FEBRUARY 21, 1965, CHALAC, FORMOSA, ARGENTINA, 50 PERSONS:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Not too cautious Flying Saucer Review editor Gordon Creighton published that in Chalac, near Formosa, Argentina-Paraguay frontier, on February 21, 1965, several saucers were seen in flight, and one landed in front of some 50 Indians of the Toba tribe who "stood amazed" as three tall beings enveloped in luminous haloes descended from the craft and approached slowly. The Indians allegedly knelt and "worshipped them with arms uplifted in the traditional Sun-worshipping ceremony of their ancestors." This was reportedly coming from Cordoba for February 25, 1965.

The Indians heard a voice, coming either from the beings or the craft, saying that they should not fear because "the Space People would soon return to convince Earthmen of their existence, and to bring peace to the world."

One Indian attempted to approach the machine and was dissuaded from it with gestures, then the visitors slowly returned to the machine, bathed all the time in luminous beams "emanating from its small wings", and took off in blinding luminosity.

It is also claimed that Argentine police officials were also witnesses and took "a number of photographs" of the craft; which of course are nowhere to be seen as far as I know.

Gordon Creighton noted that "it was suggested", in the USA he believes, I think probably by some APRO or NICAP people who did not buy the story of the Peaceful Space People, that the story is bogus, but Senor Oscar A. Galindez, Flying Saucer Review's special correspondent in Argentina, allegedly made "careful enquiries and states that it is genuine" and the photos were "probably" taken of three landed craft and five crew members near them.

Creighton claimed that in July 1965, Galindez knew the name of the senior Air Force official who had custody of the photos, and told him this name, but in the meantime "of course" the usual "Curtain of Silence" has descended, which is certainly a fact since Creighton apparently never gave the name of this "senior Airforce Official".

Of course the dubious story was then simply copied over and over in UFO catalogues, but nothing really new and verified surfaced since.

[Ref. cg1:] GORDON CREIGHTON:

Gordon Creighton indicates that in Chalac, near Formosa, Argentina-Paraguay frontier, on February 21, 1965, several saucers were seen in flight, and one landed. Some 50 Indians of the Toba tribe stood amazed as three tall beings enveloped in luminous haloes descended from the craft and approached slowly. The Indians knelt and worshipped them with arms uplifted in the traditional Sun-worshipping ceremony of their ancestors. They heard a voice, coming from the visitors or the craft, saying that they should not fear because the Space People would soon return to convince Earthmen of their existence, and to bring peace to the world. One Indian attempted to approach the machine and was dissuaded from it with gestures. The visitors then slowly returned to the machine, bathed all the time in luminous beams emanating from its small wings. The machine took off with its luminosity becoming blinding.

Argentine police officials were also witnesses, and took a number of photographs of the machine.

Gordon Creighton notes that it was suggested, in the USA he believes, that this story is bogus, but Senor Oscar A. Galindez, Flying Saucer Review's special correspondent in Argentina, made careful enquiries and states that it is genuine and the photos were probably taken of three landed craft and five crew members near them.

In July 1965, Senor Galindez knew the name of the senior Air Force official who had custody of the photos, and told Creighton this name, but in the meantime "of course" the usual Curtain of Silence has descended, and the usual smoke-screens are encountered.

Creighton notes that is has also been said that the Chalac entities were small, but Oscar Galindez assured him that all the Argentine press accounts said they were large.

[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:

In his catalogue of UFO landings, Jacques Vallée indicates that on February 21, 1965, at 09:00 p.m. in Chalac, Argentina, about 50 Toba Indians, including policemen, saw three little men with luminous glows emerge from an object that had made several low passes over the village with other flying craft. A photographer took several pictures and noted that the creatures feared the light from his flash camera. The object increased in luminosity as it took off.

Vallée indicates that his source is "CODOVNI; FSR 65, 4."

[Ref. jc1:] JAMES MCCAMPBELL:

The author indicates that a policeman in Chalac, Argentina, along with about 50 Toba Indians, saw three little men getting out of a UFO. One of the witnesses started taking flash pictures of them and noticed that they were afraid of the bright light.

The source is indicated as "case 637."

84. February 21, 1965. The Toba tribe of Argentina/Paraguay's Frontier at Chalas [sic, Chalac] performed a sun-worshipping ceremony for halo-enveloped entities. A voice tells them not to fear. The Space People would soon reveal themselves to Earthmen and bring peace to the world.

The source is indicated as "Bowen, Charles The Humanoids Henry Regnery, 1969 p. 110."

[Ref. bh1:] ROBERT E. BARTHOLOMEW ET GEORGE S. HOWARD:

The authors indicate that on February 21, 1965, in Chalac, near Formosa, on the Argentina-Paraguay frontier, one of several saucers seen in flight landed, and about fifty Toba Indians, along with Argentine police, allegedly watched as three tall beings came down from the craft and slowly approached. The Indians knelt, praising them with uplifted arms in the traditional sun-worshiping ceremony of their ancestors, and heard a voice from either the beings or their craft that said they should not fear, for the space people would soon return to convince Earthmen of their existence and bring peace.

One Indian attempted to approach the machine but was dissuaded by gestures. The creatures were all the time enveloped in luminous halos and slowly returned to the saucer. Luminous beams seemed to emanate from small wings on the craft, and its luminosity became blinding as it took off.

Several photos were reportedly taken.

The authors indicate that the sources are Gordon Creighton, "The Humanoids in Latin America," in Charles Bowen, ed., The Humanoids, Great Britain, Futura, 1977, page 110, citing the publication Cordoba for February 25, 1965 and the Flying Saucer Review 11, 30, July/August 1965.

[Ref. go1:] GODELIEVE VAN OVERMEIRE:

The ufologist indicates that in 1965, on February 21, in Argentina in Chalac, close to the border between Argentina and Paraguay, several saucers were seen in flight and one of them landed. Some 50 Indians of the tribe of Toba remained confused while three beings of tall size, wrapped luminous halations, came down from the craft and approached slowly. The Indians knelt and paid homage to them, arms raised according to the tradition of the ceremony of worship of the Sun of their ancestors. They then heard a voice which came from the creatures of the craft saying that they were not to be afraid, for Space People would soon return to convince the Earthlings of their existence and to bring peace to the world. An Indian who tried to approach the craft was dissuaded by gestures. The visitors then slowly returned to the craft, bathed during this time in the luminous rays which came from the small wings of the craft. The apparatus flew away, its luminosity became dazzling. Argentinean police officers were there and took a certain number of photographs of the craft.

The source is indicated as Charles Bowen: "En quête des humanoïdes", J'ai Lu, 1974, page 134.

[Ref. jr1:] JEAN-PAUL RONECKER:

The author indicates that in Chalac, close to Formosa, at the border Argentina-Paraguay, on February 21, 1965, according to "Cordoba" for February 25, 1965 and Flying Saucer Review for July-August 1965, a UFO landed in the vicinity, with about fifty Indians of the Toba tribe attending flabbergasted the event and observing three beings of high size, wrapped of a luminous halation, who went down from the apparatus and approached slowly. The Indians knelt and paid homage to the aliens from the sky, the arms raised, according to the antique tradition of worship of the Sun of their ancestors. One of the beings their then said not to be afraid, that the "Space People" would soon return to convince mankind of their existence and to bring peace to the world. One of the Indians, boldest than the others, tried to approach the apparatus but was dissuaded by gestures. The visitors then went up in their machine which flew away while becoming very luminous.

[Ref. dj1:] DONALD JOHNSON:

Donald Johnson indicates that on February 21, 1965, at least 50 members of the Toba Indian tribe in Chalac, Formosa Province, Argentina watched as a group of UFOs were seen flying overhead at around 9 p.m. One of the craft, bathed constantly in light beams emanating from small wing-like projections, landed in a pasture, and three tall beings enveloped in luminous halos emerged, causing the local population to go down on their knees. The beings approached slowly, with gestures that dissuaded one of the Indians from coming any closer to the UFO. A voice was then heard, telling the witnesses to remain calm for there was nothing to fear, and that the space people would return to bring peace on earth. The humanoids then returned to their craft, which then took off with a blinding luminosity. Photographs were said to have been taken by local police officers.

The sources are indicated as "Local police and FSR Vol. 11 # 4."

The sources are separately indicated as Donald B. Hanlon, Flying Saucer Review, March-April 1966, p. 16; Gordon Creighton, The Humanoids: FSR Special Edition No. 1, p. 39; David F. [Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Chalac, Formosa, Argentina, on February 21, 1965, at 21:00, a group of UFOs were seen flying overhead for a while and then one landed. Three tall beings enveloped in luminous halos emerged, causing the local population, fifty Toba Indians, to go down on their knees. The beings approached slowly, with gestures dissuading one Indian from approaching the UFO. Then a voice was heard telling the witnesses to remain calm, for there was nothing to fear, and that the space people would return to bring peace on earth. The humanoids then returned to their craft, bathed all the time in beams of light emanating from small wing-like projections; it then took off with blinding luminosity. Photographs were said to have been taken by local police officers.

Albert Rosales indicates as sources the local police and FSR Vol. 11 #4.

The website indicates that on February 21, 1965, at 09:00 p.m. there was an incident in Chalac, Argentina, at the Toba Tribe. Three little men with luminous glows emerged from an object that had made several low passes over the village with other flying craft, seen by about 50 Toba Indians, including policemen. A photographer, took several pictures and noted that the creatures feared the light from his flash camera. The object increased in luminosity as it took off.

A second summary indicates that on object was observed by a male witness, Galindez, in a pasture and a cyclops was seen, a group of UFOs were seen flying overhead for a while and then one landed. [Ref. bo1:] VICENTE-JUAN BALLESTER-OLMOS:

The ufologist indicates that on February 21, 1965, at 09:00 p.m., in Chalac, Formosa, Argentina, a number of photographs of a flying saucer were taken by unknown policemen. The flying saucer landed and some 50 Indians of the Toba tribe stood amazed as three tall beings enveloped in luminous haloes descended from the craft.

It was a bogus story, probably a newspaper invention, as per Roberto Enrique Banchs.
