Evreux, August 24. -- Mysterious craft were reportedly seen by several people in the sky over Vernon (Eure) during the night from Sunday to Monday.
The son of a local shopkeeper claims to have distinctly seen, around 1 a.m., an elongated red object resembling a large cigar hovering over the Seine. According to him, the object remained stationary at a relatively low altitude. The silence was absolute.
From this strange craft, a flying saucer detached, which the witness described in detail: "It had the shape of an oval disc, dark in color, topped with a red dome with a very bright halo surrounded by flames."
The flying saucer detached from the cigar, dropped vertically, then seemed to attempt horizontal flight over the bridge. It turned, ascended, and suddenly disappeared.
It was immediately replaced by another. This curious carousel lasted for forty-five minutes. These observations were confirmed by several people, including a chemical engineer from the army's ballistic and atomic research laboratory, who was traveling along Route Nationale 182 at the same time. The engineer observed the mysterious glowing craft and, along with his companion, concluded that they could only be flying saucers.
