Dr. Sergio Cervera, of Cuba, founder of the first ufology group on the island, CIFA, wrote in 1959 a catalog of Cuban cases.
The first case he recorded there, dated 1930, was reported by Mrs. Arcadia Alvarez, whose father, Dr. M. T., was Captain of the Cuban Navy.
Going down the Güines road towards Havana after midnight, the headlights of Dr. M. T.'s car illuminated a small man, 3-feet-tall, in the middle of the road.
Thinking that it was a lost child, Dr. M.T. stopped to offer his help. As he approached, he tried to bring the child back into the darkness of the night, and found out that it was impossible to move him, as if he were made of lead.
Surprised, the captain continued his journey. Around 1951, Dr. M.T. also witnessed a bright light landing near a bridge in the vicinity of Cojímar.

1930: According to Mrs. Arcadia Alvarez, her father, Dr. M.T., was a captain in the Cuban Navy. As he drove down the road from Güines heading toward Havana after midnight, his car's headlights illuminated a little man some three feet tall standing in the middle of the road. Thinking it was a lost child, Dr. M.T. stopped to offer assistance. Getting closer, he tried to pick up the child in the dark of night only to find it was impossible to move, as though it were made of lead. Startled, the captain continued his journey. 8. According to one of Dr. Sergio Cervera's reports for the pre-revolutionary period, a lady named Sra. Arcadia Alvarez said that her father, Dr. M-T-, who was at the time a Captain in the Cuban Navy, was travelling at around midnight along the highway from Guines to Havana at a date in 1930 when he saw on the road ahead of him. shown up by his headlights, "a little man about 3ft. high. Thinking it must be some lost child, the doctor pulled up to investigate. He approached the "child" and attempted to pick it up but was unable to raise it at all for it seemed to weigh like lead!" Shaken, he went back to his car and drove on. Later, in 1951, this "Dr, M.T." was an eyewitness of the landing of a brilliantly shining object near a bridge at Cojimar. |

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that near Guines, Cuba, in 1930, at midnight, "The witness, a naval officer at the time, was enroute to Havana alone in his car when the headlights suddenly illuminated a two-foot tall figure standing on the roadway. Thinking that it was a lost child he stopped the car and approached the figure on foot. It was dark and the witness could not see any features, he then attempted to pick up the figure but found that he could not, since it was extremely heavy as if made out of lead. Frightened the witness ran back into his vehicle and left the area at high speed."

TESTIMONIALS OF UFO SIGHTINGS IN CUBA1930: Province of Havana. Guines. Time: 12.p.m. According to Ms. Arcadia Alvarez, her father, Dr. M.T., who was a captain of the Cuban Navy, was coming by the Guines road towards Havana, after midnight, when his car lanterns illuminated a little man about three feet tall. The doctor thought he was a lost child and, surprised to find a child at that time in these places, decided to stop. He got out of the vehicle and approached the "child", trying to lift it off the ground, but could not move it because it weighed "as if it were lead." Impressed and dismayed by the encounter with that little man, he left him there, boarded his car and continued his march. Later, by the year 1951, Dr. M.T. also witnessed the landing of a strange object with very bright light near the bridge in Cojimar. [... other cases...] |

TESTIMONIOS DE AVISTAMIENTOS DE OVNI’S EN CUBA1930: Provincia de la Habana. Guines. Hora: 12.p.m. [... other cases...] |

1930. 2350hrs.GUINES (MAYABEQUE : CUBA) A naval captain was driving from Guines to Havama when his headlights caught a small figure in the centre of the road. Thinking it was a lost child, he stopped. Because it was now in shadow, he could only make out that it was about 90cm tall and muscular. He tried to pick up the thing but found that it was rock like and too heavy to lift. He fled the scene. Bord 1997 p69 citing Robiou 1979) |
Dr. Sergio Cervera was the first Cuban ufologist, founder in Miami in the USA of the "Comisión Investigadora de Fenómenos Aéreos" (CIFA).
He wrote in 1959 a "Chronology of Cuban cases".
The case is quite atypical, and suffers from obvious problems (see the List of Issues below), the most important being that the "entity" is hardly described. A description would have helped to get an idea of what the being really was - if the story is true - but there is nothing except the strangeness of its weight.
The reference of Albert Rosales [ar1], "Dr. Sergio Cervera" is indigent. At least it is the primary source. That of Peter Rogerson [pr1] "1997 Edge p69" is just as indigent: it is probably a book by Janet and Colin Bord, British collectors of mysterious stories, so a source far from being a primary source. But which one of their many books? Most likely "Moderm Mysteries of the World", but it was first published in 1989...
The reference "Robiou" quoted by the Bords according to Peter Rogerson is probably Sebastián Robiou Lamarche [rl1], a Puertorican ufologist, FSR correspondant in the early years.
