MAY 30, 1990, NALCHIK, CAUCASUS, RUSSIA, SERGEY KOVANTSEV:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

A ufological catalogue indicates that according to the local ufologist Fyedor I. Konovalov, in Nalchik, the Caucasus, Russia, May 30, 1990, at 06:03 a.m., local man Sergey Kovantsev suddenly awoke in a panic without any apparent cause. Just after that, he felt being in a very unusual "lens-shaped" room with oblong oval windows which had all appearances of the interior of an extraterrestrial spacecraft, where he was sitting in a deep armchair in front of a table with other chairs around it, all this furniture being of the same ivory color. The floor seemed to be made of a greenish flexible material, the walls were brown and the ceiling greenish-orange. The light, coming from the ceiling, was evenly distributed, soft and pleasant. Kovantsev could see what seemed to be a mark on the wall at its left; which could have been a door, but it had no visible handle. While being on the chair, Kovantsev could apparently see his own body like from some other place away from the table.

Two humanoid beings sat in front of him and seemed to discuss between them, nodding the head from time to time, but he heard no voice. The beings wore combinations of bluish color without pockets or seams; which covered them entirely to their necks. Their heads were of normal size but with eyes clearly different from those of human beings: roughly the 4 times larger, having raspberry colord pupils which moved in a very strange way while seeming to narrow from time to time, becoming a point and then increasing to cover the whole eyeball; which was white. Their mouths were slits without lips and never opened nor moved. Their noses were large and flat, their ears were very close the head, elongated, and 1.5 times larger than those of human beings. They had short yellowish hair with "modern" haircuts.

A third being came at his back and put earphones on Kocantsev's head. In these earphones, he suddenly initially heard cracklings and noises like those of a radio that one would tune, which stopped quickly, and he then heard a clear voice which seemed that of a woman of 50 or 60 years old. The voice gave him "interesting" information, of which he did not remember anything as only of vague memories remained in his memory. He then asked, "in what year are you?" and the voice answered, "the 6648th." A little later the voice started to get lost and the radio tuning noises returned.

Then, Kovantsev heard another younger female-intonated voice, with which he felt more at ease. With confidence, he asked, "what's your name?" and the voice answered "Maya" and added that the year on her planet was the 9869th, a number different from that given by the first voice. "Maya" then indicated that in the honor of their meeting and as a mark of respect, a song by a choir of children would now be heard. Kovantsev heard a music with electronics and children voices singing essentially about joy, friendship and a happy life.

Soon "Maya" again communicated with Kovantsev, whom asked when they would meet again: she mentioned something about "17" and more, which he did not hear correctly because the voice started to fade. Kovantsev then had a lapse of memory, he came back to his sense being on his bed in a state of great confusion. The clock indicated 06:15 of the morning now, and according to his evaluation he had only been on board the spaceship during 12 minutes.

The next day, he learned that a local driver had seen a UFO in the shape of a sphere with a broad edge flying low above the houses between Nalchik and the hamlet of Khassanya. The object emitted multicoloured beams of light in various directions. The object then stopped in the sky and started to turn slowly around its axis. It is estimated that Kovantsev had been abducted on board this same object.

Essential information on the reporting of this experience are missing, it is not even known whether these were conscious memories or whether there was an investigation or whether this was all "recovered" memories from some hypnotic regression sessions, and the whole experience has much of the traits of an hypnagocic hallucination experience.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates that according to the local UFO researcher Fyedor I. Konovalov, in Nalchik, Caucasus, Russia, on May 30 1990, at 06:03 a.m., Sergey Kovantsev, a local man suddenly woke up and felt an unreasonable fear without any apparent cause. Immediately after that, "he appeared in an unfamiliar room." By judging the interior of the room, he realized that he was onboard some type of flying object. The room was shaped like a "lentil" and it had oblong shaped elongated windows. He was sitting in a deep armchair placed around a table, with other chairs around it, all these furniture being of the same ivory color. The floor appeared to be made out of "a greenish velvety material", the walls were brown in color and the ceiling greenish-orange. Numerous ellipse-shaped and bigger windows were located along the walls. The light emanating from the ceiling was even, soft and pleasant. Two humanoid entities sat in front of him, which appeared to be conversing about something. Kovantsev did not hear their voices and noticed that the aliens seemed to nod their heads at times, which is commented as "the dialog was obviously telepathic". From time to time, the entities looked at the witness "without interrupting their conversation." They were wearing thin overalls of bluish color without any pockets or seams that covered them all the way up to their necks. Their heads were of normal size but with clearly different eyes from that of humans, which were approximately 4 times bigger than humans. Their pupils moved in a very strange manner, and appeared to narrow from time to time, becoming a dot and then expanding to cover the entire eye cavity. The pupils were of bright raspberry color, and their eyeballs were of a pure white color. The alien mouths were slit-like, without lips, and were never opened and never moved. They had flat wide noses, and their ears were very tightly fit to their heads, elongated, and 1.5 times bigger than those of humans. They had short yellowish hair with "modern" haircuts. Kovantsev could see what appeared to be an indentation on the wall to his left; which could have been a door, but without any visible handles. Most interestingly was the state in which Kovantsev was in, while sitting on the chair: he was apparently able to see his own body from a point away from the table; which suggest an "out of body travel?" in Rosales' report. Another same and third entity approached him from his back and placed some type of device on his head, which resembled terrestrial earphones. He suddenly heard crackling and squeaking sounds at first in these earphones, like a radio receiver tuning into the necessary frequency. The sounds stopped quickly, and then he heard a distinct female voice. Judging by the voice it sounded like a 50 or 60 years old woman. The female voice spoke "interesting" information, which the witness could not remember, as only vague recollections remained in his memory. He then asked, "What year are you in?" and the female voice answered, "the 6648th". Soon after that, the voice began fading away and static appeared again. After that Kovantsev heard another younger female voice, which he felt more at ease with. Confidently, he asked her, "What is your name?" and the female voice answered, "Maya". "Maya" oddly then added that the year in her planet was now the 9869th year, a different number than the first voice had said. "Maya" then said that in honor of their acquaintance and her respect to the witness, a song performed by a children's chorus would now be heard. At that very same moment Kovantsev heard a melodic, electronic music and voices of young children. The song was mostly about joy, friendship and a happy life. Soon "Maya" communicated again with Kovantsev who then asked her when they would meet again. She then mentioned the number 17 and something which Kovantsev did not hear properly since the voice began fading away. After that Kovantsev experienced a memory gap and later returned to his senses lying on his bed, in a totally confused state. The clock now read 06:15 a.m., and according to his estimation he had only been onboard the UFO for 12 minutes. The next day he learned that a local driver had seen a globe-shaped UFO with a broad rim flying low over the houses between Nalchik and the hamlet of Khassanya. The object emitted thin multicolored beams of light in different directions. The object then stopped in mid-air and began to rotate slowly around its axis. Apparently the witness had been abducted onboard that very same object.

Points to consider:

I could not find any information or contact for the local ufologist Fyedor or Fyodor I. Konovalov indicated as the source by Albert Rosales, nor any other report about this case.

In these circumstances, with the witness feeling panicked in the night whereas he was probably asleep, and recovering consciousness still in bed, the explanation that appears the most obvious is hypnagogic hallucination. This explanation corresponds to a number of features of the report:

Such cases of hypnagogic hallucination are ordinary and non-pathological experiences which contents are not necessarily in connection with the subject of aliens and UFOs, but it sometimes is. Hypnagogic hallucination can happen to everyone, it is not an ordinary dream experience but a much more vivid experiment that seems well more "clear" than any ordinary dream or nightmare. Generally these experience do not leave any memory, but sometimes, waking-up occurs, particularly if the episode is close to the usual wake-up hour. Sometimes only one vague impressions remains that "something" outside the ordinary occurred during the night, and it is often ufologists practicing "hypnotic regression sessions" who bring back the whole episode to the conscious memory, which does make it any more a "real" experience.

In this case, essential information on the process of report by the witness is absent, and as the case stands now, it is not even possible to determine if the experience was recovered by hypnosis or if these were conscious memories. There is no investigation report to my knowledge, the case not going beyond the description of the experience. This is why, in the absence of essential information, it is probable that the experience was in fact such an episode of hypnagogic hallucination.
