The conference recently given in Toulon by Mr. Michel Rouré, under the aegis of the Rationalist Union, aroused passions.

Here is a "readers’ column" due to Mr. Savelli.

The U.F.Os. finally explained!

The main cause of UFO sightings is the moon. This is the "scientific" theory put forward by Mr. Michel Rouzé (for whom 99% of cases are now explained) during the conference organized by the Rationalist Union on Tuesday April 1.

No, although it took place on the above-mentioned date, this performance was not intended to be a joke because the speaker, it seems, is an authority on the topic.

In the same way, this journalist who readily claims to be "scientific" will have, throughout this evening, tried in vain to define parapsychology, in which he includes the U.F.O. phenomenon, through... spiritualism, bringing to us at the same time a whole bunch of new elements on our satellite so dear to the poet and so misunderstood.

Damn old moon! Who would have thought that! So it would be her who gives hallucinations to our gendarmes! It is she who leaves important magnetic traces on the ground and it is for them that in France we created the G.E.P.A.N. (Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena Study Group). And I thought I knew everything about her! Who, I ask you, would have thought that our satellite would be able to take off in this manner, take ninety-degree turns, change color and sometimes shape? Who could have imagined for a single moment that it could reach speeds more than six times greater than that of our fastest craft - ground-to-air rockets - and sometimes be followed by radars (also hallucinating, no doubt) up to another country?

Clearly, we cannot trust anyone, not even the French State, which pays scientists from the C.N.R.S. - the G.E.P.A.N. already mentioned - to study, sketches of extraterrestrials in the pocket, moon landings sometimes accompanied by hallucinatory manifestations resembling beings from beyond space...

As for me, though I hadn't been given a satisfactory explanation about parapsychology, I would have at least learned to be wary of the moon.

Thomas Savelli
