The village of Walscheid, in Moselle, was invaded by Martians! It was the children who shouted the terrible news on Monday to parishioners leaving church. Martians indeed! They had stormed a house, and there was more than one! What a commotion! The women were sheltered, the men armed themselves, and then organized militarily to surround the enemy stronghold. And indeed, when they approached (with infinite caution) the suspicious villa, they saw, by the light of gas lamps, the tall figures of beings whose morphology in no way resembled anything living on our ordinary planet. The usual three warnings were given... and, in the face of silence, the signal for the assault was given.
It was then that the owner of the house, abruptly awakened from a saucer-free sleep, appeared at his window, very displeased:
- What do you have against my chrysanthemums! I wrapped those on the terrace to protect them from the frost.
It is said that the imaginative children were somewhat reprimanded.
Two residents of Saint-Cirgues (Haute-Loire) saw in the sky, at a very high altitude, two luminous spheres that seemed to be connected by a rod. The object remained motionless for a quarter of an hour, then disappeared.
Livorno, October 19. -- Bruno Senesi, 34, was admitted last night to the hospital in Libourne. He had dived under a bed, shouting that Martians had just descended from a flying saucer and were chasing him.
