ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

EXIF data of these two images show the time of shooting. The device is a SAMSUNG GT-N7000, the exposure time is 1/20 seconds, the settings are on automatic mode.

The context is: "jacksad" published this in response to a web testimony on a sighting in Sentheim on April 15 or 17, 2012.

It is not known if the intention of "jacksad" was to show that he also saw what he thinks is a "UFO", or if his intention was to show his photos for the other witness to assure similarity and then tell to the other witness: "it was the moon." So this case is perhaps not to be considered to be a UFO sighting report.

What the pictures show is a "red moon". Low on the horizon, the moon occasionally takes such hue.

It is true that the bottom does not look like the usual Moon crescent; this occurs when clouds hide a part of the moon.

I checked the position of the moon that day at that hour at Scherwiller:

It was actually visible in the sky, at an azimuth of 112° and a low elevation of 10°46'.

Its phase was 0.96274, ie a full moon, as seen on images.

Evaluation:

Red moon.
