ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Uberach, on August 10, 2013:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2013-08-10-UBERACH-1

Summary:

On August 19, 2013, an 18-year-old man registered on a ufology web forum to ask whether there were other witnesses of his observation on August 10, 2013, about 11 p.m., over Uberach.

The witness said that "a ball of red color" had appeared and moved very slowly with little nervous movements. He then said in the plural that "they change directions several times in the area" before taking the direction to Haguenau.

Forum participants informed the witness about Chinese lanterns. I noticed that there was a wedding that day in Pfaffenhoffen, less than 2 km in the southeast of Uberach.

Hellos to all, I start the subject to launch a call for witnesses on the night of August 10, 2013.

Type of observation: Visual

Color and shape of the object: Red ball

Move of the object: Slow and little shaky movements

Indeed in the night of August 10, 2013 approximately 11 p.m. above Uberach (at 15 minutes from Hagenau) a ball or red color mad its appearance. It moves very slow with little nervous movements, they change directions several times in that area before taking the direction of Hagenau.

Did someone see the same phenomenon during that night? Thanks for you answers.

Welcome to you Wolff fhd It is indeed fairly common to come across lanterns in the Haguenau and Wissembourg area but before any hasty conclusion, we will analyze as much as it it possible your statement after completing the form suggested by Neo17 :-)

Discussion:

Map.

On Saturday, August 10, 2013, there was a wedding in Pfaffenhoffen, less than 2 km in the south-east of Uberach, reported in the newspaper "Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace."

Since the mid-2000s, it is very common to release Chinese lanterns in Alsace, at wedding parties for example.

I am unable for now to "scientifically prove" that this observation is explained by Chinese lanterns, but I do not think anyone could prove that this was something alien or something paranormal. The sighting report, quite sketchy (one or more lights?) opposes nothing to an explanation by Chinese lanterns.

The witness did not comment the possible explanation, and did not care to fill in the web forum's relevant form as suggested by the forum team. This is possibly because he understood that he saw Chinese lanternes.

Chinese lantern.

Above: a Chinese lantern.

Evaluation:

Probable Chinese lanterns.
