ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Mutzig, about 1998:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1998-00-00-MUTZIG-1

Summary:

On October 3, 2009, Philippe, from Saintes in the Charente-Maritime or currently from "the center of France", wrote on the ufology forum "Les Mystères des OVNIS" to introduce himself to the members. He told he is 53 years old (but elsewhere, he indicates 47 years old), that he was for 25 years, until 2006, in the Air Force as aviation mechanic then at the "big ears", that he is now a bodyguard in the private sector, that he is interested in computer science, astronomy, ham radio.

He said he had been passionate for a very long time by aerial phenomena of all kinds, that he subscribed to the "Lumières Dans La Nuit" magazine in 1978 and had himself observed twice "unknown air phenomena", including one time "around the year 1998" in Mutzig, with a military colleague of the time.

Hello everyone, registered for some time already I had not (I think ...) bothered to introduce myself, so let's fix this ...

my name is Philippe, I'm 47, currently in central France but I think i'll soon (I hope) move to more exotic places !!

a career of 25 years in the Air Army (aircraft mechanic then ... big ears (for connoisseurs of the term)).

I left the air army in May 2006 for the career of close protection officer (bodyguard).

passionate for a very long time by aerial phenomena of all kinds, I did subscribe to the journal "limieres dans la nuit" in 1978 and so i was following a bitt all developments in the genre. I had the opportunity to observe 2 times an unknown aerial phenomena (25 years in the Air army taught me to recognize a max of flying objects anyway ...): once in the year 1998 at mutzig (next to Strasbourg) with a military colleague of the time, and the 2nd time last summer (June 2008) 11:45 p.m. vertical of vierzon (so that even in the holes [= isolated small town] sometimes something happens ..); I have not had the opportunity to debate of these two observations, but this forum will inspire me maybe to do so. for the record, as I live in a 20 kms from the radiotelescope of nancay (dpt 41) I sometimes spend a lot of time in the area starry nights to watch the heavens, if a person is in the area we could organize an evening in this idea, with pleasure.

thank you all and see you soon I hope.

Discussion:

Map.

Mention of the sighting report is done, however, a circustancial report is in need.

Note that in Mutzig, is quartered in the neighborhoods Moussy and Clerc the 44th Signal Regiment, an electronic warfare regiment subordinate to the Intelligence Command. The unit participates in the acquisition of intelligence of electromagnetic origin in the depth and hosts a buried electronic warfare center and detachments of autonomous transmissions. This is what the reference to "big ears" by Philippe refers to.

Evaluation:

Totally insufficient information.
