Mysterious 'Something' Scares School Children In Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE - Lethbridge school children say they are being regularly frightened by a mysterious ghost-like something that hangs in the air over Fleetwood Elementary School.

Whatever it is, it has been reported by three Lethbridge high school boys and they say at least half a dozen of their friends have verified the sightings.

They also say many more children have seen the thing, but are afraid to talk about it because they are laughed at.

LIKEWISE afraid of being laughed at, the high school boys do not want their names published, but one of them has consented to give a report to a representative of the Unidentified Flying Objects Agency in the United States.

The organization is a private one which investigates reports of flying saucers and similar phenomena.

One of the Lethbridge youths told The Herald the object had been sighted three years ago on six successive evenings by two of his friends.

HE SAW it himself nearly two weeks ago and his friends also confirmed the sighting.

It was seen Nov. 23 at 10:30 p.m., Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 9 p.m.

"It's kind of scary when you see it," the boy said. "At first it wasn't there and then it was."

He described it as being slightly elliptical in shape with a width of about six feet.

It was stationary in the air about 20 feet from the ground on one occasion and appeared over the bell tower on the Fleetwood school on another.

HE SAID IT was a translucent bluish color, giving off a small amount of light.

The boys threw rocks at the thing, but the missiles veered off in another direction.

He said it was hard to tell if the rocks bounced from a solid object, or were simply forced away.

The boy has told his mother of the sighting, but she attributes it to an active imagination.

"I've heard stories that it's somebody playing a prank," the youngster said, "if it is, I'd sure like to know about it."
