A catalog of observations in the Allier department in the Ouranos ufology magazine, New Series No. 7 of the 2nd quarter of 1976, noted this observation is said to have been printed in the regional newspaper Centre-Matin, for October 19, 1954:
On October 17, 1954, or around this date, at Desertines, in the Allier, André Dagois, residing at 29, rue Arbraise Croiset, saw, passing from east to west, an elongated shape lit up at the front and leaving a luminous trail behind. "The craft" was fast and silent.

10/17/1954 Désertines (9 hour 30)
Mr. André Dagois residing at 29, rue Arbraise Croiset saw pass from east to west an elongated shape lit up at the front and leaving a luminous trail behind. The craft was fast and quiet. This observation dated with cautious for Sunday 17 is to be compared with the two previous ones. Presumably, it would be the same apparatus as that observed at Montrobert and Domérat. Everything matches: description, movement, time. The same craft would have described a large arc over the Montluçon area. (Centre matin for 19/10/1954).
[Ref. ioi2:] UFOLOGY MAGAZINE "INFO-OVNI":
021 10/17/1954 09:30 p.m. Désertines - Witness Mr. Dagois
The witness observed the passage from E. to W. of an elongated form lit up in the front and leaving behind a lim. trail. (possible date error, obs. seeming to correspond to that of cases 017 and 018 (Centre-Matin for 10/19/54)
This is an obvious description of a meteor.
