ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Barr, on December 25, 2019:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2019-12-25-BARR-1

Summary:

R. G. reported to the website OVNI-France his observation in the company of another person in Barr in the Bas-Rhin department on December 25, 1919, of a "Red and orange-yellow light sometimes remaining stationary":

"On the evening of December 25, 2019 in Barr (67140), myself and a friend were on a sidewalk at the intersection of avenue des Vosges and rue de la promenade about 20 m from the level crossing (measurement google map) we were able to observe in the sky towards the northeast of where we were a red light of which a small part which seemed to be the top of this object was orange-yellow. The red light was moving below the clouds without any sound! We first thought it was a Chinese lantern, because we had had the opportunity to see it several times, but the dimensions did not correspond to it, nor its behavior. Indeed, the phenomenon remained stationary for a few seconds before advancing towards the southwest and it disappeared. We were each able to photograph it with our mobile phone but the image on our mobiles does not reflect what our eyes saw exactly: we can't distinguish the color, nor the same size, I tried to film it but it was clear that it was not saved on my phone. Maybe a handling error..."

"The sighting lasted about 35 seconds; we managed to note that it was 9:40 p.m. precisely."

Discussion:

Map.

For lack of details and quantitative data such as an angular size, the phenomenon remains unidentified, but its strangeness does not appear to be high.

Evaluation:
