Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Press sources indicate that on August 20, 1965, a flying saucer landed on a terrace of the Inca ruins of Sacsahuaman, near Cuzco, Peru.

Two dwarves, with vertical mouths and whose eyes were glowing, then came out of their saucer, and that these revelations were made by tourists who visited the ruins.

According to ufology sources the creatures were of weird shape and luminous, the flying saucer had only 1.5 meters in diameter and when the creatures saw the tourists that watched them, they immediately went back inside and the saucer took off and flew away towards the West.

Ufology sources indicate that the witnesses included engineer Aberto Ugarte, his wife, and Elwin Vogter.

This French regional newspaper published on August 24, 1965, that according to a newsbrief by Agence France Presse, a flying saucer is said to have landed "last Friday" in the Inca ruins of Sacsahuaman, near Cuzco, in the South-East of Peru.

The newspaper adds that two dwarfs, with vertical mouths and whose eyes were glowing, then came out of their saucer, and that these revelations were made by tourists who visited the ruins.

[Ref. gc1:] GORDON CREIGHTON:

Gordon Creighton, the editor of the famous Flying Saucer Review, reports for the compilation by Charles Bowen, that in Cuzco in Peru, on August 20, 1965, shortly after midday, many people, including engineer Alberto Ugarte and his wife as well as a certain Elwin Votger, saw a tiny disc landing on the terrace of the old Inca fortress of Sacsahuaman, just outside Cuzco. This disc had approximately 1 meter 50 of width, it was of a shining silver color. Two small beings "of a strange form emerged, shining of a violent glare." When these being discovered that there were so many people in the surroundings, they immediately returned in the disc, which flew away fast and disappeared towards the West.

Creighton indicates that his sources are La Prensa, of Lima, for August 23, 1965, Noticias Populares, of Sao Paulo, for August 24, 1965, and La Razon, of Buenos Aires, in August 1965.

The Lorenzens indicate that engineer Alberto Ugarte and his wife and a Senor Elwin Voter, shortly before noon on August 20, 1965, saw two "little folk" small enough to fit into a silvery disc about five feet in diameter, while the three were sightseeing at the Inca ruins just outside Cuzco, Peru. They indicate that the disc landed on a terrace of the Inca stone fortress and that the entities who emerged were "small beings of strange shape and dazzling brightness" that seemed surprised at the presence of the witnesses, got into the disc and departed hastily into the west.

Jacques Vallée indicates as case 683 of his UFO landings catalog that on August 20, 1965 at 11:50 in Cuzco, Peru, several tourists, including Alberto Ugarte and Elwin Voter, observed a strange craft landing near the Inca ruins that they were visiting. Two creatures described as luminous dwarfs, who seemed to have "vertical mouths," were seen briefly. Vallée indicates Bowen's book "The Humanoids" as source.

Albert Rosales reports in his catalogue that near Cuzco, Peru, on August 20, 1965, at 1150 a.m., a group of people, including Mr. and Mrs Alberto Ugarte, and Edwin Voter, observed a small disc, only 5' in diameter, and of a vivid silvery color, land on a terrace of Sacsahuaman. From it there emerged two beings "of strange shape and dazzling brightness." They at once went back inside into their vehicle, which then flew off.

Albert Rosales indicates as source "The Humanoids and Apro Bulletin Jan/Feb 1966."

The website indicates that on August 20, 1965, at 11:50, in Cuzco, Peru, luminous dwarfs were seen near a strange craft. Several tourists, including Alberto Ugarte and Elwin Voter, observed a strange craft landing near the Inca ruins that they were visiting. Two creatures described as luminous dwarfs, who seemed to have "vertical mouths," were seen briefly.

Points to consider:

Obvious lack of data and apparently lack of investigation report about this case make it impossible to give much credence to it.

It appears from the spare sources I could find that distortion played its part: how it is that the AFP information speaks of creature whose eyes were glowing, while later ufology sources claim that the entire creatures were luminous?

The name of the second male witness leaves me dubious. "Elwin" might really be "Edwin" or "Emil" and "Voter" or "Vogter" might be "Vogt" or "Vogel". While "Edwin Vogel" makes some sense, "Elwin Voter" seems really phoney to me.

Come to think about the size of the disc, reported by ufology sources as of 1.5 meters in diameter approximately. A disc is supposedly flatter than a sphere. With an unknown aspect ratio, it is hard to evaluate much, but this would seem as if the "small men" were then of a few inches tall to "fit in" the disc. It is also possible that the original reports in South American newspapers were distorted in this respect also.
