UFOs in the daily Press:

The June 2, 1976, UFO in Nîmes, France, was a balloon:

The article below was published in the daily newspaper Le Midi Libre, France, on July 3, 1976.

The UFO was a balloon

Following a call for witnesses launched in our columns about unidentified flying object on June 2, the "Véronica" group received numerous testimonies. They thank their correspondents and informs them that it was - as it had let it be understood - a weather balloon of very high capacity. Launched from Lyon as part of the "Eole" project, it was intended for the study of the troposphere (i.e. the slice of atmosphere closest to the earth) up to an altitude of 30 kilometers. Despite the mistral, the angular displacement of this balloon, observed for more than two hours in the Nîmes region, was barely perceptible because of its very great height.
