Mrs Porta reported to sightings, the first occurred as she rode a motorbike between Ceret and Boulou, the Pyrénées Orientales, France, on February 4, 1955, at 07:25 p.m., going home after work.
She saw in the middle of a vineyard at the edge of the road, four green blue fires of horizontal rectangular form with rounded corners, laid out in an arc and seeming to be 1.50 meters above ground-level.
50 meters further, she saw two rather tall men standing in the road's ditch. She saw no detail of them.

[Ref. mf1:] MICHEL FIGUET:
In a listing of cases of close encounters of the third kind that are to be considered very doubtful, the French ufologist notes a case with with dates "04.02.1955", i.e. February 4, 1955, the location is "between Ceret and Le Boulou", and the description is "Witness of two CE3."
[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:
Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that near Ceret, Pyrenees Orientales, France, on February 4, 1955, at 1925, Mme Porta, coming back from work on a "mobylette," saw in the middle of a roadside vineyard four blue green lights of horizontal rectangular shape with rounded corners, arranged in an arc and seeming to be 5 ft above the ground. 50 yards farther on, two fairly tall men were standing motionless in a roadside ditch; she could see no details.
Albert Rosales indicates that the source is R. Vidal LDLN, #100 and Humcat 1955-28.
The observation is relatively vague, I do not refuse to think at the simple reading that this can be a matter of some rather ordinary confusion. Other elements exist to still reduce the strangeness of the observation:
The article by R. Vidal in Lumières Dans La Nuit #100 indicated as source in [ar1] relates to another observation by the same witness in the same area but on August 22, 1956. Mrs. Porta said she saw four strange motorcyclists, and this became a ufology case. This is what explains why Michel Figuet [mf1] notes that the witness claimed two CE3, the dubious nature of the case appearing to me not only from the fact there were two sightings, but especially because the second is that of four motorcyclists, nothing really strange, an observation for which it seems to me that a very strong imagination is required to think that they were UFO occupants and not just motocyclists.
Sketch made according to witness statements of the four motorcyclists she saw on August 22, 1956. |
