Italian ufologists indicated that on December 15, 1978, according to newspaper sources, in the province of Catania, at 11:50 p.m., truck driver Angelo Capuzzello experienced radio failure and stopped on an emergency area of highway 514 near Licodia Eubea to repair it, when he encountered two humanoid beings about 2 meters tall dressed in tight-fitting coveralls and helmets. From a distance of about 5 meters, two bright beams of light were emitted from their helmets and illuminated the truck cabin. The witness heard that they talked in unintalligible sounds.
Another version indicates that the beings wore a sticking blue black outfit going down to the feet, on their heads they had a helmet with visor and their face was young, without a barb nor moustache, in the helmets openings was a strange apparatus and many "wires". Capuzzello tried to communicate with them by giving indications on the locality and obtained as only effect to make them return towards their "apparatus" which shortly rose in the sky and disappeared at high speed.
A few seconds later the truck driver saw a dome-shaped object take off with a bright flash, after that his radio worked normally. A strong smell of sulfur permeated the air.
Finally, the Italian TRACAT UFO traces catalogue says that footsteps traces left by two men with soles and of great size, comparable to European shoe size 54, were reported, but only by the witness, without any third party confirmation.

Richard Hall indicates the case as one of a major wave of UFO sightings in Italy during 1978, mostly in the period from October through the first few days of January 1979, with more than 500 cases on record, with at least 130 of them close encounters, 25 involving humanoid entities. These sightings led to unprecedented public discussion and debate, even in the Italian Parliament, and were essentially ignored by conventional news media in the United States.

From there he witnessed the landing of a flying object in the vegetation within approximately 70 meters of him. In this this direction he then saw two entities arrive and stop within one meter of the truck, dazzling the witnesses with two powerful luminous rays coming from their helmets. The two beings, more than 2.15 tall, talked to him in an unknown language. They wore a sticking blue black outfit going down to the feet, on their heads they had a helmet with visor and their face was young, without a barb nor moustache, in the helmets openings was a strange apparatus and many "wires". I still found other important cases of Close Encounters, which occurred in Italy during the the wave of 1978... and I report some here: December 15, 1978 Mr Angelo Capuzzello (aged 48) drove on board his van when the car radio suddenly ceased functioning: he then decided to stop on a service area. While he sought to turn the light on in the cabin, he suddenly could observe in any event a light similar "to that produced by an electric arc" and of cylindrical form landing in the vicinity. After a few minutes, 2 characters close from there arrived and went towards the witness, who, mistaking them for burglars, hid his money quickly. They stopped at 5/6 meters on the left side of the vehicle, while emitting by the dark helmets which they wore, 2 powerful beams of white light. Little after they approached up to a few centimetres the witness, so much so that the man had to look away because of the intensity of the lights; at the same time, he felt "emptied" of all his energy. The 2 creatures, both approximately 2.1 meters tall, then spoke in a language ignored by the witness, while making gestures; he, thinking that they asked him where they were, answered: "on the Catane - Ragusa highway". After having told something the beings turned themselves, while moving away. Capuzzello succeeds in seeing the characteristics of the character who was in front of the other one and who arrived enlightened by the other. Through the transparent helmet one saw the face of a "beautiful young man", with completely human features. He wore a dark blue outfit with gloves and shoes of the same color. The helmet was large and was proportion compared to the body: rounded behind, it was on the other hand flat in the front part. Where the ears would have been there were "devices" with a great number of wire. The two creatures made the same trip than when they arrived, still at a normal pace, then disappearing from sight in the darkness. After a few seconds, the witness heard a humming similar to the explosion of a firework, follow-up of a gleam identical to that observed previously. After what se saw, taking off vertically, an object with the shape of a cupola, of approximately 10 meters in diameter, which he called a "satellite". From its lower part part luminosity was diminishing downwards. It went out of the sight at an impressive speed. At the same time the car radio functioned again. The whole observation lasted approximately 6 minutes. The nest afternoon, the witness and a friend went on the place of the encounter; there they found there many "prints of feet" comparable to a size "54" with many small circles inside. |
