Summarized stories arrived at english-speaking ufologists desks from local ufological sources indicate that in the night of October 10, 1957, in Quebracôco, Brazil, a naval officer, Miguel Espanhol, and a companion, were driving a truck towards Ceres, when they encountered a huge UFO which was initially high in the sky and bathed all the area in light. This UFO came down and the engine of the truck stopped.
The witnesses estimated that the UFO was at least 170 meters of width and 40 meters in thickness, it was oval or lens-shaped, with some sort of antenna at its top that carried a red light at its end.
The UFO then extinguished all its lights, an opening appeared, showing a red interior, and seven small beings similar to the humans but children-sized, with long hair and dressed of partly luminous suits appeared in this opening, initially two, then two more, again two more and finally a seventh. These beings looked at the witnesses in silence during approximately three minutes.
The UFO then took off, releasing a small disc which left towards the north while the large UFO moved towards the south.
The sighting seems to have been described in the press and the Brazilian group of ufology SBDEV animated by Dr. Walter Buhler apparently investigated, but the reports published in the braizilian ufological bulletins of the time do not seem available easily nowadays.

[Ref. gc1:] GORDON CREIGHTON:
Gordon Creighton indicates that on the night of October 10, 1957, Spanish naval officer Miguel Espanol and a companion were traveling by truck to Ceres. They encountered a huge, or "tremendous" UFO. The UFO was initially high in the sky and bathed the whole region in light, then it descended and the truck's engine stalled.
The witnesses thought the craft was at least 170 meters wide and 130 meters Its shape was oval or saucer-shaped, and there was a long sort of antenna projecting from its dome and topped by a red light.
The UFO then switched off all its dazzling lights and the two men saw seven completely human-looking small beings, the size of kids, with long hair and clad in luminous suits, appear in an open hatch of the craft and gaze down at them silently for about three minutes.
The UFO then flew off, releasing a small disc. This small disc disappeared northwards, while the big UFO went south.
Creighton indicates that his sources are "Folha da Manhâ", of Rio de Janeiro, for Octobrer 1957, the U.F.O. Critical Bulletin of Sao Paolo, the Flying Saucer Review for May/June 1958, and the S.B.E.D.V. Bulletin #9 of 1959 and #26-27 for April/July 1962.
Creighton notes that S.B.D.E.V. indicates that the big UFO did not land but hovered while the three other sources tell of a landing, and he comments that probably the S.B.D.E.V reports by Dr. Buhler are more accurate.
[Ref. lo1:] CORAL AND JIM LORENZEN:
The authors indicate that a Spanish naval officer, Miguel Espanol, and a companion, claimed that on the night of October 10, 1957, they saw a huge oval or saucer-shaped object which stalled the truck in which they were riding, then hovered, during which time they could clearly see the seven occupants through an open hatch. They had luminous suits, long hair, and diminutive size.
[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:
In his UFO landings catalog, Jacques Vallée indicates that in the night of October 10, 1957 in Quebracoco, Brazil, naval officer Miguel Espanhol and another man, traveling to Ceres, saw a bright object that illuminated the countryside and came down to ground level as the truck stalled. It was oval or saucer-shaped, over 150 meters in diameter and 40 meters deep, with a dome supporting a long "aerial" with a red light on top. The bright light went off and the witnesses saw seven childlike beings, with long hair and luminous suits, who looked down at them for about 3 minutes. The craft flew south and released a smaller disk, which flew north. Vallée indicates "Humanoids 36 ; F.S.R. 58, 3, 24" as sources.
[Ref. hd1:] HENRI DURRANT:
Henri Durrant quotes the Brazilian ufologist Dr. Olavo Fontes, correspondent of the North-American ufology group APRO, as having evoked the case for the first time in Flying the Saucer Review vol. XIII, n° 5, pp. 5 and 6.
The event occurred in the night of October 10, 1957 and Henri Durrant reproduces a part of it only: a door opened in the object, and two people appeared, then two others, then two others still, and finally a seventh, which passed between the two groups formed by the others.
These people monitored the truck of the witness during three minutes. They totally resembled humans of the Earth, but they were of smaller size, with long hair down the shoulders, and clothing that was luminous on the chest.
When these small men looked at the witness, he entered a state similar to a trance and experienced the weird feeling that were telling him "we come in a peaceful mission."
Durrant notes that Olavo Fontes had noted the case without giving it too much credence because he was skeptic about allegations of telepathy; Fontes recorded the case in his file because it had similarities with another case that occurred 15 days before.
[Ref. hd1:] BRENT RAYNES:
In an article, Brent Raynes indicates that on the night of October 10, 1957, near Quebra, Coco, Brazil, a Spanish Navy officer's truck was reportedly approached by a huge, blinding lens-shaped object estimated to have 500 feet in diameter. The craft came within some 20 feet of the ground and the officer's truck engine died.
The UFO extinguished its lights, except for a reddish glow on a long antenna-looking structure on the top of the object. Then a door opened on the UFO and a red light emanated from the interior of the object.
Seven long-haired men appeared at the door of the UFO and stepped outside for some three minutes and gazed in the witness' direction.
Then they returned inside the craft; which rose into the air to an estimated 1600 feet, released a small disk that flew north, at which time the larger UFO headed south.
It would be of uttermost interest to know exactly what the reports by the ufology group SBDEV indicate on this interesting high strangeness case. Obviously the report by Olavo Fontes lets see a richer experience than the summaries published in the English then French ufological literature.
Apparently later sources have confused the name of the witness, "Miguel Espanhol" or "Español" with an "espagnol", i.e., Spanish nationality.
