ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case between Duntzenheim and Ingenheim, on July 14, 2012:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2012-07-14-DUNTZENHEIM-1

Summary:

On July 15, 2012, someone published on Youtube a video titled "Ufo night of July 14 to 15, 2012, at about 00:15 a.m."

The comment says: "Between Duntzenheim and Ingenheim, about 5 or 6 luminous orange dots, which moved slowly forming a figure Big Dipper style."

The 38 seconds shaky video taken from a car in motion just shows some bright spec in the sky.

On the web forum of SPICA, an Alsatian association of ufology, there was a message saying that the person and his/her mate, both Alsatians, had seen and filmed in poor quality about six strange orange balls in the sky; which moved without noise, in the same direction towards the east. The witness adds that these balls were forming "a figute like the pan of the Big Dipper."

Discussion:

Map.

The video hardly helps, but the report is typical of reports of Chinese lanterns mistaken for UFOs.

Moreover, this is on National Day, among villages where Chinese lanterns are usually launched in celebration of the 14th July.

Evaluation:

Probable Chinese lanterns.
