ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Haguenau, on December 5, 2011:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2011-12-05-HAGUENAU-1

Summary:

An article in the regional newspaper Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace on December 10, 2011, had reported that some people in the north Alsace had witnessed the same phenomenon and had described it in the same terms.

A female reader of Haguenau told the newspaper that on Monday, December 5, 2011, about 6 p.m., while walking home, she had seen in the sky, in the east, a ball of fire "the size of a large grapefruit", quite luminous.

A UFO and paranormal blog then wonderered if it was a meteorite or a UFO.

"Article published in the Saturday, December 10, 2011, issue Bas-Rhin North of Alsace.

A meteorite in the north-Alsace sky? They are several women who witnessed the same phenomenon, and describe it in the same terms. Since the beginning of the week, many readers told us they saw on Monday, December 5 at the end of the afternoon, a strange phenomenon in the northeast Alsatian sky. "It was approximately 6 p.m., says one of them from Haguenau. I went home by foot when I saw in the sky, in the east, a fireball the size of a large grapefruit. It was quite bright... Discussion:

Map.

There were several reports of that meteor, in Alsace and elsewhere.

There is no reason at all to claim it could have been "a UFO".

Evaluation:

Meteor.
