Summary:

On October 28, 1954, many newspapers reported a "close encounter of the third type" incident, which will also be echoed in the international press:

An inhabitant of La Vaureille, commune of Alleyrat, Aimé Bousard, - or Boussard - 47-year-old farmer, told first to the mayor, then the gendarmes, that having gone in the evening of October 26, 1954 to the town hall of Alleyrat to get a paper, he left at about 10:30 p.m. on a bicycle.

Around 10:45 p.m., he was at a place called "La Badière", when he suddenly saw someone on the roadside.

He stopped to see who he was, but still astride his bicycle. He thought it was a man, and when he bent down, he saw that man was getting up suddenly, pointing at him "two powerful lamps projecting a very intense light, of light blue color."

According to Mr. Bousard, the being also had a lamp emitting a green light on each side of the head, much weaker than the two previous lights. He was about 1.60 meters tall and was dressed like a diver. When the being got up, Bousard felt "a pressure that I cannot define but comparable to an extremely violent breath that projected me on the other side of the road."

He said he stayed about 10 minutes without being able to scream or call for help, while the two lamps were aimed at him. Then, the being crossed the road and disappeared "suddenly without me being able to see the direction he took. I was very afraid. By falling under the effects of lamps, I felt - and I still feel - pain in the leg and right hand."

Bousard swore that he had not been drunk, that it was not a hallucination, and that the being he met was not an inhabitant of the country.

The gendarmes of Aubusson, who recorded his statement, said that Mr. Bousard actually appeared to be suffering at the two indicated limbs and that he gave the impression of feeling a great deal of pain. His right hand was swollen and he had difficulty writing. The bike showed no signs of falling or collision.

On the spot indicated by Bousard, the earth was freshly stirred as by a circular friction of 0.70 meters in diameter, while no footstep marks were visible in the surrounding area.

The press reported that the inhabitants of Alleyrat commented on the affair, some firmly believed that Bousard had met an unknown being, perhaps a "Martian", while the vast majority of the people remained somewhat skeptical though Mr. Bousard had the reputation of being a sensible man.

In the 1970s, ufologist Jean Giraud investigated the case, and learned from a Gendarme who had taken the testimony of Mr. Bousard at the time, that the latter was known as an unpleasant braggart, and had been thrashed by young people. He then took advantage of the context and the many observations made at the time to invent this story to explain to his advantage the bruises he had.

But many later sources ignored the explanation.

Faits divers

AT THE SAUCERS' SHOP
From where does this being of exceptional capacity come from?

Guéret. -- Finally, the Creuse was visited by a flying saucer and a being with a magic capacity.

After Mrs Alice Paquet, of Saint-Pardoux-le-Neuf, who claims to have seen a mysterious and silent machine evolving above her, an inhabitant of Vaureille, commune of Alleyrat, Mr. Bousard, aged 47, specified the following facts with the mayor initially, then with the gendarmes:

"After having paid a visit to the town hall of Alleyrat in the evening, to get a paper there, he had left the borough towards 10:30 P.M. on bicycle. At approximately 10:45 P.M. he was at the location called "La Badière", when he suddenly saw somebody who was on the side of the road."

"I stopped, he said, to see what it was while remaining however seated on my bicycle. I had the impression that I dealt with a man: as I bent down, this one stood up suddenly and directed two powerful lamps at me who were projecting a very intense light, of light blue color. This being also had at each side of the head, a lamp emitting a green light, much weaker than the two preceding ones. Of a size of 1 m 60 approximately, he was dressed like a diver. As he stood up, I felt a pressure which I could not define but comparable with an extremely violent breath which projected me to the other side of the road."

"I remained approximately 10 minutes without being able to shout or being able to call for Help. During this time the two lamps which emitted a blue light were directed in my direction. Then the being crossed the road crossed and disappeared suddenly without it being possible for me to see the direction he took. I was very afraid. While falling under the effects of the lamps, I felt – and I still feel – pains in the leg and the right hand."

"I affirm that I was not drunk: that it is by no means an hallucination and that this was not an encounter with an inhabitant of the country."

The gendarmes who recorded this curious testimony said that Mr. Bousard indeed appears to suffer from the two stated members and that he gives the impression to undergo a rather strong discomfort. His right hand is swollen and he has difficulties to write. The bicycle does not bear any trace of fall or collision.

On the spot indicated by the farmer, the ground was freshly stirred up as by a circular friction of 0 m 70 of diameter. No footmark is visible in the surroundings.

As one well thinks, this extraordinary fact became the subject of all the comments of the inhabitants of Alleyrat. Some firmly believe in the arrival of an unknown being in this place, which they are not far from calling a "Martian." The large majority however remains somewhat skeptic although Mr. Bousard has the reputation of a sensible man.

Saucers, cigars, etc.

The mayor of Châteauneuf-du
Pape forbids overflight
of his commune
"by the saucers"

Mr. Lucien Jeune, mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, just made a bold decision, which was also approved by the prefect of Vaucluse and made enforceable on Wednesday.

The mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in fact, has the following decree posted:

"FIRST ART. -- The overflight, landing and take-off of aircraft, known as flying saucers or flying cigars of any nationality whatsoever, are prohibited on the territory of the municipality.

ART. 2. -- Any aircraft, known as a flying saucer or a flying cigar, which lands on the territory of the municipality will be immediately impounded.

ART. 3. -- The rural warden and the private warden are each responsible, as far as they are concerned, with the execution of this decree."

Let it be said in France and in the stratosphere!

Good luck to the rural warden!

A cultivator "blown away"
by a mysterious being

A farmer from the village of La Vaureille, Mr. Aimé Bousard, 47, told the Aubusson gendarmes about the "strange encounter" he made on Tuesday evening, returning from the village of Alleyrat (Creuse).

"At a place called "La Madière", he stated, I saw a shape moving on the side of the road. I stopped to observe the individual better. The latter, who was lowered, suddenly stood up, shining two powerful lamps at me, projecting a very dense clear blue light. He also had, on both sides of his head, a light green lamp, which emitted rays much weaker than the others. He appeared six feet tall, and at first I thought he was wearing a diving suit.

Suddenly, under the effect of a pressure comparable to a breath, I was thrown to the other side of the road, where I remained ten minutes without being able to scream or call for help. The light blue lamps remained pointed at me. They finally died out. The being crossed the road and suddenly disappeared. I felt and still feel pain in my legs and right hand.

At the place indicated by the farmer, the gendarmes noticed that the ground had been freshly stirred. The grass was torn up over an area of ??70 centimeters in diameter. No footstep trace was found.

Two motorists
see the take off
of a "cauldron"
as big as a five ton truck

A truck driver from Tarbes, Mr. Vincent Casamajou, who was heading the other morning, around 6 a.m., towards Angoulême, in the company of his wife, saw in his rearview mirror a strange white glow. Having parked his truck on the side of the road, he saw, as well as his wife, a craft which had just taken off from a meadow, less than 50 meters away. The craft, which had the shape of a huge cauldron, rose at a very high speed, at an angle of 45°, leaving a white trail behind.

Mr. Casamajou and his wife claimed that this cauldron was as big as a 5 t truck. and flew silently.

THE CELESTIAL MACHINES

Drunk saucer and candy pink cigar in the Italian sky

Rome, October 28.

THREE employees of the Modena prefecture of police made statements about the appearance of a strange "craft" in the sky of this city. They claimed that the craft, after having traveled several kilometers in zigzags, would have stopped just above the airfield by launching luminous rockets in all directions, after which it would have gone vertiginously towards the Apennines.

In Florence, hundreds of people who attended a training session of the local soccer team, as well as the players of this team, claimed that several "imprecise objects", of an absolute white crossed the sky in formation, moving from north to south. These "craft" included "cigars" and "discs."

Another machine, of cylindrical shape and of a very marked pink color, crossed, according to three witnesses, the sky of Verola at high speed, in direction of the northwest.

A PARALYZER
"MARTIAN"
IN THE CREUSE

Guéret, October 28.

A farmer from the village of La Vaureille, Mr. Aimé Bousard, 47 years old, told the gendarmes of Aubusson "the strange encounter" which he had on Tuesday evening when he came back from the village of Alleyrat (Creuse).

At a place called "La Madrière", he said, I saw a shape moving on the side of the road. I stopped to better observe the individual. The latter, who was lowered, suddenly stood up, pointing at me two powerful lamps projecting a very dense light blue light. He also had on each side of his head a light green lamp which emitted much weaker rays than the others. It appeared to be 1.60 m tall and I first thought he was dressed in a diving suit.

Suddenly, under the effect of a pressure comparable to a breath, I was thrown across the road where I stayed for ten minutes without being able to shout or call for help. The light blue lamps were still on me. They finally died out. The being crossed the road and suddenly disappeared. I felt and still feel pain in my legs and my right hand.

At the place indicated by the cultivator, the gendarmes noted that the earth had been freshly moved. The grass had been uprooted over an area of ??70 centimeters in diameter. No footprints were found.

Quarouble resident Marius Dewilde
who first saw the saucer pilots
reportedly had a new visit
of the strange "little men"

There has been less talk in recent days about flying saucers. And yet, if the mysterious craft really exist, it seems that they continue to face the sky of our region. Recently a hundred people in Saint-Saulve observed a luminous disc moving in the azure. A lawyer from the Valenciennes bar, Mr. Gheslin, discovered at the same time, a saucer heading for Belgium.

For a while, there was no shortage of testimonies. And then suddenly it seemed that witnesses to the sidereal appearances preferred to keep the apparitions of cigars and other flying objects to themselves.

The skepticism of most of the consulted savants has often ridiculed people who have, sometimes in good faith, reported their visual encounter with the flying saucers.

Mr. Dewilde became
misanthropist

It is so true that Mr. Marius Dewilde, the Quarouble reisdent who, the first, saw the "interplanetary" passengers thought for a moment of filing a complaint at the Public Prosecutor of Valenciennes about the sarcasm he was the subected to. To calm him down, he had to demonstrate that his complaint was not justified.

Since then, of course, Mr. Marius Dewilde no longer wants to welcome anyone. One may have had the honors of the press and the cinema and not be happy. However, Mr. Dewilde is so dissatisfied with the somewhat overly satirical publicity about him, that he only confided to the authorities his latest encounter with the "Martians."

In an unknown
language

Because our Quarouble resident claims to have seen again a saucer and its passengers. This time it happened in broad daylight! The object landed again on the railroad tracks near Mr. Dewilde's house, not in the same place, however.

The little men spoke to him: a few words in an unknown language before flying away silently and disappearing.

On the railway sleepers, one observed the same traces as before, a little wider all the same and presenting a perfect symmetry. A few leaves of crushed grass marked the place of landing.

***

What should we think after this new testimony? For those in favor of the existence of the saucers, it would have been preferable for Mr. Dewilde to stick to a first appearance. It will hardly be admitted that the Quarouble territory is so interesting to the pilots of the mysterious craft. And then it was pointed out to us, the spots of impact noted on the crosspieces are all in the longitudinal axis of the said crosspieces. However, it is difficult to accept that a craft landing can locate with such precision the center of such a narrow plateau. There should have been claws on the edges of the pieces of wood. But the saucers are already the enigma. What is the point of looking for details? You have to believe or disbelieve, pending revelation.

Another saucer

and 9 p.m., a saucer which was flying above Aulnoy. Several other local people observed the phenomenon.

A "CIGAR"
IN OYE-PLAGE

Mr. Charles Pierru, secretary general of the town hall of Oye-Plage, also saw at 11:15 p.m., an opalescent glow ten meters in front of him and at a height of twenty meters, which marched over the national road in the same direction as him, that is to say from Oye-Beach towards Calais.

Having no thoughts about saucers, he was therefore extremely surprised and stopped for a few seconds, regretting the late hour which left no light shining in the houses. Resuming his walk - Mr. Pierru went by foot - the witness was able to realize very exactly the figure of the craft: the shape of a cigar (like the cabin of a wingless airplane), no noise, no smoke escaped from the craft. Even at this short distance, no porthole stood out, only this uniform luminescence demarcated the thing.

It was visible for more than a quarter of an hour, its speed not exceeding that of a cyclist. Arrived at a certain distance, towards Marck, it obliqued at right angle towards the interior of the grounds and, thus placed, it appeared like a sphere: the apparatus seen by the section whose relation to the length was of approximately a 10th.

False Martian and
saucer in Creil

New craft appearances
in France and Italy

The saucers seem to be becoming increasingly rare in the skies of France, that they desert, if we are to believe the witnesses, for Italy. The reports also allude to two stories of "Martians", one occurring in the Creuse, the second, that of Creil, not being than a prank imagined by a railway worker.

This one had made, using an old oil can and a transparent raincoat, a diving suit, to which he had even added, to make it better, a lamp projecting a green glow.

In the evening, he rushed towards twenty of his comrades who not only were panicked, but also apparently found the source of information which quickly reached the North of France and announcing an invasion of Martians in Creil.

It all ended in a general burst of laughter, even as regards the administration, because the railway worker had carried out this mistification [sic] outside of his working hours.

However, our region had the visit of one of these craft. This is at least what several residents of the rue Jean-Jaurès in Creil think, who declared to have noticed on Tuesday, an "abnormal glow" in the sky, in the middle of the afternoon.

It is also a "strange white glow" that declared to have seen a truck driver of Tarbes, Mr. Vincent Casamajou, while he was heading, in the morning around 6 a.m., with a load towards Angoulême, in the company of his wife.

Having parked my truck on the side of the road, I saw, as well as my wife, he said, a craft which had just taken off from a meadow, less than 50 meters away. The latter, who was lowered, rose abruptly, shining two powerful lamps on me, projecting a very dense light blue light. He also had, on each side of his head, a light green colored lamp which emitted much weaker rays than the others. He appeared to be 1.60 m high and at first I thought he was wearing a diving suit.

Another machine, of cylindrical form and a very marked pink color, crossed, according to three witnesses, the sky of Verola at a fast pace, in direction of the North-West.

Quarouble resident Marius Dewilde
who first saw the saucer pilots
allegedly had another visit from the strange "little men"

We've been talking less about flying saucers lately. And yet, if the mysterious craft really exist, it seems that they continue to haunt the sky of our region. Recently, a hundred people in St-Sanlve observed a luminous disc moving in the azure. A lawyer from the Valenciennes bar, Me Gheslin, discovered at the same time, a saucer heading for Belgium.

For a while, there was no shortage of testimonies. And then suddenly it seemed that witnesses to the sidereal manifestations preferred to keep the apparitions of cigars and other flying objects to themselves.

The skepticism of most of the consulted scientists has often ridiculed people who, sometimes in good faith, have reported their visual encounter with the flying saucers.

MR. DEWILDE HAS BECOME
MISANTHROPE

It is so true that Mr. Marius Dewilde, the Quarouble reisdent who, first, saw the "interplanetary" passengers, thought for a moment to request the Public Prosecutor in Valenciennes about the sarcasm of which he was the subject. To calm him down, he had to be demonstrated that his complaint was not justified.

Since then, of course, Mr. Marius Dewilde no longer wants to receive people. One may have had the honors of the press and the cinema and not be happy. However, Mr. Dewilde is so dissatisfied with the somewhat overly satirical publicity about him, that he only confided to the authorities his latest encounter with the "Martians."

IN AN UNKNOWN
LANGUAGE

Because our Quarouble resident claims to have seen a saucer and its passengers. This time it happened in broad daylight! The craft, again landed on the railroad tracks near Mr. Dewilde's house, not in the same place, however.

The little men spoke to him: a few words in an unknown language before flying away silently and disappearing.

On the railway sleepers, the same traces as before were observed, a little wider all the same and presenting a perfect symmetry. A few places of crushed grass marked the place of landing.

What to think of this new testimony? For those in favor of the existence of flying saucers, it would have been preferable for Mr. Dewilde to stick to a first appearance. It will be difficult to admit that the Quarouble territory is of such interest to the pilots of the mysterious craft. And then, as we have observed, the points of impact noted on the sleepers were all in the longitudinal axis of said sleepers. However, it is hardly admissible that an aircraft landing can find with such precision the center of such a narrow plateau. There should have been claws on the edges of the pieces of wood. But the saucers are already the enigma. What's the point of looking for detail? You have to believe or not believe ... while waiting for the revelation.

ANOTHER SAUCER
IN AULNOY-VALENCIENNES

Let's point out that Mr. Petoux, a bank employee in Valenciennes, saw Wednesday evening between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., a saucer moving above Aulnoy. Several other local people observed the phenomenon.

A "CIGAR"
IN OYE-PLAGE

Mr. Charles Pierru, secretary general of the town hall of Oye-Plage, also saw at 9:15 p.m., an opalescent glow ten meters in front of him and at a height of twenty meters, which advanced over the national road in the same direction as him, that is to say Oye-Plage to Calais.

Having not thought aoubt the saucers, he was therefore extremely surprised and stopped for a few seconds, regretting the late hour which left no light shining in the houses. Resuming his walk, Mr. Pierru went on by foot, the witness could realize very exactly the figure of the craft: the shape of a cigar (like the cabin of an airplane devoid of wings), no noise, no smoke escaped from the craft. Even at this short distance, no window could be distinguished, only this uniform luminescence demarcated the thing.

It was visible for more than a quarter of an hour, its speed not exceeding that of a cyclist. Arrived at a certain distance, towards Merck, it veered at right angle towards the interior of the grounds and, thus placed, it appeared like a sphere: the apparatus seen by the section, whose ratio with the length was about a tenth.

A CULTIVATOR THROWN
TO THE GROUND
BY A "MARTIAN"
EQUIPPED OF
LIGHT BLUE LAMPS

A farmer from the village of La Vaureille, Mr. Aimé Bousard, 47 years old, told the gendarmes of Aubusson of the "strange encounter" he made while returning from the borough of Alleyrat (Creuse).

At the place called "La Madière", he said, I saw a shape moving on the side of the road. I stopped to better observe the individual. The latter, who was lowered, got up suddenly, pointing at me two powerful projectors, lamps projecting a very dense light blue light.

He also had, on each side of the head, a very dense light green lamp which emitted much weaker rays than the others. It appeared to be 1.60 m tall and I first thought he was dressed in a spacesuit.

Suddenly, under the pressure of a blow, I was thrown across the road where I stayed for ten minutes without being able to shout or call for help. The light blue lamps were still on me. I felt and still feel pain in my legs and my right hand.

At the place indicated by the cultivator, the gendarmes noted that the earth had been freshly moved. The grass had been uprooted over an area of 70 cm in diameter. No footprints were found.

Jimmy Guieu quotes - saying that these are statements by the witness to the gendarmes of Aubusson who investigated into the matter:

"I stopped for better observing the individual. The latter, who was lowered, suddenly stood up, directing two powerful 'lamps' projecting very dense light-blue light at me. It also had, at each side of the head, a 'lamp' which emitted much weaker rays than the others. It appeared approximately 1 m 60 tall and wore a kind of diving-suit. The light-blue lamps remained directed at me. They died out finally. The being crossed the road and disappeared suddenly. I felt and I still feel pains in the legs and at the right hand."

Jimmy Guieu says that the gendarmes found at the place indicated by the witness freshly stirred up ground, that the grass had been torn off on a surface of 70 centimeters in diameter, and that no trace of footstep was found.

Aime Bousard (47), a farmer, was cycling back from the town hall at Alleyrat to his hamlet Vaureille, when, at a place called Le Madiere or Le Badiere. he suddenly saw an individual bent down by the side of the road. When the stranger stood up he projected two bright beams of blue light on Aime. He also had two lamps, emitting green light, on either side of his head. Aime could see that this stranger was 1.6m tall and dressed like a diver. As he stood up and projected the beams, Aime felt a pressure and a violent wind through him backwards. He remained unable to move for 10 minutes as the stranger moved about, shining the blue beams. He suddenly disappeared. Aime continued to feel pain in his right arm and leg, and when interview the right hand was still swollen. A circle of upturned earth 70cm in diameter was found at the site.

Evaluation - According to local gossip Bousard either got into confrontation with a motorist, whom he shot at (meant was hit by?) or got beaten up by a gang of youths and made up the story to explain his injuries.

Note: "Gross 1954" is supposed to indicate my web page on the case; but no link was provided, its content was not really reflected, and the presentation by Rogerson might suggest that I did not give the explanation. Rogerson also mixes, like Larry Hatch did, this case with another one: Aimé Bousard never "dealt with a motorist on whom he shot."

On April 18, 2003, while I only had for sources Jacques Vallée's summary [Ref. jve1 above] and the brief comment by Charles Bowen [Ref. cbn1: above], I wrote:

"Explained unless proven otherwise: confusion. No UFO had been reported whatsoever in relation with this event. The case is sometimes also referred to as having taken place in Alleyrat or Vaureille."

On November 22, 2004, having been contacted by an historian of the area, and after our discussion and kind offer, I managed to get the article of the newspaper "La Montagne" published seemingly two days after the events [Ref. lme1 above].

Taking into account this newspaper article, I noted:

I figured out that possibly Charles Bowen mixed things up with some other case, maybe that in Sinceny.

But more important, the discovery of the misspell "La Madière" instead of "La Badière" by Jacques Vallée helped me find out the explanation by Michel Figuet, [Ref. fru1: above], which was not that of a confused witness but that of a lame made up story.

Larry Hatch indicates as source for the "Farmer shoots at stranded motorist" explanation "/r30 p670," that is, Michel Figuet's book on page 670; which really is [Ref. fru1], not a "farmer shoot at motorist" but a hoax.
