Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

A story of unknown primary source circulates in ufology bulletins then on the web, saying that on February 23, 1978 at 11:45 p.m. near Cesto Fiorentino, Firenze, Italy, a young man and his fiancee were in a car in the Morello mounts when the car's radio was suddenly disturbed by interferences.

The young man reportedly went out of the car and then found himself in a hot purple halation, and he had the feeling he saw four vague shapes and several lights around.

He was convinced he had stayed near the car, but when he went back into it he found his fiancee in tears because she had been left alone during 20 minutes. The radio functioned again.

Maurizio Verga indicates that on February 23, 1978 at 11:45 p.m. in Cesto Fiorentino, Firenze, a young man and his fiancee were in a car on mount Morella when the car's radio was suddenly disturbed by interferences.

The young man got out of the car and found himself in a hot purple halation, and he had the impression he saw four vague shapes and several lights around.

He was convinced he had stayed near the car, but when he returned to the car the young woman was criying because she had been left alone during 20 minutes. The radio functioned again.

The source is indicated as Notiziario UFO of October 1979.

John Schuessler indicates that on 1978/02/23 in Italy, Sesto, Fiorentino, at 2345, a man and woman in a car had interference on their radio. The man got out of the car and found himself enveloped in a warm violet light. He saw four shapes and lights all around. He walked around the car and got back in to find his girlfriend crying because he had been gone for 20 minutes.

John Schuessler lists as effects: Possible abduction; Time loss; Warmth from violet light; EM effect."

John Schuessler indicates that the source is "Italian UFO Report, No. 7, July 1988."

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy, on February 23, 1978, at 2345, a couple sitting in their car began receiving interference in their car stereo. The man exited the vehicle and found himself engulfed in a warm, violet light. He saw four "shapes" and lights around him. He then went back to his car where he found his girlfriend crying. A 20-minute time lapse was reported.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "Paolo Fiorino, UFO Universe October/November 1991."

The website indicates that on 23 February 1978 at 23:45 in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy, "A couple sitting in their car began receiving interference in their car stereo. ... Mr. and Mrs. Morello were sitting in their car in Sesto Fiorentino, Toscana, Italy listening to their car's stereo when they began getting heavy interference on the radio. Mr. Morello got out of the car to investigate and found himself engulfed in a warm, violet cloud of light. He saw four humanoid 'shapes' and other lights around him. He got back into his car where he found his wife crying. They had a twenty minute lapse of missing time they couldn't account for."

Points to consider:

The most initial information, quite poor and of unknown origin true, has given place to many citations, and a major distortion: the place where the car was, the Morello Mounds, became in some versions the witnesses name, "Mr. and Mrs. Morello", although the most initial source specified that the witnesses were fiancees and thus not married thus probably not sharing the same family name.

[mv1] spells the place "Cesto Fiorentino" instead of "Sesto Fiorentino" and "Morella" insead of "Morello"; these are likely misprints by the magazine's editor. [al1] lost the fact that the hour was reported as 11:45 p.m., not just 11:45 and this errors would make the reader believe it was a daylight event.
