A UFO in the sky of Flaxlanden?

At around 11 p.m. Tuesday a couple living in Flaxlanden and a friend of theirs observed a slightly flattened object of an incandescent white in the direction of Bruebach. It was first the husband who, getting out of his car, noticed a luminous object which seemed to land behind a maize field. The phenomenon lasted about one minute. Back home, he settled in with his wife and their guest at a window on the 1st floor. From there, the three people saw the object in question for about 2 minutes leave without any noise in the direction of Mulhouse.

WE THE UNDERSIGNED R[] A[], Major, Officer of Judicial Police, D[] A[], Constable, GIVEN THE ARTICLE(S) 16 to 20 and 75 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, REPORT THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS WE HAVE CARRIED OUT, ACTING IN UNIFORM AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ORDERS OF OUR CHIEFS

On this day, August 7th, one thousand nine hundred and eighty at nine hours, we learn that an inhabitant of the town of [] ([]) observed during the nights of August 5th and 6th, 1980, a mysterious phenomenon in the sky.

The same day at 9:30, we go to [] ([]). We are looking for this person. This is Mr. S[] A[], residing at No. [] Street [] at []. We proceed to his hearing (see Minutes of Hearing attached - Exhibit 2).

The mysterious object described by Mr. S[] A[] moved above the locality "[]", territory of the commune of [], towards the Municipality of [].

ACTIONS TAKEN / - We have notified our Company Commander of the facts reported by this witness, by message Nr 418 / 2H.

- On the same day, we successively made contact with the following organizations and services:

• The Air Base [132] of [Meyenheim] which tells us of night flights at 5.8.1980 in the evening and no flight on 6.8.1980 in the evening.
• The [Basel-Mulhouse] airport reports no abnormal event, but significant air traffic on 5 and 6 August 1980 evening and no flight on 6.8.1980 at night. They tells us of the flights of 5.8.1980 in the evening, given by the tape recorder.
  
  - 22 hours 53 - takeoff of the runway [], towards the SOUTH, a [].
  - 22 hours 55 - Landing same runway of a DC.9
  - 23 hours 05 - Takeoff of the runway [] towards the NORD, a []
  - 23 hours 12 - Flight, above level 100 (3,500 meters) very fast (950 mph) in direction WEST-EAST.
• The [] weather station reports that the night sky of 5 and 6 August 1980 was clear with 2/8 cloud, and no meteorites or other objects were reported.

INVESTIGATION / - at 8.30 p.m. on 8 August 1980, we proceed to the hearing of Mrs H [], [A], wife of [S]. (See Minutes of Hearing attached - Exhibit 3).

- On the eighth of August, nineteen hundred and eighty at sixteen o'clock, we proceed to the hearing of Miss P [] M [], friend of the S[] family who confirms the two previous statements. (See Minutes of Hearing attached - Exhibit 4).

- After these auditions, we took photos from the garage door and the window of the 2nd floor overlooking the locality "[]". (See attached photographic sheet - Exhibit Nr 5).

- We make contact with the Secretary of the Town Hall of []. No similar facts were reported by other witnesses.

THIS DAY, August, nineteen hundred and eighty, WE THE UNDERSIGNED D[], A[], GENDARMES, APJ, GIVEN THE ARTICLES 20 AND 75 OF THE CODE OF CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS REPORT THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS THAT WE HAVE CARRIED OUT, ACTING IN UNIFORM AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ORDERS OF OUR CHIEFS, at [], on the seventh of August, nineteen hundred and eighty at ten thirty, we hear:

A[], S[], [] years old, Commercial Agent, residing street [] at [], ([]), born on [] at [], son of [] and [], [], married 1 child , of French nationality who declares to us:

"Around 11 pm, on Tuesday 08/5/1980, by closing the door of my garage located in the basement of my home, I noticed a phenomenon coming from my left, meaning east-west.

"The movement of this machine lasted about 20 to 30 seconds in the direction indicated, with very slight altitude drops. Then the machine veered on the spot, changed direction towards the SOUTH, in my direction, by increasing volume. At that moment, I noticed that it had an elongated shape, with a central light. The lighting was shaped like a banana.

"Then I called my wife and a friend who is on vacation at my house to see the phenomenon, that's when it went to the east and disappeared.

"A few minutes later, about ten minutes, I was obliged to go to the 2nd floor. It is always intrigued by this vision, that I opened the window and looked through it. I then again found that the object seen previously was moving in the same conditions and on the same trajectory of EAST - WEST.

"It seemed to me that it was maneuvering roughly like a helicopter looking for his balance, then it headed back to the northeast, gaining altitude and disappearing in the clouds.

"On interrogation: The calm was complete, I did not perceive any noise making think neither of a plane, nor of a helicopter, ie to no flying machines with a known motor.

"I specify that I waited ten to fifteen minutes, nothing more happened.

"Yesterday evening, the 08/6./1980 around 11 hours 45 p.m., I found the same phenomenon in the last phase, ie, the flight of this machine towards the NORTHEAST. The observation was very brief, about 15 seconds, I only saw the bright spot that was moving away at high speed with a feeling of acceleration. I waited a while, while I was on the second floor, I saw nothing anymore.

"Upon interrogation: I have been domiciled at No. [] Street [] at [] for three weeks, previously I lived at [] at [].

"Shortly after 11 p.m. on August 5, 1980, my husband called me following the first observation of a flying, luminous and mysterious phenomenon.

"I joined him at the garage door. I saw the object, a very luminous point moving from WEST to EAST and seeming to descend. Its diameter was about five centimeters. Then it disappeared.

"My husband closed the garage door, we went back into the house, and then, after about ten minutes, my husband called me from the 2nd floor, the object had reappeared from the east, it was moving EAST WEST, its path was not straight, then it moved away gradually, the point diminished and it disappeared.

"At one point, when the light dot was moving from WEST to EAST, I could see on the left side of the object a flicker of the same color, i.e. white.

"Upon interrogation: We made the silence around us and I did not hear any noise from this object.

05 at about 11:00 p.m. In Mulhouse, Haut Rhin, people observe in the sky the passage from east to west of a phenomenon of elongated shape and emitting a central light, which suddenly changes direction to go south, then full east. In the same evening, other passages of this type were recorded by the witnesses.

- Basel / Mulhouse airport reports numerous aircraft flights that night. According to the GEPAN the witnesses probably made an observation of an aircraft.
