In his 1997 book on the French wave of 1954, Jean Sider indicated that the newspaper Sud-Ouest for October 20, 1954, reported that in the night from October 16 to 17, 1954, near Condom in the Gers, credible people saw a fireball that paralyzed a young man.
Jean Sider quoted the newspaper like this:
"Within 800 meters of Condom, trustworthy (but anonymous) people saw in the night of Saturday to Sunday a ball of fire which paralysed a young man. No trace were found at the place where the object touched ground."

The source is indicated to be my website: "Les OVNI vus de près by Gross Patrick ** http://ufologie.net" [This URL is the old URL of my home page.]
This could of course have been a meteor.
There is unfortunately not enough information to confirm or deny it, and the case seems to have never been the subject of any investigation or verification.
