Investigation
On February 28, 1975 at 1 o'clock, Mr. Daniel L[-] telephonically informs us from a station of the V[-] factory in Montbard that he has just been the witness of the appearance of a flying object of which he cannot determine the nature. We invite it to come immediately to the offices of the brigade.
This man is obviously in a state of emotional shock, he is shaking and appears frightened. This driver reports to us that he circulated on the minor road CD 980, from Châtillon-sur-Seine towards Montbard. He saw this phenomenon at the exit of a wood at 2,5 km in the north of Montbard. The craft is said to have appeared in front of him, coming to meet him in the axis from the road. It appeared in the form of an indescribable mass of metallized gray color. It roughly occupied the width of the roadway. According to the statements of the driver, the object passed at a vertiginous speed by almost touching the cabin of the truck and, at the same moment, there was a violent flash. The appearance lasted only a few seconds and disappeared at once. This man is formal. The account reported to various people never varied and the personal of the hospital of Montbard, place where he spent the night, specified us on 1 March 1975 at 9 H that the behavior of Daniel L[-] is normal. The facts reported in the local press of March 2, 1975 did not make it possible to identify possible witnesses. Our research also remained vain in this direction. Only Mr. L[-] was witness of this appearance. The places of the appearance are at the North-East of the town of Montbard at 500 m of a hertzian radio relay. The truck circulated on the roadway of the minor road going from Montbard to Châtillon-sur-Seine.
This road is 7,40 m wide and is bordered on right side by cultivated ground in the edge of the forest of Fontenay, on the left side by the wood of the forest of Petit Géli. The atmospheric conditions of the night of February 28 to March 1, 1975 were very good, clear night.
Audition of Daniel L., 27 years old, resident of Auxonne (Côte D'Or).
I am employed as driver with the Establishments B[-], transporter, at Lamarche-sur-Saone, I left the deposit on February 26, 1975, I carried out a loading at Pontailler-on-Saone (Côte-d'Or) to transport it to Torcy-le-Grand (Aude). From there, I went to take another loading in Vaujours (Seine-Saint-Denis) in destination of Montbard and Dijon. I set out again from Vaujours on February 27, 1975 at 10 o'clock. I drove to Provins (the Seine-and-Marne). I stopped at 12 to eat. I resumed my travel at 14. In the afternoon, I had engine trouble with my truck; the relay of the speead gear started without stop. I repaired it myself. At 8 p.m., I stopped in Châtillon-sur-Seine, where I filled the tank. I dined in a restaurant, place de la Gare. I ate a little while drinking a quarter of red wine, a coffee and a small rum. I never drink alcohol between the meals. After I finished eating, I sent a message to my family via the radio show "truck drivers are cool". My daughter is sick and I wanted to get some news. I waited but, as I did not have an answer, I left the Châtillon-sur-Seine around 11 p.m.. I went in minor road CD 980 to go to Montbard. 4 km before this city, I stopped to spend the night on a carpark. At one o'clock in the morning, the cold awoke me and I resumed my trip with the intention to go to the place where I must unload. At 1 km of the carpark that I had just left and at the exit of wood, I saw a flying object which came to my meeting at a vertiginous speed. This craft thus moved direction South to North. Its dimension was roughly equal to the width of the roadway. It was a mass of metallized gray color, but I could not define its shape; it seemed to me that the craft went down and that it was going to hit me. At the time when it passed above me, I was dazzled by an intense light resembling that of an enormous flash. The object disappeared immediately. Afterwards, I did not hear any noise, but that of my engine. Considering its speed, I could not evaluate at which distance it was when I started to see it. All this occurred in a few seconds. Frightened and seized by panic, I accelerated to go to Montbard. I saw light at a guardroom of the factory V[-]. I stopped, I reported this phenomenon to the guard, then I phoned the gendarmerie of Montbard, which asked me to come to the brigade. Again, I reported the facts. Considering my state of shock and my great nervousness, the gendarmes invited me to go to the hospital in order to be able to take a sleeping pill and to rest for the night.
