The regional newspaper Le Berry Républicain for October 4, 1954, reported a sighting, wondering whether they were "flying saucers" or not.
The newspaper reported that Marcel Cantin, a resident of Etrechy and employed by Mr. Triballat Paul in Les Ormes, returning from work "Wednesday evening" - that is, September 29, 1954 - saw a luminous ball with a tail moving in the sky above Etrechy, heading towards the cemetery and Herry.
The newspaper added that on the same day and at the same time, this was also seen by Marcel Taillandier, a roadmender in Etrechy, who was very surprised.

ETRECHY
Mr. Cantin Marcel, residing in Etrechy and employed by Mr. Triballat Paul at Les Ormes, in the commune of Azy, was returning home from work on Wednesday evening when he suddenly saw a luminous ball with a tail moving through the sky above the small town of Etrechy, heading toward the cemetery and in the direction of Herry.
This phenomenon was also observed at the same time on the same day by Mr. Taillandier Marcel, a road worker in Etrechy, who was greatly surprised.
Flying saucers or not?
Is it an omen to see so many signs in the sky?
The future will tell us.

Here we have a description of a meteor.
And that day around 8 p.m. there were a good dozen other similar reports in the area, which did indeed describe a meteor.
