OCTOBER 4, 1965, RIO VISTA, CALIFORNIA, USA, BETTY VALDONE AND HER SON ROBBIE:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Summarized in several catalogues, the case appears actually to be only based probably on some newspaper or magazine, unknown, that wrote:

"A fantastic experience was reported on October 4, 1965 from Rio Vista, California by Mrs. Betty Valdone. Betty was outside at night with her 12-year-old son when they observed a large UFO, complete with a crew of three. According to Mrs. Valdone, the object was round, like a plate and had a dome on top. She said she could see three people at its windows. Robbie was the first to see the object over Rio Vista. It was in the glare of a searchlight and was in view a short time. Mrs. Valdone said that when she first sighted the object 'it looked as if it were moving toward earth, but I don't know about the speed. It looked pretty close to me.'"

Narratives:

[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:

In his catalogue of UFO landings, Jacques Vallée indicates that on October 4, 1965 in the evening in Rio Vista, California, Betty Valine and her 12-year-old son Robbie observed a large, plate-shaped machine with a dome on top, inside which three creatures were clearly visible. The witnesses did not see the object touch down.

Vallée indicates that his source is "FSR 66, 3."

[Ref. ia1:] IRA ADAMS:

Ira Adams compiled a number of newspaper clippings, and said that a fantastic experience was reported on October 4, 1965 from Rio Vista, California by Mrs. Betty Valdone. She was outside at night with her 12-year-old son when they observed a large UFO, complete with a crew of three. According to her, the object was round, like a plate and had a dome on top.

[Ref. ni1:] NICAP WEBSITE:

The website lists that on October 4, 1965, in Rio Vista, California, USA, Mrs. Betty Valdone was outside at night with her 12-year-old son, Robbie, when they observed a large UFO, complete with a crew of 3. The object was round and had a dome on top. She could see three people at its windows.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Rio Vista, California, on October 4, 1965, during the evening, Mrs. Betty Valine was sitting outside with her 12-year old son Robbie when they sighted a large plate shaped machine with a dome on top. Inside this dome stood three "people," plainly visible. No other information.

Albert Rosales indicates as source Jerome Clark, FSR Vol. 10 #3.

[Ref. ud1:] "UFODNA" WEBSITE:

The website indicates that on October 4, 1965, at 9 p.m., in Rio Vista, California, USA, Betty Valine and her 12-year-old son Robbie observed a large, plate-shaped machine with a dome on top, inside which three "people," or creatures were clearly visible. The witnesses did not see the object touch down.

The website adds that the disc was observed in a yard by two witnesses sitting outside, and that there is no other information.

The source are indicated as Webb, David, HUMCAT: Catalogue of Humanoid Reports; Data-Net Report; FSR (formerly Flying Saucer Review), London, 1966; Vallee, Jacques, A Century of Landings (N = 923), (in JVallee04), Chicago, 1969; Schoenherr, Luis, Computerized Catalog (N = 3173); Eberhart, George M., A Geo-Bibliography of Anomalies, Greenwood Press, Westport, 1980; Hatch, Larry, *U* computer database, Redwood City, 2002; Rosales, Albert, Humanoid Sighting Reports Database.

[Ref. an1:] ANONYMOUS ON THE WEB:

A web page of UFO sighting summaries quotes an unreferenced source indicating:

"A fantastic experience was reported on October 4, 1965, from Rio Vista, California by Mrs.

Points to consider:

"FSR volume 10 N.3" indicated as source by Albert Rosales cannot be a source for this issue is of May 1964, before the alleged sighting. " FSR 66,3 " indicated by Vallée would be Flying Saucer Review, volume 12, N.2, of March 1966.

It seems that the name of the witnesses is not "Valine" but "Valdone", and that the date of October 4, 1965 is the date on which the story appeared, and not inevitably the date of the sighting.
