ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Saverne, on August 6, 2005:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2005-08-06-SAVERNE-1

Summary:

In a list of "latest observations", the "UFOweb" web forum published a testimony saying that in August 6, 2005, at 11:30 p.m., someone observed a bright trace in the sky, "of a very bright blue color. The path was approximately South of Strasbourg to Saverne."

The person "observed this fact for about 2-3 seconds" then the light split in two, one part continuing the path and the other, smaller, leaving the path.

The witness wrote that it is "difficult to explain this extraordinary event" that it was the second of this kind he observed, the other taking place in the spring of the same year.

Discussion:

Map.

With this duration typical of big shooting stars or small meteors, it can be supposed that was just one of those things, breaking into two during re-entry into the atmosphere.

Evaluation:

Probable meteor.
