HOAX OR TRUTH?

Four Mexican aviators claim to have pursued a "flying saucer"

Mexico, March 17.

"Flying saucers" are indeed flying devices, probably remote-controlled and capable of dizzying horizontal and vertical speeds. These are the claims of four pilots and inspectors from Mexican civil aviation, who yesterday, for the first time, managed to pursue and approach one of these objects when it was spotted near Mexico City.

The pilots were on standby yesterday at the airport in the Mexican capital. Their equipment included photographic and telephone devices. One of the strange "objects" was sighted at dusk in the sky over Mexico, and they took off in pursuit.

The pilots stated that while they were at an altitude of about 6,500 meters (21,300 feet), they were able to observe the presence of a "saucer" which, they estimated, was flying at approximately 10,000 meters (32,800 feet) in altitude. According to them, the craft had a diameter of about 30 meters (98 feet). It was made of an opaque material and had a kind of exhaust pipe at its lower part, from which sparks and flames were emitted.

The same pilots added that when the "saucer" detected the approach of their plane, the craft began to slowly rotate in concentric circles, as if allowing them to follow it. Then, suddenly, it increased its rotational speed, ejecting flames and sparks, and finally, it abruptly accelerated at a dizzying speed, disappearing quickly into the clouds.

The pilots, who are experienced professionals accustomed to aerial observations and whose credibility does not seem in doubt, stated upon their return that they did not believe the "saucers" were directly piloted by human beings. The acceleration was so extreme that no living organism could withstand such speeds. However, they were almost certain that the craft was remotely controlled and of terrestrial origin, operated by people who were fully knowledgeable about the various aspects of aerial navigation, particularly the reactions and capabilities of Mexican aviation.
