'Flying Saucer' Seen on Monday By Bob Southey

Robert J. Southey is one of the Wisconsinites and the only Burlington who reports to having seen some of famous "flying saucers" which are a cause of wonderment to the entire United States. Southey saw some objects, flying at a high rate of speed, Monday afternoon, north of Elkhorn. The objects resembled, both in shape and manner of flying, the discs which people throughout the country have reported seeing for the past two weeks.

While at the Elkhorn airport Monday afternoon Southey heard a report of Kenneth Jones, Elkhorn pilot, who said that he had just seen some of "saucers" as he was flying toward Elkhorn from the south. Southey, accompanied by Glen Hackworthy, Milwaukee, went up to see if they could find any traces of the "saucers." Soon after they were in the air they saw an object which they at first believed to be a silver plane with black wings, therefore making only the body visible from a distance. After some observation however they discovered that the object was not a plane but some other moving, disc-shaped object. Southey reported his findings to Milwaukee where a check of course and estimated speed of the discs showed that it was possible that, from previous reports, the discs would have been in the Elkhorn area when Southey reported seeing them.

Like most people throughout the country Southey has no idea what the discs or "saucers" might be. "Although I had read and heard the reports of previous observations of the discs I wasn’t really convinced that they were flying through the air until I saw one myself Monday afternoon," he says.
