DECEMBER 20, 1965, HERMAN, MINNESOTA, USA, EDWARD BURND:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Numerous ufology sources indicate that in Herman, Minnesota, on December 20, 1965, Edward Burns, or Burnd, was driving his dad's pickup truck toward home about 11:45 p.m. When he was five miles west and two miles south of Herman, about a quarter mile from the turn into the neighbor's farm, his headlights picked up a dark, oval-shaped object hovering about six feet over the road ahead of him.

He said the UFO covered the entire road and looked like a huge light, a mixture of red and white. He came within about a telephone pole distance of the object before he saw it, and then immediately the engine and lights on his pickup went out. He felt his truck moving and wound up in a ditch.

Some versions add that when he claimed that when looked at the UFO, he saw "something" inside moving about, shaped like a man, but all green.

In his catalogue of UFO landings, Jacques Vallée indicates that on December 20, 1965, in Herman, Minnesota, Edward Burnd, 15, was driving west in a farm truck when he saw an object 2 meters above the road about 30 meters away. "Next, we go to Herman, Minnesota on December 20, 1965: "15-year-old Edward Burns was driving his dad's pickup truck toward home about 11:45 p.m. When he was about a quarter mile from the turn into the neighbor's farm, his headlights picked up a dark, oval-shaped object hovering about six feet over the road ahead of him. He came within about a telephone pole distance of the object before he saw it, and then immediately the engine and lights on his pickup went out. He felt his truck moving and wound up in a ditch. As Edward looked at the UFO, he claims he saw 'something' inside moving about. That 'something,' he said, was shaped like a man - but was all green."

[Ref. mr1:] MARK RODEGHIER:

The ufologists lists that on December 20, 1965, at 23:45, in the U.S., near Hermann, Minnesota, a 15-year-old boy driving a pickup truck saw a UFO hovering six feet over the road. The source is indicated to be FSR for November-December, 1966.

[Ref. js1:] JOHN SCHUESSLER:

John Schuessler indicates that on 1965/12/20 at 23:45 near Herman, Minnesota, a boy driving a pickup truck spotted an object hovering six feet over the road. The truck's engine died. The object covered the entire road and looked like a huge light, a mixture of red, and white. He came within a telephone pole distance of the object and then immediately the engine and lights of his pickup went out. He felt his truck moving and wound up in a ditch. Points to consider:

It seems that the substance of the case is nothing mor than a short report probably without source in the bulletin Saucer News by James Modeley and Gray Barker, then recopied many times, without being investigated or checked.

Not only could the story have been invented by the youngster, it could have been invented by the Saucer News bulletin, and it could be seom interpretation error by the youngster facing some vehicle or farming machine with dazzling headlights on the road in the night. The information is not simply not sufficient at all to decide, and the "strangeness" is low to null.
