Valenciennes, September 12. -- A resident of Carouble [sic], near Valenciennes, Mr. Marius Dewilve [sic], 34 years old, witnessed a startling scene on Friday night around 10 p.m. Awakened by his dogâs barking, he saw âa dark, oval mass about six meters longâ on the railway tracks near his home. Moments later, he observed âtwo men, each less than a meter tall, with short, shining heads that looked like glass globes.â
A few seconds later, the two strange beings entered the craft, on which a square of intense light had appeared. The witness then closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, everything had vanished.
The air police, who visited the site yesterday, found no trace of the incident. Investigators are puzzled as to why these Martiansâor perhaps Venusiansâwho seem to visit us so frequently, would have chosen to land so recklessly on a railway line.
