Detroit, Michigan, Nov. 10. -- Scores of telephone calls flooded police stations and Detroit newspapers about 8:30 p.m. to report a glowing, slow-moving object floating overhead in the direction of Canada. It glowed first white, then orange, then red until it disappeared from view.
Radar screens at Willow Run failed to pick it up but it was there all right. Patrolman Louis Kozma, an Ecorse policeman and former Navy flier, said the light appeared to be coming from an object about six feet long and two to three feet wide. When he first spotted it, he said it looked like a white-hot bar of steel that has just come out of a blast furnace. It gradually changed to orange and then changed again to red.
Patrolman Kermit Ziegler of Allen Park, another former Navy pilot, said, "If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t have believed it."
The Ecorse police said the light disappeared briefly at about 8:45 p.m. when a plane flew near it, though at a lower altitude, then reappeared after the plane was gone.
