The article below was published in the daily newspaper Liberté, Béthune issue, Nord, France, page 4, on October 20, 1954.
A resident of Vendin-lez-Béthune, Mr. Léon Decourcelle, 53-year-old, rue de la Marne, declares that on leaving at home, the day before last night, he saw in the sky, near Bethune, 100 meters high, a blue-red disc moving towards the southwest and giving off a bright glow that lasted a few seconds.
At the same time, but in Beuvry (!), three people, Mr. Julien Vanarien, living in the hamlet of Gone, and his friends, Julien Vannier and Jules Delamare, saw the same object. The gendarmes of Béthune collected the testimonies.
Beuvry is now famous for its hot air balloons. Perhaps one of these hot air balloons has returned home after a journey through France...
