Reports:

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

French ufologist and author Jean Sider learned about this case in an article from the newspaper Le Comtois, of Besancon, for October 7, 1954 on page 2. He notes that the place is probably rather Saint-Loup-on-Semousse, close to Luxeuil, than Saint-Loup-lès-Gray, close to Gray, and he provides as such the content of the article of the newspaper:

Jean-Pierre Mangel, 9 years old, saw an odd machine in the dark sky, whereas he was returning from Mr. Mauvais's grocery where he had bought a candle to overcome the current power failure which had just affected Saint-Loup.

The grocer also saw a luminous ovoid shape in the sky of the village, which very quickly moved from the North-East to the south-west, appearing to go down as if the thing wanted to land.

J.P. Mangel also saw the machine going down in the meadow planted with poplars located between the avenue of Conflans and the factories "les Usines Réunies". The apparatus went up slightly then went down again.

The child was so frightened that he ran away, and somebody had to bring him back to his parents' who lived opposite the Weil furniture factory.

Explanations:

The September 29, 1954, meteor, about 08:30 p.m.

Jean Sider is right at locating the case at Saint-Loup-sur-Semousse, close to Luxeuil, rather than Saint-Loup-lès-Gray, since the factories "les Usines Réunies", a wood and furniture company, are indeed there.
