Observation reports October 2002:

Some of the UFO observations in October 2002 are listed on this page. Please note that these are not studies, but second hand observation reports, although mostly obtained from reliable and well known sources.

UFO SIGHTINGS IN ASTRAKAN, RUSSIA:

On Thursday, October 31, 2002, "a series of UFO sightings was reported in Astrakhan," at the mouth of the Volga River on the Caspian Sea.

"For five consecutive days, a spherical UFO performed aerial maneuvers above the rooftops in the upper hillside section" of Astrakhan. "Occasionally, the UFO emitted small spheres of white or golden light." "Another UFO with the same characteristics was seen by several witnesses in the town of Ortzonikitsk. The object fired beams of light at the ground. The beams were red, blue and green. The UFO emitted these colorful rays of light for several minutes and then disappeared before the astonished gaze of the witnesses present."

Many thanks to Daniel Munoz, NotiOVNI, for this report.

PHOTOGRAPH IN VERMONT, USA:

The witness wrote:

"My name is Ellie Quigley and last month in October my aunt and I were driving up to Vermont from CT. While my Aunt was driving, I was taking pictures of the colorful foliage. In one of my pictures, I noticed later when we got home, there are weird streaks in view. When I took the picture I didn't even notice it. I took the picture thru the windshield of the rental car we were in."

UFO SIGHTINGS IN RUSSIA:

On Tuesday, October 29, 2002, four teenagers were driving on the Moscow-Simferopol Highway when they spotted an unusual object in the sky. The teens "observed a red UFO while driving south on the highway near Kursk. They were heading towards the city when the four witnesses spotted the UFO circling slowly in the sky, looking like a glowing star."

"The UFO's approach caused the car's radio to go haywire. They could no longer hear the Moscow radio stations, just long, intermittent bursts of static. Finally, the strange object continued its flight toward the southern horizon. As it passed out of view, the car's radio returned to normal."

Many thanks to Daniel Munoz, NotiOVNI, for this report.

BRIGHT LIGHTS IN NEW YORK, USA:

The witness, Mary Fowler writes from New York City:

"I just saw something very odd while sitting by the window of my apartment at 1:30 AM, on October 29, 2002. I saw a string of lights that looked like a constellation floating by in the sky. I wanted to go to the rooftop of my building to get a better look but was too afraid because I am not really a believer in UFO's. I am very surprised to see something strange like this, especially in New York City. Could it have been birds migrating? But if it were birds why was it lit up like stars? I am very uneasy about this. Do you know what this could be?"

Thanks to Mary Fowler and to Maj. George Filer, USAF, ret.

UFO ATTACKS A CAR IN SOUTHERN AUSTRALIA:

"Purnim grandmother Sue Sharples can't explain the metallic object she saw in the sky yesterday (Friday, October 18, 2002)."

"She also has no idea where the rear windscreen of the vehicle she was driving has gone."

"Mrs. Sharples said yesterday she was driving with her husband along Mortlake Road on the northern side of Warrnambool," Victoria state, Australia "when the couple noticed the shiny object above the vehicle." "Their baby grandson was in a cupola in the back seat."

"Mrs. Sharples said that after a few fleeting glances they noticed the rear windscreen disappear upwards after it seemed to have been 'sucked from' the car."

"She admits their story is 'absolutely unbelievable' but that the proof lies with the vehicle's missing window."

"'There is not a scratch on the car. Nothing,' she said."

"Two searches of the area failed to locate the missing window."

"The couple's son-in-law phoned police in case someone had been hurt by the projectile."

"Experts from the (automotive firm) Windscreens O'Brien can't explain how the window could have disappeared."

"After inspecting the car, a spokesman said the window could not have been kicked out and there was no sign (that) it had been cut free."

"The seal was still attached, and there was no glass splintering, he said."

"The windscreen was fitted to the 1994 Toyota earlier this year (2002)."

"'How can you say what something is when you have never seen one before?' she said, 'It's just absolutely amazing.'"

US SCI FI CHANNEL CHALLENGES US GOVERNMENT UFO SECRECY:

The Business Wire Advisory for October 17, 2002, writes under the original heading "Supports New FOIA Effort on UFO Records and Release of Report on Failure to Conduct Scientific Research" that:

"SCI FI Channel will announce its support, Tuesday Oct 22, of a new effort to gain release of secret government records on unidentified aerial phenomena, commonly referred to as UFOs and release a new report by an independent journalist [Leslie Kean] on the federal government's failure to carry out systematic scientific research into this widespread phenomenon (5% to 10% of which scientists say cannot be explained by natural or human causes)."

"Citing the importance to the public of declassifying government records, John Podesta, former Clinton White House Chief of Staff, will speak in support of the effort to gain release of still secret government records. A new FOIA initiative will also be announced."

"To generate public support for more disclosure and a scientific investigation the formation of the Coalition for Freedom of Information (CFI) will also be announced."

ORANGE UFOS SIGHTED IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL:

Ufologia Brasileira communicates:

"During the last two weeks, ten people have seen three UFOs with the same characteristics" over and around the city of Florianopolis (population 380,000), the capital of Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina, and its sister city across the strait, Sao Jose.

"The UFOs are orange. They are enveloped in an aura of yellowish light. They were challenged by ufologists on the ground, who were using flashlights and lanterns. Each time they were signalled, the UFOs retreated in the direction (east) of the beach and then out into the skies over the South Atlantic. Two of the three UFOs spotted were witnessed by former (Brazilian) military personnel."

"We would like to know if others in the UFO community here in Brazil or overseas have seen orange lights similar to those we have seen here."

Muito obrigado a Rafael Vidal Eleuterio e Ufologia Brasileira por eso caso.

UFO FLOTILLA GATHERS OVER SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, USA:

On Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at 3:30 p.m., motorist James A. was driving on Missouri Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois (population 31,542) when the lights at the railroad crossing began to flash. The gate came down, and Jim stopped the car, waiting for the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe freight train to go by.

"While waiting at the train crossing on Missouri Avenue," Jim reported, "I noticed what I first thought to be a large object in the sky moving up and down in what I would describe as a 'spiral motion,' each time taking a different shape. Needless to say, my curiosity was raised."

"After the train passed, I continued down Missouri Avenue, watching the object. It then became obvious that I was not watching one object but many. I would estimate 100 to 200, all moving in sequence."

"When I left the (stop) light at Centreville (population 5,951), I pulled off Highway 15 before the Interstate Highway I-255 exit and continued viewing the object for about 10 more minutes. Suddenly, without hesitation, they broke ranks, with a large group heading southeast in a V-shaped formation, like geese flying. About two or three of these formations. A smaller group headed west, about 15 to 20 of them. I was trying to watch both groups in what they were doing."

"Approximately 30 seconds after they proceeded in the directions they were heading, two F-15 fighter jets appeared out of the north, flying towards where the objects had been. At that very moment, the two groups of UFOs were gone--just disappeared."

Jim described the UFOs as "metallic, sun reflecting off objects, round in nature the best I could tell. Very high, made sequential movements, very precise."

SPHERICAL UFO SIGHTED NORTH OF SEATTLE, USA:

On Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at 7:45 p.m., John Novak and a friend were doing some automotive work in a backyard in Lake Forest Park, Washington state, located 15 miles north of Seattle, when they spotted a glowing UFO in the sky.

"At approximately 7:45 p.m.," John reported, "a friend and I were in his backyard changing the oil in his van when, facing south, I saw a large, glowing, whitish - blue ball of brilliant light move slowly across the sky at least 60 to 65 degrees altitude above the horizon." "I first spotted it in the sky southwest of us, heading on an eastern path, which would have put it going over Puget Sound towards Lake Washington, over the small cities of Shoreline (population 53,025) and Lake Forest Park, just north of Seattle."

"The moon was out that night, so we compared the size of the object relative to the moon, and it was about one-fourth the size of the moon. There were two airplanes to the south of us that appeared to change course and follow it to the east. We saw the red and white flashing (navigational) lights of the planes but never saw any flashes from the object, that was quite a bit larger in the sky than the airplanes."

"Just before it went out of sight over the trees to the southeast, it just vanished, like someone had turned off the power. The two airplanes appeared to change course at that point and move west. The entire sighting was about three to four minutes" in duration.

CYLINDRICAL SILVER UFO SEEN IN NEW ZEALAND:

On Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at 10:15 p.m., a silvery UFO appeared over the Otago coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Eyewitness Kirsty Sutherland reported, "At 10:15 p.m., I saw what I thought was a plane. I was thinking what a strange direction it was travelling for this area" because "most flights travel either north or south. This one appeared from the west," heading east towards the Pacific Ocean.

Kirsty, who was in the city of Dunedin at the time, "followed it for about 30 seconds, then it vanished. It was slow-moving, with an instantaneous departure. The object was silver, similar to what you would see viewing a Boeing or the like without wings."

SEVEN SILENT WEDGED SHAPED OBJECTS SEEN IN CANADA:

The witness reports from Oshawa, Ontario:

"My wife and I were watching TV around 10:30 PM, on October 14, 2002. We live on the sixth floor of an apartment building. To the east, there appeared to be 2 or 3 orange colored lights coming towards us, (this happens frequently as we are apparently in the flight path of the Oshawa airport). The only thing was, the lights did not get any closer. They seemed to possibly be about a mile away from us. They hovered for a while and eventually, as time went by, at least seven lights were seen by both of us. I used binoculars to try and see more, but all I could make out was the orange lights and nothing else, except for what seemed like smoke, steam or exhaust coming from them at times?. This stream of exhaust seemed to go up into the sky quite a ways. We heard no sound and the night air was calm. If there were helicopters hovering in the night sky, I'm sure we would have heard something. Then they were gone.

VERY BRIGHT LIGHT LIKELY TO BE MISSILE LAUNCH, NEVADA, USA:

The witness reports that he was driving down Route 93 towards Jackpot at around 8 PM on October 14, 2002, when he saw a very bright light almost hovering in the western sky. The light was shining down from what appeared to be several miles up. There was a plume of white trailing the light and it was going a little up, not down as a meteor would. The light was very large and then suddenly it went out. The sparkly plume then died out something like a firework would when it's at the end of the display. Then it was gone completely.

George Filer's note: The witness likely observed a missile launch from Vandenberg AFB.

AN OBJECT SEEN BY ENTIRE FAMILY IN GEORGIA, USA:

The witness reports from Eastman:

"My family was driving home from the fair on October 13, 2002, when we spotted a very bright light. It was not quite dusk when we saw it. We drove slowly with the windows down until we lost sight of it behind some trees and we turned around to go back for another look. We saw it again in the same spot and then as if it had seen us, it just blinked off like a light bulb. The sky was clear and I am familiar with the towers and other light producing objects in the area. The UFO was way too bright and just above tree top level about 5 miles away. The light was almost "pure" white. I could not make out a shape behind it. I made a report to Warner Robins Air Force Base, Georgia an hour after the sighting."

UFO SEEN IN WISCONSIN, USA:

On Sunday, October 13, 2002, at 10:35 p.m., eyewitness P.G.L. was at home in West Allis, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, when he noticed a strange light in the sky. "I stopped at our skylight just before bed and was looking at what I thought was the constellation Cassiopeia, but then, just below it, suddenly appeared four orange triangles," P.G.L. reported.

"They appeared to be hovering approximately 1,000 feet up, and then moved at first slowly and then very quickly in a southeasterly direction. Since our skylight is on a slanted part of our roof, I was able to observe them for approximately 10 more seconds." "The configuration was three triangles in the same of an arrowhead, with a fourth riding underneath the arrowhead." The fourth UFO "and the right tip of the arrowhead appeared to veer off slightly, still staying with the group, as they flew off at a greater rate of speed, due south, until I could no longer see them."

Thanks to Joe Trainor and to John Hoppe of UFOWisconsin for this report.

UFO SEEN IN WISCONSIN, USA:

On Sunday, October 13, 2002, at 2:03 a.m., the male witness, who asked to remain anonymous, reported, "I was driving north on Highway 61 between Dickeyville and Tennyson. About one mile (1.6 kilometers) outside of Tennyson, I observed a flashing towards the Mississippi. It was not the usual barge lights. I thought to myself, There must be a new cellular tower down there, as I could see the sky flashing and not the source."

"A little further on down the road, I looked over Hog Hollow toward the (Mississippi) river and saw five red lights shaped in an inverted V. There are no roads, not even field roads, to access the Hollow. The river is not visible from this location, so it could not have been anything on it. I grew up there, and I have never witnessed anything like that before."

Thanks to Joe Trainor and to John Hoppe of UFOWisconsin for this report.

STRANGE SPHERE ABOVE NORTH IDAHO, USA:

The witness reports from Rose Lake:

"As we were traveling east on I-90 we observed a bright sphere that was not moving on October 12, 2002. We pulled over on exit 34 to get a better look and realized that the sphere had split or there were actually two together. One went west and the other went east, then began to zigzag as it turned east by southeast. After that it quickly faded from view, but not apparently from traveling too far away. After the sphere separated or split, my wife and I continued to watch the one going south by south-west, and we didn't really keep track of the other moving west. My son, who is ten and daughters 7, and watched the other one moving west, as they could see it out the rear window of our car. As it continued moving west until it faded."

NUFORC Note: The object the witnesses observed was not the ISS, which passed overhead at 19:08 and 20:44 hrs. on this date.) http://www.heavens-above.com/

SAUCER-SHAPED LIGHT IN WASHINGTON, USA:

The witness reports from Renton:

"I saw one UFO moving very fast across the sky on October 12, 2002,. I was in the military and I've seen A-10's moving at high speed and low altitude, but this was the fastest I've ever seen anything move. What I saw was a little more than a half circle of light, with the brightest section facing the direction of movement, kind of like you would expect a meteor to look as it was coming down through the atmosphere. It appeared about the size of a quarter from my perspective."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC.

STRANGE LIGHT IN THE SKY IN UK:

The witness reports from Rotherham:

"On October 12, 2002, at approximately 7:45 PM, my fiancée and I were walking home and noticed a strange light in the sky. He pointed it out to me and we both observed it for about two minutes. We are both quite certain that it wasn't a helicopter, airplane, or a star. It was much bigger and brighter than a star and it swayed from side to side and seemed to bob up and down. The light faded and got brighter whilst we watched it for about two minutes until it eventually just disappeared altogether, but it did not move away, it just faded away. We both observed strange white beams of light coming off it that resembled a sparkler. I live near to Sheffield in England. The strange light that I sighted was over Tickhill in South Yorkshire, England."

Peter Davenport reports: If the reported time is correct, the object was not the Space Station/Space Shuttle, which were rendez-voused on this date. They passed over at approximately 19:30 hours. (7:30 PM).

My note: if the 7:45 P.M. timing is approximated and the 7:30 P.M. is also approximated, there are good chances indeed that the observed lights may be the ISS/Shuttle.

WHITE SPECKS MOVING BACK AND FORTH, FLORIDA, USA:

NUFORC reports that the witnesses were lying down in the truck bed on October 12, 2002, getting ready to see a movie at 8:10 PM. "We looked up and saw plenty of stars, but they started to move. They would all stop, and just a few would move up, down, left, and right. They were so high up, that they were just a speck of light but some were brighter than others. We saw about 40 to 50 of these all on the eastern side of the moon. Some were near the moon others farther away. After the movie, midnight, we only saw 2 or 3 moving around. We didn't know if there was more then, because the stars were visible."

LIGHT BIGGER THAN A STAR, ENGLAND:

Donna wrote from Tickhill, Yorkshire:

"On October 12, 2002, my fiancé and I were walking home, when he noticed a strange light in the sky at 7:45 PM. He pointed it out to me and we both observed an object bigger and brighter than a star for about two minutes. The movement it made was strange, it swayed from side to side and seemed to bob up and down. The light faded and got brighter whilst we watched it for about two minutes until it eventually just disappeared, but it did not move away, it just faded away. We both observed strange white beams of light coming off it that resembled a sparkler."

BRIGHT GREEN TRIANGULAR OBJECT, PROBABLE SPACE JUNK, MISSOURI, USA:

The witness reports from Springfield:

"This event was probably space junk burning up in the atmosphere on October 11, 2002, but the intensity of the light, color, and speed of object were extraordinary. A shape was discernable at 6:17 CDT. It was roughly an acute triangle with points of greater brightness. Color was bright green with gold overtones. Sparks were flying off the thing tangential to direction of movement. It traveled roughly from an 11:00 position to almost the horizon in a north-northeasterly direction. Color of sparks ranged from gold to dark red. It looked like it had a plasma surrounding it. The object was about 16 millimeters in length and about 4 or 5 millimeters in width at the widest as observed by the naked eye. There was also some structure evident in the shape itself with some longitudinal lines of brightness, almost a gold red, running through the basic shape. It was quite striking. I observed it from the driver's seat of my vehicle and was startled enough to come to a complete stop and contemplate what I had just seen."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC.

STRANGE OBJECT FILMED OVER AIRPORT IN MALAYSIA, BUT WEB PARGE GONE:

Seemingly, the Malaysian Daily Express has announced in their news section that "A surveillance camera (CCTV) mounted atop the Kota Kinabalu International Airport terminal captured a rather strange sight resembling a "flying coffin* hovering over Terminal Two, last Friday night."

On 10/11/2002 I wrote:

"This link was provided, theoretically including photos: http://www.dailyexpress.com.my/news.cfm?NewsID=14205 Unfortunately when I wanted to check if this news item does exist, I could not connect at all to the page and also not to the main page www.dailyexpress.com.my ; it seems their server is down at this time. A LIGHT THAT SPLIT, WISCONSIN, USA:

The witness reports from Hayward:

"My friends were walking down the road and we noticed a flashing pure light on October 10, 2002. This light was never there before, because it was by our radio hill. When we stopped and the flashing kept moving around and then the light would occasionally split into 3 to 4 different lights and go back. The light was at a 30 degree angle and appeared to be a spherical. When it flashed the light came out in all directions and I can also tell that it was below the clouds because when it flashed it lit up the clouds behind it above it and below it. I have lived here many years and have never seen a light like that before. We could also see it moving slowly. It would flash and seem to split, but by the time the next flash took place it rejoined."

SAUCER-SHAPED LIGHT IN WASHINGTON, USA:

The witness reports from Seattle:

"At 6:00 AM, on October 10, 2002, I observed a sphere shaped object descending from the sky to the north and the object I saw was entirely lit up and was yellow orange in color with a smaller red light on top. In its rapid descent, it moved in a downward jerking motion and occasionally made darting motions to either side. It did not appear to be an airplane or a helicopter, there were no landing lights etc."

"SCREEN SHOWING INCORRECT RADAR DATA" HAVE AIR TRAFFIC STAFF SEE "GHOST PLANES" OVER NORTH SEA:

BBC News online has announced on October 10, 2002 that air traffic control staff at the new national air traffic control centre at Swanwick are seing "ghost planes" on their computerized radar screens. The ghost planes are attributed by "by screens showing incorrect radar data." Swanswick uses brand new Lockheed-Martin radar systems, dubbed "one of the world's largest and most advanced air traffic management systems" by Lockheed-Martin.

A unnamed spokesman for U-K's National Air Traffic Services insisted safety was not being compromised by the non-existent planes.

He said: "The ghosting problem has affected only a few screens and only affects an area of the North Sea. Safety has not been compromised, but, nevertheless, we felt it right to issue a notice to employees."

The newsclip adds: "NATS has now warned controllers at Swanwick of the problem and told them to keep aircraft further apart than normal if the phenomenon occurs."

Controllers at the less computerized center of West Drayton, west London have said the latest "ghost" problem did not occur at their centre.

(Please note this is not a "UFO sighting report" but an information on radar problems.)

BRIGHT LIGHTS IN WISCONSIN, USA:

Carmen K. says:

"My husband called me outside around 8:30 PM to observe strange lights in the sky on October 9, 2002, and I saw what appeared to be a falling star, and told him that's what I thought it was. At that point two objects became apparent and began flashing like strobe lights. At first they were white in color as they moved west, they then looped around and within seconds were back in the same spot I had first seen them. We called out my son and our parents and we all observed them for around 30 more minutes. At one point we saw five lights ranging in color from white to red. When they were red the light was steady and not flashing like the rest of them. A plane then flew overhead and the lights seemed to follow and come up on the plane very quickly like they were observing the plane, they then disappeared for a few minutes and reappeared in the same spot, I had first seen them."

STRANGE SIGHTING IN BORNEO ISLANDS:

The witness writes from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah:

"It was 7 PM in the evening, while I was at the factory coming out for a smoke on October 8, 2002. I saw this craft with lights in the sky hovering. At first, I didn't pay much noticed to it cause I thought would be a helicopter flying around the area. Then I realized that the object wasn't making any sound and the lights on the craft seems like a hamburger. It was hovering slowly like a normal helicopter will do but after two minutes looking at the object, it suddenly disappeared with trials of lights following it. That is, the last I saw of the object, and that was when my spine started to shiver. Two days later the Daily Express in Sabah had a front page picture of the object."

LIGHTS IN CONNECTICUT, USA:

MUFON reports that a witness around midnight of October 8, 2002, saw three lights that were not moving toward the Simsbury Airport: "The lights just seemed to float about the same speed as my car and seemed to be flying pretty low. Maybe a helicopter but it didn't look like one? Matt was wondering if anyone had reported strange lights over the area?"

Thanks to Matt and John Schuessler, Director of MUFON.

SPHERE IN NEW JERSEY, USA:

The witness reports from Jersey sighting a sphere with an unmistakable copper finish on October 7, 2002, that was not emitting light but reflecting it: "It turned black and shadowy on its lower half intermittently giving an impression of undulation The sphere was approximately 2 to-3 feet in diameter based on its visibility in reference to the Chase building about a half-mile away and its relative size in comparison with Chase's satellite dishes... It flew a straight and consistent flight path to the northeast maintaining an altitude of about 300 feet. Its trajectory and path was too straight for a balloon to maintain for the duration that I witnessed. It made no sound."

BRIGHT LIGHTS IN NEW YORK, USA:

The Witness reports from Rome:

"As I was driving to pick up my sister at her high school on October 7, 2002, I noticed a VERY bright object in the sky. Another appeared below it. I picked up my sister and we sat in the car with a clear view of the west, and noticed the bottom one started zigzagging left and right. At least two other ones appeared below the large bright one and did the same. The bright one dimmed dropped down even with the other two and shot back up. The lights changed from bright to dark several times and then one dark one shot across below those, much closer. We observed this activity until clouds rolled in and obscured the view!"

BRIGHT LIGHTS IN NEW YORK, USA:

The witness reports from Thousand Island Bridge:

"While fishing in the St Larence River on Sunday, October 6, 2002, at between 7 and 7:30 AM, my fishing partner and I observed a saucer shaped object in the sky just to the east of the rising sun. As the sun kept rising and moving, the object stayed in one place. It was hard to judge the distance-50 to 100 or more miles at a 30 degree angle from ground level. We did not see it leave as trees got in the way. It was definitely nothing I have ever seen before."

Thanks to Maj. George Filer, USAF, ret, Filer's Files.

BRIGHT LIGHTS IN NEW YORK, USA:

The witness reports from Famingdale, Long Island:

"I was up late as usual and I always look around outside and I look up and appreciate the sky. On October 6, 2002, there was one "star" in the sky at about eye level, that was so bright that I assumed it was a plane. Just one bright white glow. I stared at it until my eyes watered and I would look away for a moment close my eyes and re-open them, look back and stare again... same thing. It seemed to hover but then move quickly slightly to its left then right. It was far away and the distance it seemed to travel so quickly ruled out my second idea that it might be a helicopter. I went outside at 3 AM, leaned on my car and stared into a clear night at this bright object. I noticed at times a sparkle of light to its left and right or maybe my eyes tired from staring, I don't know. I gave up and dismissed it as "whatever" until I found that there have been many reports of objects in Long Island."

UFO SPOTTED IN CALIFORNIA, USA:

Eyewitness D.K. spotted a high-flying UFO over Walnut Creek, California on Sunday, Oct 6, 2002, at about 3:30 p.m:

"It was a clear afternoon," D.K. reported, "We saw what appeared to be a star nearly overhead and in a slightly easterly direction. Four witnesses watched the object for approximately 20 minutes. Two of the witnesses saw the object leave its position and turn westerly. It was stationary until that sudden and rapid movement to the west. Then it disappeared within two to three seconds, all from an altitude of well over 50,000 feet, possibly 100,000 feet. The object returned to its original position two to three minutes later. It stayed in position for approximately 20 minutes until again moving, this time to the south, and not returning."

D.K. described the UFO as "a bright white star, its shape changing to an upright cylinder and then to a horizontal triangular shape, as seen through binoculars. Its estimated speed was 2,000 miles per hour (3,200 kilometers per hour)."

TEN UFOs FLY A MILE OUTSIDE OF O'HARE FIELD, ILLINOIS, USA:

The witness reports from Des Plaines:

"At about 4:30 PM, my wife was getting our kids in the car to leave on October 5, 2002, when we heard our neighbors yelling, look up there! There were ten balls of light at this distance moving around at what I estimate to be a mile high. They were higher than the planes are at that distance from the airport. They then formed into an hourglass shape or two triangles and remained that way for about five minutes. They changed again to an inverted L shape and started to travel east towards the lake. They then changed again to two rows of two or five on top of five with the outside two lights being farther north than the others. They stayed this way until they flew out of site in about 15 minutes. Five minutes later two more flew directly north to south past us at a much closer distance. There was still one on top of the other, so we could see the shape was a flying triangle or possibly diamond."

Thanks to Peter Davenport, NUFORC.

LIGHTS IN PENNSYLVANIA, USA:

The witness reports from Plymouth Meetings:

"I was outside having a cigarette on October 5, 2002, and I was looking up at the sky and saw a flying triangle shaped lights blinking radically. It was in no way an airplane light. I passed it but off as nothing. Then to my surprise at 7:40 PM, there were more coming very fast and very close to each other with odd light patterns. Then I new something was not right, so I went inside to grab my family, and they confirmed what I saw. We tried to find a logical explanation for these craft, but could not. This was very odd and I would like to know what they were? I have never seen an Air Force plane look like that!"

UFO SPOTTED IN GEORGIA, USA:

The witness reports from Watertown:

"My friend and I were going 4 wheeling on October 5, 2002, when we saw a flying rectangular shape that slowly came to a stop at 7:20 PM. When we stopped, we noticed, it had very bright lights that were greenish blue, white, and red. Suddenly the object made a sharp 180 degree turn and headed directly toward us. It flew right above us, and it started to shine its light on us. My girl friend got really scared, she told me to go as fast as I could and drive into the garage. Instead I went up my driveway, when we noticed that the object had turned another 90 degrees and was again beginning to follow us. So my friend and I got off the 4 wheeler and ran to get my Mom and brother. By this time the object picked up speed and shot across the sky. I begged my friend to get back on the 4 wheeler and when she finally did we went to the other side of my house to see where the object went. My friend got really scared and got off the 4 wheeler and ran in the house. As I was parking the 4 wheeler I noticed the lights again. so I called for my friend, but she did not come out. As I watched it began to disappear, and as it moved farther away, it just vanished. There was no noise."

FOUR TRIANGULAR UFOs SEEN IN NORTHAMPTON, UK:

On Friday, October 4, 2002, at 11 p.m., Annabel and Wayne Norton were at their home in the city of Northampton, UK when they spied something unusual in the night sky.

Annabel Norton reported, "The objects were flying high up in the sky. We spotted four triangular-shaped objects, all of the same size and white in colour, with a red/orange glow around them similar to an aura." "At first, we thought they were stars but, after a couple of minutes, we realized this was not possible due to the colour and the speed at which they were travelling."

"The four objects were moving in a westerly direction at high speed. They looked as though they were dancing through the skies, moving forward with sudden movements to the sides. One permanently stayed at the back of the formation whilst the other three darted around almost as though they were playing with each other. We only witnessed this for a maximum of 40 seconds before they were totally out of sight."

FIREBALL OR UFO IN FLORIDA, USA:

On October 4, 2002, an Embry-Riddle pilot was flying northbound at 10:40 PM, and in contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC)on 132.65. He broadcast very excited, "I just had a near miss." ATC asked him what type of aircraft he saw and where it was? The pilot responded, "It was not an aircraft, it was just a short way off my right wing. It came upon me very suddenly and soared upward and was about the size of a baby carriage." ATC asked him if it could have been a bird? The pilot responded "No it was no bird, it soared upward fast; I have no idea what it was!" The controller related some unusual sights he had seen during his career flying USAF C-130s, and he tried to calm the pilot, but the he remained a bit excited about what he had seen, insisting that it was a strange unsettling sight. Eventually the ATC handed him off to 125.8, another Daytona Beach Approach frequency.

YELLOW UFO SIGHTED IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA:

Canadian ufologist Brian Vike reports this sighting that took place near Houston, British Columbia, Canada. "On Thursday, October 3, 2002, the witness was on the telephone with her daughter. She was looking out her kitchen window, which faces the Telkwa mountain range. She noticed a strange, pale, yellow-coloured object traveling slowly below the horizon of the mountains. She said it was "completely round." The sky was clear except for some low cloud/fog in some areas."

"The witness told her daughter to hold on, dropped the telephone and ran outside onto their patio deck to get a better look at it. At this time, the object rose up against the skyline but still continued along its path, which was in a southwesterly direction heading towards the Morice River Road.""

She said there were no wings or propellers which would indicate the object being a normal aircraft.

Many thanks to Brian Vike for this report and to Joe Trainor for forwarding it.

THREE FLYING OBJECTS SPOTTED IN MANHATTAN, NEW YORK, USA:

The witness reported: "It was about 11:20 PM on October 1, 2002, I had just finished a recording session and I needed a little fresh air so I went on top of the roof to relax received a call from a friend and saw three flying objects that changed shapes. At about 11:18 PM, I looked up at the GE building and at first glance it looked like it was 3 very large black birds which seem to glide over the water tower. I noticed the objects started to change shapes. Then I noticed them lift up to sky in what seemed to be a sequence of shapes. I noticed the objects were flying just above Trump Towers on 56th in a sequence of patterns, that included a circle and a triangle. At this point the lights got brighter. After 3 minutes they dimmed and flew in a straight line towards Central Park and finished."

GREEN LIGHT BEHIND JET SPOTTED IN STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, USA:

The witness reported: "I reside in the Emerson Hill area of Staten Island and on the evening of October 1, 2002, 7:45 PM myself and a good friend were in our backyard watching a US fighter jet patrolling the airspace above New York City. This was the first game of the Yankee Playoff Baseball series with Anaheim. On it's first pass it made a loop coming from over the harbor, then just passed the Verranzano Bridge and looped back around the bridge and then back over the harbor, over Brooklyn, creating a circle pattern that was quite obvious. The first and second passes were normal, but on the third pass we saw something that wasn't normal. I said to my friend, "Do you see that green light following that fighter jet?" he responded ," Yeah, it looks like a bright green star!" We both saw a bright green star following directly behind this fighter jet, only by a short distance, but to the lower left hand side of it, and every move the jet made, this thing was right there with it, flying almost effortlessly. We only heard the engine sound from the one jet. The lights on the jet were blinking white and red on top and had visible port and starboard wing lights. The object that was tailing it, was a bright green light only. It followed the jet as it turned back towards the Verranzano and on the fighter's 4th pass, the light was gone."

EGG SHAPED UFO OR BLIMP SPOTTED IN STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, USA:

The witness reported: "My father was driving, and I pointed out an egg shaped UFO flying relatively low on October 1, 2002. It was a lot larger than a plane moving around slowly in what seemed like circular motions. We watched the UFO as we drove and when it went out of site behind tree cover we rushed home to get our binoculars. We then headed to Gateway Park to try and observe it again, but it had gone. There were either one or two white lights on the egg shaped object."

Peter Davenport receives numerous reports of blimps from the NYC area that may be responsible for the report.

SILVER SPHERE UFO SEEN IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA, USA:

On Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at 3:42 p.m., Keith L. Partain was "at the intersection of Twenty-First and Garnett in Tulsa, Oklahoma" when "I witnessed an object in the south rising toward the zenith. It was spherical in shape and silvery in color. I saw no wings or jet contrail. My best estimate of height was several hundred feet, and its speed perhaps just below supersonic."

"It was visible only for about five to ten seconds; then it vanished just a few degrees south of the zenith. Its apparent diameter from my vantage point on the ground was that of the planet Venus at its peak brightness. However, Venus is not in the south, and this was in broad daylight. The weather was clear, with just a few large cumulous clouds. No storms present." (Email Report)
