Melun. -- Numerous witnesses living in the towns of Braye-sur-Seine, Lagny, Mauret, and Thomery reported seeing an unusual phenomenon at nightfall: an oval-shaped, yellow-orange object more than 20 meters long moving at an altitude of 300 meters.
The object remained motionless for a few moments, then disappeared at dizzying speed.
One of the witnesses, Mr. André L., a weather specialist living in Thomery, estimated the object's speed to be [illegible] 10,000 km/h - quite simply.
Mr. L. stated: "I'm absolutely certain, because I know the subject well: it was neither a plane nor a weather balloon."
In Melun itself, several young women leaving an evening class claimed to have seen a similar object in the sky, which, after hovering for 10 minutes, reportedly rose rapidly into the sky. Meanwhile, a glowing orb is said to have appeared six times to two indus-

tralists from Melun who were traveling on the Melun-Rubelles national road; the appearance of this luminous source reportedly caused a large flash each time, lighting up the entire region.
Finally, several riders from the La Rochette Equestrian Center claimed to have seen a figure fleeing their grounds: "He was strange, different - it could only have been a Martian!"
