UFO in the sky of Thouars, France, 1976:

The article below was published in the daily newspaper La Nouvelle R publique, France, on June 8, 1976.

A U.F.O. IN THE SKY OF THOUARS

"Another flying saucer", would the skeptics say.

"Certainly a manifestation of extra-terrestrials", say those who believe in an upcoming invasion of little men from Mars... or another planet...

We will be careful not to be so affirmative and we will content ourselves with recalling this disturbing phenomenon that several trustworthy people living in the city center have seen.

The case goes back to last Thursday. It was around 9 p.m. when a kind of orange globe appeared, with an almost unbearable brilliance for the eyes.

The lower part was made up of a darker area of purple to black. The strange shape was in the westerly direction from the city and it was impossible to assess its altitude. The dimensions seemed imposing but again, impossible to quantify.

At times, say the witnesses, beams of light similar to those that could be emitted by searchlights sprang forth.

The shape was visible for over half an hour. It then took the form of a luminous crescent, the mass became entirely purple surrounded by a brilliant halo, then it resumed its original appearance, turning pale pink and it set off again in the direction of Vrines.

It should be noted that that evening, the sky was perfectly cloudless, the air very clear. No confusion with the moon or the sun was possible. So?... The question remains.
