In England, a group of telepathy enthusiasts gathered in an attempt to make contact with flying saucers and the inhabitants of Venus.
The flying saucers did not appear, but a Venusian reportedly communicated through a medium, saying that "Venusians will only come down to Earth when they are sure they will be welcomed by humans."
"Some of you," said the distant speaker, "would be frightened if we came down to Earth. However, we would like to help you because we fear the harm you are going to cause yourselves with your atomic research."
The absence of flying saucers disappointed the group members, but one of them offered this explanation: "Some people brought their dogs; how can our thoughts cross space with all that barking?"
