Crop circle:

My findings:

What follows is not proof of anything else than stated in the conclusion. Any other point of strangeness about crop circle is or will be approached elsewhere, i.e. here.

"Why do you think Terence Meaden has let the phenomenon lapse into well deserved obscurity? Why do you think Pat Delgado has disappeared from the picture entirely, as Colin Andrews seems to be in the process of doing? You don't hear too much about the phenomenal circles from Busty Taylor and George Wingfield these days, either. I wonder why? Because they know what you don't."

(A guy on a web forum in 1999.)

The "Julia Set" crop circle in Stonehenge on July 7, 1996:

The goal of this article is to let you know what you may not know about a particular formation that has been on the top list of those who claim that crop circles are not made by hoaxers.

This crop circle is referred to as "The Julia Set" and was found on July 7, 1996, near the Stonehenge, England, prehistoric monument. It is constantly cited as "unexplained" or proof that all crop circles are not hoaxed.

It is also cited by ufologists who think UFO are "paranormal" or "interdimensional" and the such, rather than extraterrestrial, to claim that "Ufologists ignore data" that are supposed to mean that UFOs are part of a larger paranormal phenomenon and not extraterrestrial visitors.

All this seems pretty nice when you only know their part of the story. But it is not. It is awful.

THE ALLEGED WITNESSES OF THE ALLEGED FAST APPEARANCE:

"When a massive crop circle materialized beneath the gaze of Stonehenge in 1996, it was alledged by one of their close friends, Rob Irving, that the group made the said fractal pattern- a representation of the computer-generated Julia Set fratal- despite the fact that two pilots, a security guard and a gamekeeper all claim the formation appeared within a fifteen minute window one Sunday afternoon."

(An Expert).

A very large number of people say that this crop circle was created in record time. They say that testimonys prove it.

According to the witnesses:

No witness statement at all was made available to my knowledge.

According to Colin Andrews, 2003:

In his book "Crop Circles - Signs of Contact" (2003), Colin Andrews indicates that at 17:15, one pilot flew above the field whereas he was going to Stonehenge so that his passenger, a doctor, can takes aerial pictures of the monument. Andrews states that none of the two has "seen anything" in the field at this time.

Andrews continues by saying that "at about 18:00", they again flew above the field to return to the airfield, and that the formation was there this time.

He continues by saying that at 18:15, the police force received calls about the formation because a great number of people had parked on the adjacent dangerous road to look at the formation.

He adds that the monument close to the road is guarded day and night. He adds that the "cynics" say that the formation is difficult to see from the road because of the reliefs of the ground.

According to Fred Silva, 1998:

Fred Silva is a crop circle expert convinced that some of the crop circles are not made by humans, and he published a article on www.lovely.clara.net/crop_circles_history96.html with a headline telling that this formation was "not there a few minutes ago", and a photograph captioned "it materialized in under 45 minutes and in daylight.

The article tells that Rod Taylor carried a passenger in his small Cessna, and that their route would entail flying over the Stonehenge monument. They passed there at 17:00 500 feet above the ground and there was nothing unusual. 45 minutes later, his passenger drove past Stonehenge by car and noticed that cars were parked, people having come out and looking at the formation. He tells that a second pilot, and one guard then "reduced the time of materialization of the formation to 15 minutes."

According to Michael Lindemann:

According to Michael Lindemann, who interviewed Rod Dickinson that claimed to be one of the makers of this formation, the article being published on the crop circle makers web site at www.circlemakers.org/la.html, it is one doctor in a private plane that saw the formation when he flew above the place at 17:30, then again at approximately 18:15. There is not mention of a second witness in the plane.

According to Janet Ossebaard:

Proponent cerealogist Janet Ossebaard indicates in her page "facts and theories" at www.circularsite.com/intro2b-eng.htm that multiple witnesses that were all pilots who flew above Stonehenge around 17:30 saw that there was no formation, and when they flew above Stonehenge once again at 18:00 the formation was there.

According to Andreas Muller:

Convinced cerealogist Andreas Muller, in a list of evidence of the paranormal nature of the crop circles, at www.kornkreise-forschung.de/textFaQ.htm, writes that pilot Rod Tailor, who is a friend of the crop circle maker Busty Taylor (www.busty-taylor.com), although they are not relatives, flew at 17:45 above the place, the monument being a landmark appreciated by pilots, and that there was then nothing.

He adds that it is only at 18:00 that "one" saw the formation. Motorists on A303 had stopped to look at it.

He adds that a group of witnesses made up of 2 people, sergeants wardens on the "English Heritage" surveyed site of Stonehenge to whom he says the crop circle was "relatively observable" saw that the formation was not there at 05:00 p.m..

He informs that in year 2000, convinced cerealogists Bert Janssen, Frank Laumen and himself interviewed "the employees Stonehenge once again. "They spoke with one employee who was one of the two guards that were witnesses in 1996 and they "confirmed their statements of 1996" in front of their video camera, but "English Heritage" formad their video tape to be shown, and "for this reason" the name of the guard will not be published. No other information is provided.

He adds that in 1996, farmer Philipp Sandell said that there were at the edge of the farm's field two farm workers and one farmer who "worked to repair the field's entrance" at approximately 17:00 or 17:30, and that they "observed nothing unusual."

According to Etjo Haselhoff:

In his book "The Deepening Complexity of the Crop Circles", this physicist indicates that he had heard say that a pilot named Busty Tailor had flown over the place at 17:30 without seeing anything unusual, then flew again there at 18:00 and had seen the formation. The source of this information is not provided.

Haselhoff says he then phoned Busty Taylor, whom he knew because he is also involved with crop circles, and Busty Taylor told him that the pilot is in fact one of his friends who watches for crop circles with him since 1988 and "who knows what he is looking for" According to Busty Taylor, this pilot whose name is not given flew 7 times above Stonehenge at 17:30 and did not see a formation at 17:30.

Haselhoff also states that a pilot of the RAF (Royal Air Force) named David Kingston, who is his friend and who has a full-time interest in crop circles, told him that "three independent witnesses had been found that confirm that "the formation 'appeared' in half an hour approximately in broad daylight." No other detail is provided about that.

He adds, "one farm worker confirmed the absence of any formation during the day" (neither the name nor the time nor the source are given) and "one safety guard had had the opportunity to look down in the field and has seen nothing (neither the time, nor the name, nor the source are provided).

According to Quest for Truth:

In the TV documentary about crop circles "Quest for Truth" of 2003, a cerealogist states on camera:

"In 1996, we discovered a huge circle, it appeared very close to Stonehenge, the most popular megalithic site here in England. My friend Rod Taylor is accustomed to flying between there and the close city to take photographs of the site. When he left Stonehenge to return we we are, he stopped for refueling, then went there again, and that's when he noticed these forms: 140 circles! He calculated the time of the way between Stonehenge up to now and time to supply the plane. There was for 25 minutes. Rod is certain that these forms were not there when he flew over Stonehenge the first time."

According to A.J. Samuels:

A.J. Samuels, a known cerealogist, indicates on August 4, 1999 on alt.paranormal.crop-circles that he visited the site on July 12, 1996. He says that he spoke with Pamela Sandell, the wife of a farmer, and that she told him that the pilot was a friend of the family, that he often flies there, and that he phoned them to tell about the formation as soon he has landed.

The above deals with "principal investigators" information, if this can be refered to as investigation, and the people who seem to be the best informed about this formation. There, I did not use just accounts which were written by distant thirds parties using "principal investigators" information, but the best informed that I managed to find. What follows gives a nonexhaustive view on the claims of third parties, ranging from very vague to inaccurate to deformed up to delirium.

On the Internet:

A crop circle information database indicates as timing from 16:30 to 17:15.

An Italian website claiming the exotic nature of this formation writes that it appeared in 45 minutes between 17:45 and 18:30.

A British website devoted to Stonehenge copies a "new age" website that indicates that it apparently appeared in half an hour or so.

A website about "The Bible and Numbers" says that there are "strong chances that the realization of this figure was made in a few seconds" because the formation appeared in less than 15 minutes: around 17:30 pilot Rod Taylor accompanied by a doctor on board his plane had flown over the zone to take photographs without seeing anything, and that pilot on his way back, after refueling, 30 to 45 minutes later, discovered the formation.

A British website sympathetic to the notion of a genuine crop circle mystery says that the person who discovered it early flew above Stonehenge in the search of crop circles in the morning and did not see anything in the field, there he saw the formation when he flew again there 45 minutes later, and that "this story entered the crop circles mythology."

A web page tells that "eyewitnesses reports" indicate that the formation appeared in 20 seconds in front of their eyes.

On the website of the well-known radio host Art Bell, a version tells that a pilot of the RAF flew over the place in the day and did not see a crop circle. He flew by again 15 minutes later and there was the crop circle. The pilot immediately called people and had them sign affidavits saying that all had really happened in full day and within 15 minutes.

Conclusion on this point:

Now you know.

Now, next time that somebody tells you that the crop circle of Stonehenge made by aliens or balls of light or psychic energies or military satellites sending maser rays, and so on, because bulletproof testimonys attest that this formation was made in 45 minutes or 30 seconds, you know exactly what there is to know about these alleged testimonys.

But you do not know everything about Julia yet, nor what the claims about witnesses allow to find out...

There is naturally a rather large number of websites that give different figures, I do not want to make a database of all those. I would rather explain why cited numbers should not simply be believed to be accurate, and beyond the observation of serious divergences that seems whimsical, to explain why the numbers are so divergent.

Nobody gave a plan or provided really clear measurements. Even the width, the length, the number of circles, the unrolled length, wich are the most basic data are generally not entirely indicated (NP).

Thereafter, errors spread: the number of circles changes from 149 to 151 to 212. The length goes from 152 m to 280 m.

I must recall that it is a formation considered of first importance, a solid case that the proponents of an extraterrestrial creation or paranormal activity claim to be a major, solid, and convincing crop circle case.

Explanation of these errors:

The number of circle becomes 151 instead of 149 per confusion between the number of circle and the rounded to the meter width of the crop circle. Somebody made this confusion and it was reproduced by others who did not check the figures out.

The length becomes delirious because researchers forget to specify whether they talked of the length of the formation or the length of the unrolled spiral of the formation. Then, other researchers gave as length of the formation the unrolled length of the spiral. Worse, some other researchers take this false length and make calculations to find another unrolled, even larger, length. The formation can thus grow indefinitely!

The values obtained already reach up to:

Unrolled length: 279 m
Width: 152 m
Number of circles: 212

The true dimensions:

Unrolled length: 182 m
Length: 152 m
Width: 85 m
Number of circles: 149

So we went from real dimensions of 182 * 85 meters to dimensions about 279 * 152 meters, repeated on TC channels, Wikipedia, etc.

Opinions of proponent researchers about this crop circle:

When you are told that the Stonehenge crop circle is unexplained to date, you are told that the foremost crop circles experts, even "scientific experts" told this. You are told that those who deny a paranormal or extraterrestrial origin of this crop circle are "armchair researchers" and that only the opinion of those who were on the premises matters, for example Colin Andrews or Paul Vigay, researchers who think that some crop circles and especially this one are indeed unexplainable as pranks.

Is this true? It is not!

Paul Vigay:

Paul Vigay is a proponent of the thesis that all the crop circles are not done by men and that some are proof of the existence of something more mysterious. He thinks that the arguments of the skeptics and circle makers are paranoid. He is the director of the operations of the Independent Research Centre for Unexplained Phenomena (IRCUP) and the editor of the magazine "Enigma" (www.cropcircleresearch.com/Enigma).

He visited the Stonehenge crop circle shortly after its discovery, and on March 16, 1997, on the forum alt.paranormal.crop-circles, he wrote:

"Personally I would say that the 'DNA' and treble spiral [another crop circle] are more likely to be genuine than the Stonehenge formation."

And:

"I didn't find anything that conclusive at the Stonehenge site. It was also quite badly damaged when I got there (the day after creation) and on the whole I was unimpressed."

And:

"The Treble one was reasonably good condition and lots of interesting bits (ie. bent stems, nodes etc) whereas the Stonehenge one was rather crude in comparison. I didn't really like the Stonehenge one."

On July 28, 2000, he specifies on the same newsgroup, about this formation:

"The Stonehenge formation had NO anomalous effects detected inside it."

John Sayer:

John Sayer is the editor of the " Cereologist" crop circles magazine (www.sayer.abel.co.uk). He thinks that crop circles are something mysterious, and that the hoaxers have the kind of personality who make them instruments of the Evil and the "New World Order".

John Sayer examined this formation on the spot and reports on the forum alt.paranormal.crop-circles on March 16, 1997:

"... the "Julia Set" at Stonehenge, the "Triple-arm" on Windmill Hill and the "Snowflake" below Oliver's Castle, all had underlying paths on which circles were placed. These paths were not created by visitors walking between the component parts, but were underneath the circles, which means they were created before them, and which indicates to some that they were construction lines used by the (probably human) circle makers."

Colin Andrews:

I probably do not need to recall that Colin Andrews (www.cropcircleinfo.com) is the "defender" of this formation that all the others quote. Perhaps must I however recall that Colin Andrews walked inside crop circles since 1983, started to use a magic rod to differentiate "true" from "hoxed" crop circles. He also clains that the CIA threatens him because of his thesis, and now seems to withdraw from the crop circles world, putting his files at auction. His opinion is that an otherworldy intelligence creates both the "forged" and the "genuine" crop circles.

According to a Reuters agency newsbrief for September 21, 1996, he stated, about the Julia formation in Stonehenge and another not far from there:

"If these Julia Sets can be proven to be made by humans, then we can all pack our bags and go home. If these are human-made, I won't be giving speeches on this topic next year."

But on November 13, 1996, he stated, according to an article at www.cropcircleconnector.com/PRI/colina.html:

"The extremely attractive crop formations known as 'The Julia Set' and 'The Triple Julia' which appeared in fields around the Stonehenge area of England this summer have been the subject of on going investigation. New information has lead me to believe that they may have been the extraordinary work of people who's names I have in my possession."

Let's summarize all this.

According to: The Julia set is:
Colin Andrews: Made by Robert Irving and other crop circle makers he knows.
Paul Vigay: Made by men, and without strangeness.
Michael Lindemann: Made by men.
Janet Ossebaard: It is impossible that men made it because multiples independant pilots prove that it was made fast.
John Sayer There are evidence of hoaxers action in the formation.
Fred Silva: It cannot be have been made by men because witnesses indicate that it was made in 15 minutes or less.
Eltjo Haselhoff: It cannot have been made by men because three independent witnesses in planes prove that it was made very quickly.
W.C. Levengood: It cannot have been made by men because analyses show the possible action of microwaves on plants samples at the site.
Andreas Muller: It cannot be made by men because three independent witnesses confirm that it was made in 15 to 60 minutes.
Other proponents in general: The formation is one of the best "genuine crop circles" ever, and proof - depending on opinions - of messages by the aliens, landings of UFOs, crop flatening balls of light, paranormal forces, unknown higher intelligence from other dimensions or another world or a psychism inside the Earth, secret military activities, landmarks for RAF helicopters, ions vortex, whirlwinds, result of unexplainable unconscious force in the psychism of humanity, etc, because it was made very quickly according to witnesses, that it is impossible to make so fast and perfectby men, that laboratories made plant analysis etc.

Now you know.

You know that the most convinced experts who were there know very well that this formation is not "genuine" but hoaxed.

You know that Colin Andrews, quoted as the number one expert concerning this formation, who was on the premises, said that if this formation can be explained by the action of hoaxers, then, any other formation is also explanable that way, and it would have nothing else to do than pack is back and drop this solved mystery. You also know that he then sais the formation was made that pranksters. You know that he then did not admit anymore that the crop circle mystery had its solution.

But you do not know all yet about Julia... I still have many things to say.

Allegedly, no hoaxer said "we did it":

According to an interview of Andrew Colins published in 1998, Rob Irving said he was in the team that made the formation. Rob Irving declared in 1997 that this is not true, that he did not confess. John Lundberg of the cropcirclemakers said he did. Rod Dickinson, chief of the Satan Team, said he did.

It is not true that crop circle makers never confess.

What is true, is that when a crop circle becomes famous, even circle makers who have nothing to do with its realization claim they did it, and in the world of crop circle makers teams, lies and misinformation reign. They cannot either formally assert the formations made in all illegality since they would get in trouble with the authorities. They thus confess a crop circle here while denying it there, and you would not get a signed paper they did it when the formation was not authorized before realization.

All this mess is just what they need to discredit any notion of an end to the mystery. The circle makers want prestige and know that if it becomes too obvious that all the circles are theirs, nobody would pay any attention to their work anymore. They do not want to "kill" the mystery at all, they want it to continue. Their formations would not appear in booksm they would not appear on TV anymore, if they showed all crop circles are theirs.

Strangeness features:

You probably read some things like "the crop circles are not always made by pranksters, since one there finds characteristics incompatible with the action of forgers, such as for example, a lengthening of the nodes of corns, exploded dead flies... " etc.

You probably also read things as "some crop circles are done by an electromagnetic source of energy, it was proven by scientific studies in laboratory carried out by scientific truths... " etc.

Here, I will not discuss in general the value of these arguments, of what in oneself these pled characters of strangeness are worth. These discussions are elsewhere on my Website. I will no more discuss the alleged testimonies pled for this affair, I did this previously in this article.

Here, the only question is to determine which anomalies known as characteristic allegedly unexplainable by the thesis of the pranksters are found in this formation, to determine if anomalies specific to this formation are incompatible with the action prakksters.

For example, is there nodes lengthening, or scientific analyses of laboratories which prove the action of some electromagnetic waves or the action of anything other than human flattening?

First, a list of the alleged anomalies of the crop circles and this formation must be presented. I give here the list drawn up by the biophysicist cerealogist W.C. Levengood, which says that there are 14 anomalies that are characteristic of the crop circles:

8. The line joining the central circle of the formation and the central circle of the monument is aligned with the magnetic North. The hoaxers probably could not have done the calculations required to do this.

6. It took one full day to enter each circle and draw it using equipment.

5. David Probert said he would need 48 hours to create the formation.

Cela n'a aucune base.

4. The guards can see the formation from an elevated patrol path north of the Stonehenge monument.

7. The central circle of the formation is aligned with the Stonehenge monument circle.

Point 7 has no value.

2. The formation was clearly visible from highway A303.

3. It was visible from cars on A303 without looking from the edge of the road.

"It doesn't look much!"

Biophysicist William Levengood discovered biophysical changes at the cellular level inside the plants from the Julia Set formation, which he believes could not be caused by hoaxing.

http://www.bltresearch.com/labreports.html

"In regards to physical analysis, we will be working on two projects. CPR is planning an extensive soil and plant sampling procedure, "Operation Plant 93", working primarily with Matt Moniz of Springborn Laboratories in Massachusetts. We are also working directly with Dr. Levengood of Biophysical Laboratories in Michigan. Sampling procedures have been worked out, and it is hoped that this effort will help provide details to confirm Dr. Levengood's current findings. Dr. Levengood's research has recently been repudiated by German academic biologist Susanne Lenzner, who claims to have replicated the effect on the cell walls in plants trampled by feet, wind damage, etc. She also claims that the swollen nodes are not unusual, but formed by a natural process which is fully understood. I am hopeful that "Plant 93" will provide us with enough evidence to fully validate this line of research."

"... into standing crop outside formation."

9. Analysis at Springborn Agricultural Laboratories discovered a 5:1 reduction of pesticide levels within plants.

During 1983 Colin and Pat Delgado sent wheat plants to Bio-physicist, Dr. W.C. Levengood in the USA. After a number of years research into plants from many crop circles worldwide, Dr. Levengood announced that his findings too involved cellular changes and possibly the involvement of microwave energy during construction. Matt Moniz based at Springborne Laboratories, in the United States worked closely with Dr. Levengood and also confirmed some of his findings.

One more word.

You notice that the line in the middleis the only one which is "perfect", at least "almost perfect." This is expected; let'us now see why.

The methods:

Obtaining one spiral only requires a piece of equipment to roll a length of tape in as you walk in a steady pace around the central zone.

This is done in less than a minute.

It is impossible to obtain the other spirals to put the smaller circle on in such a manner that they are correctly aligned. It would take too much time for nothing anyway.

This is why only the central spiral is well done.

The other spirals with the smaller circles on the sides are a disaster, but it does no matter because nobody notices such faults and nobody has checked anyway and published this imperfection information in 10 years to the best of my knowledge (except myself).

Even the skeptics didn't check!

Footprints:

To enter the field, hoaxers use the tramlines. If they wear heavy shoes and if it is muddy, traces are easy to see. But who goes out to make a crop circle when the weather's bad? Hoaxing is done in the summer when the ground is hard and dry, and hoaxers do not wear military shoes.

And anyways, it does not matter, because nobody searches for footsteps, and even when they are found, nobody says that it proves humans did the formation. When footsteps traces are found, all proponents disregard it, saying that the traces are form earlier visitors of the circle!

However, there is something that "believers" never tell, because this single piece of information, if it was known and used, would put an end to the entire crop circle mystery:

For some traces, you can prove that they were not done by earlier visitors, you can actually prove that they were done by the hoaxers.

The rationale is known to all real crop circles experts for more than a decade, but when it comes to crop circles, who really tries to learn anything? Most people are very happy just to repeat the believers' nonsense and never make any effort to look for real answers or use their own brains.

Was such a proof of hoaxing found in the July 7, 1996 Julia Set formation at Stonehenge? Even the "skeptics" do not know.

But now, you know:

Conclusion:

The "Julia Set" crop circle in Stonehenge reported on July 7, 1996 is without true strangeness.

Instead of a true investigation and publication of an investigation report, we were offered entirely contradictory rumours, whimsical figures and claims ranging from utter lies to completely speculative, and much contradictions.

Although I do not claim I am a crop circle expert, as I am a ufologist, it hardly took me time to discover it, as so much od the claims about this circle are without value, or simple to explain. The only aspects which really used some of my time was looking for facts that are hidden by the proponents of the "authenticity" of this crop circle.

I developped a "graphic" method, which to my knowledge was never used, that allows checking the perfection or lack thereof in the geometry of formations of a certain design class.

This crop circle in almost systematically cited as being one of the most convincing of the so-called "genuine" crop circles as opposed to those made by by men, but it was actually made by men.

This crop circle cannot be claimed to be proofthat there are "genuine" which would not be made by men.
