Coming apparently from unspecified journalistic source or sources and appearing with various distortions in several ufologic sources, a case seems to have taken place in Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA, at a date which seems to be on August 8, 1965 but was sometimes given as the 9th or the 10th.
The principal witnesses seem to be three Grand Forks women all aged 21, Sylvia Hoffman, Becky Evanston, and Becky Aanstad. They stopped their car along Belmont Road close to the golf green of Lincoln Park at approximately 11:30 p.m. to contemplate what they believed to be "a 'gorgeous' harvest moon nestled down for the night in the Lincoln Park golf course".
But a moment later they noted with amazement than the moon was in fact in the west of the sky behind them. Sylvia Hoffman indicated that the object that they had taken initially for the moon was circular and transparent, a block of houses and half away into the golf course from the gasoline pumping station close to the 15th Avenue South.
She said that it blinked in black and white, and that see small figures were visible inside, but only in silhouette, not clearly.
Becky Swanson indicated that the object seemed to her "just like the moon when it's huge and yellow - a clear yellow kind of. Something was moving inside like a silhouette."
Becky Swanson indicated that three men, whom the young women did not know, had also stopped their car too and also observed the object.
Sylvia Hoffman said to the Press: "We said what is it? They said we saw this light in the sky. I don't know if they saw it come down. They talked as though they thought it came from the sky."
The woman said they also talked with a boy and a girl on a motorbike who also saw the object. A cyclist directed his light on the object while another young person ran towards him, his silhouette being visible. The cyclist told the women that they saw a small red light on the object and that when the light was in a certain direction it "looked like the object would bounce and roll in that direction"
The three men told the women that when somebody ran towards the object, it had seemed as if it would never be reached, and that all of a sudden he heard a bang, then a noise, and "it just blew up kind of."

In his catalogue of UFO landings, Jacques Vallée indicates that on August 9, 1965, at 11:30 p.m., in Grand Forks, North Dakota, three girls driving a car observed what they first thought was the rising moon. It was a circular, pale-yellow object, with a silhouette moving inside the glow. There were five other witnesses one of whom stated that as he approached the object, it appeared to "blow up" with a bang.

[Ref. ia1:] IRA ADAMS:
Ira Adams compiled a number of newspaper clippings, one of them from North Dakota said, among other things, that on August 10, 1965, a UFO on a golf course disappeared when approached.
Three young Grand Forks girls pulled their car over along Belmont Road about 11:30 p.m. Sunday to admire what they said at first looked like a 'gorgeous' harvest moon nestled down for the night in the Lincoln Park golf course. They were stunned a moment later when they noticed the moon in the western sky behind them. Sylvia Hoffman said the object, which she described as circular and transparent, was about a block and a half into the golf course from the pumping station near 15th Ave. South. 'It blinked black and white,' she said, and 'you could see little figures inside.' The figures, she added, could not be distinguished clearly.
Becky Swanson said the object looked to her 'just like the moon when it's huge and yellow - a clear yellow kind of. Something was moving inside like a silhouette.' Becky said three men, none of whom the girls could identify, had also stopped their car when the girls drove up and were also watching the object.
"'We said what is it?' Miss Hoffman said. 'They said we saw this light in the sky. I don't know if they saw it come down. They talked as though they thought it came from the sky.' The girls also talked with a boy and a girl on a motorcycle who also saw the object. The cyclist shined his light on the object as the other youth ran toward , and the youth's silhouette could be seen. The cyclist told the girls they saw a little red light on the object and that when the light pointed in one direction 'it looked like the object would bounce and roll in that direction.' The three men, who had also been watching, told the girls when ran it 'seemed like he never got any closer to it. All of a sudden he heard a bang, then a noise,' Miss Hoffman said, and 'it just blew up kind of.'"

The website lists that on August 10, 1965, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA, three girls, including Sylvia Hoffman, pulled their car over along Belmont Road at about 11:30 p.m. to look at what first appeared to be a "gorgeous" harvest moon over the Lincoln Park golf course.
However, the moon was in the sky behind them. The object was described by Hoffman as circular and transparent, blinking black and white, with little figures inside. The figures could not be distinguished, they were mere silhouettes. Other witnesses also observed the phenomenon.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on August 8, 1965, at 2330, Sylvia Hoialman [Hoffman], 21, Becky Evanston, 21, and Becky Aanstad, 21, were driving near the Lincoln Park Golf Course when they saw a yellow-luminous object that they took at first for the moon. It "blinked black and white" and the silhouettes of several little figures could be seen inside. Three men in a nearby car also saw the object; a 16 year old boy ran toward it and the object disappeared with a bang.
