.m. in Meussia, Mrs. Prost, returning home, crossing the center of the village, saw on her right, very low, in the east of the old launderette, two spheres or discs of a pretty blue, "like that of electric welding", she said.
The largest of the balls could have a diameter the 1/6th of that of the moon, the other was smaller. They rushed towards the ground.
The duration of the observation was very short, the witness was very impressed, she was convinced that that these balls had fallen very close to her, behind the launderette.
The magazine indicates this comes from an investigation by Jean Tyrode.

Meussia (the Jura), between 1954 and 1956, at about 10:30. Reference: L.D.N. of January 1972. A farmer of Meussia, Mr. Paul Prost, drive on his motorbike on the Departmental Road 83 in direction of the old bridge of Pyle. When leaving a road turn, and rather far in front of him, Mr. Prost sees "a sort of cloud" of gray-aluminum color. While approaching, he realizes that it is actually an object, of elliptic shape, with elongated ends, of a length from 3 to 4 meters, and high of 1 meter 50. lower part of the machine is more punt. Whereas Mr. Prost continues to approach, the machine raised and moved away "gently", flying over a wood at low altitude. Then it took the direction of the valley of the Ain.

The mystery of the famous ufos in the Jura
In his book "Les Mystères du Jura" published by De Borée publishers in the end of 2009, Alain Lequien, with an historian's approach, listed the observations of unidentified flying objects (ufos) in the department of the Jura. There was the red ball of fire of Poligny, [...] the close encounter of the third kind of Prémanon, the cigar of the schoolboys of Les Rousses, the multicoloured oscillating object of Dole, [...] the white and luminous phenomenon of Meussia, [...]
[Note: I only noted the 1954 cases mentions from the article.]
It is quite possible that Mrs. Prost had seen the fall of a meteor splitting in two parts. The description is consistent with such an explanation, as well as the "very brief" duration.
A few months before, Tyrode had published a summary of his investigation about an observation of one Paul Prost of Meussia; I suspect that Mrs. Prost was Paul Prost's wife and that Tyrode had heard of Mrs. Prost's observation on hearing Mr. Prost's.
Finally, it goes without saying that this observation is not necessarily of 1954; it is said to have occurred "in the 1950s", so 1954 is simply a possible year for this observation.
