Case of Kembs, on April 9, 1980:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1980-04-09-KEMBS-1

Summary:

An article by journalist Jean-Marie Stoerkel in the regional newspaper L'Alsace, dated April 9, 1980, reported that 27-year-old Patricia Dziomba, a pharmacy assistant living in Bollwiller, told the gendarmes of Huningue that she had been chased on 3 kilometers by a UFO, Wednesday around midnight, in the Hardt forest at the exit of Kembs.

She had visited friends in Kembs and was returning home on the CD 56 bis towards Habsheim. About three kilometers after leaving Kembs, as she was crossing the forest, she suddenly saw a kilometer ahead of her a very luminous ball, white-orange, coming down from the sky and coming towards her, on the road. It was as big as the three lights of an airplane, and lit up the sky like a sunset, though it was a quarter to midnight.

She said: "The luminous ball was in front of my car, I was suddenly scared, I panicked and I made a U-turn on the road with my car. I lost sight of the phenomenon, and then suddenly the ball was in front of me, before my car and getting closer. At the entrance of Kembs, this UFO was following me. There, in a bend, my car suddenly stalled. I was so scared that I could not tell you if I made a driving mistake or if the engine stopped by itself, but no matter how hard I tried to turn the ignition key, there was no longer any reaction, as if the battery was totally dead."

Terrified, she abandoned her car and ran "like crazy" at Kembs' first house, at Michel Ludwizak's and his wife's home, 7 rue de Schlierbach. As the young woman rang the bell, the ball was still coming closer and turned around the house. It was then midnight.

A few minutes later, when Miss Dziomba came out with Mr. Ludwizak and his wife, the UFO was even closer and more distinct. It was a huge rhombus and they clearly saw white lights alternately lighting up "like a whirlwind." The object was motionless, silent, "as big as an airplane".

The UFO, silent, disappeared soon after.

The journalist adds that the day before, when she told him what she considered an attack by a UFO, she was still in shock. "Go figure what would have happened if I had not turned back on the road," she said.

The journalist heard the confirmation from Michel Ludwizak, a postman in Saint-Louis, who said: "When the young woman came knocking on our door and, panicked, she told us what was happening to her, we went out, with my wife, we did not see anything then, but five minutes later, I came out and saw a ball already far away, we went back into the house, and ten minutes later, getting ready to drive Miss Dziomba back home, the mysterious phenomenon reappeared, this time in the form of a rhombus, with red ends, with white lights inside. This saucer was the size of a plane, just above the trees and about 300 meters from us, but it was not a plane, it lasted five to ten seconds, then the apparition disappeared to the south."

Shortly after the sighting, the three witnesses had alerted the gendarmes of Kembs and those of Huningue. Those in Huningue heard them at length and took the case very seriously, especially since it came from "different people who appear to be trustworthy and who were convinced that it cannot in any case be an airplane", the gendarmerie of the Huningue brigade and the company of Mulhouse told.

The reporter adds that at the radar station of the Basel-Mulhouse airport, "the possibility that there was something at that time" was not excluded, "although there is nothing precise."

The next day, April 10, 1980, the same newspaper published an article pointing out that there had been "other witnesses."

The UFO was also reported by a resident of St. Louis, Mrs. Pfeiffer, 68, and a Swiss engineer from his home in Muttenz, north of Basel. The two witnesses also located this "ball with flashing white and red lights" above Kembs.

And at the Mulhouse-Basel airport, "where some discretion is observed", it is stated that "nothing precise was recorded by the radar". The reporter commented: "Which does not mean that there was nothing."

Two days later, on April 11, 1980, the newspaper published another article about the other witnesses who had come forward the day before. Mrs. Pfeiffer lived in the Rue de Trois Lys in St. Louis, and her observation took place shortly after 11:30 p.m., from the window of her bedroom, towards Kembs. It was a very bright glow, motionless in the sky, at a rather high height, and in the shape of a plate. It remained motionless for more than five minutes, so it did not seem to be an airplane to her. Intrigued, she continued her observation and noted by taking as a landmark the chimney of a house located just in front of hers, that the light moved very slowly towards the East, where it disappeared suddenly.

It was the gendarmes of Huningue who had gathered on April 10, 1980, the testimony of the Swiss engineer, who is also an airplane pilot and wanted to remain anonymous. As this affair seemed extraordinary to him, he insisted on what he saw on Wednesday evening around midnight, from his home in Muttenz, near Basel, on the first Jura hills. From his house, he saw the UFO, which he thought was about fifteen kilometers away, in his north, thus above Kembs. He described it as a ball with flashing red and white lights. It is formal: it was not an airplane.

At the airport, it was pointed out that the luminous phenomenon observed by these various witnesses could not be an airplane, because the three planes that circulated at the Basel-Mulhouse airport that evening between 11:45 p.m. and 00:10 a.m., a Swissair DC-9, a Fokker 28 and a Cessna, had been followed normally by the radar. It was initially thought that the movement of a circular object had appeared at the same time, but it was later explained that "nothing special" had been noticed on the radar tape recording that was later viewed in the presence of gendarmes.

It is explained that the recording are not done continuously, and that often, on the radar, disturbances appear, or echoes of constructions appear, like for example the water tower of Kembs. The airport does not exclude "the possibility that there was something".

The case is then resumed in brief summarized by the Reuters news agency in France, the Springer news agency in Germany, and therefore appeared in French and German newspapers.

In autumn 1980, the journalist and ufologist Robert Roussel met Patricia Dziomba and the Ludiwizaks, and collected the same story, with more details. Patricia Dziomba gave the date of April 10, 1980, and the hour as 00:45 a.m. She was with her friend where she had spent the evening. Returning home, after driving for a few minutes, she was in the forest when she saw, on the left side, a light:

"At the time, I thought of a star, and then, very quickly, it became bigger and bigger and it was always lower, so I thought it might be a a plane. But it was going downhill faster and getting very bright, I thought this light was going to land on the road, and at that moment I was a bit worried and gave a big braking and I stopped, I was wondering what I was going to do, I had already read about UFOs and I always thought that the day I would encounter anything I would stop and I would get out of the car to check it out, my heart was beating very hard and I was completely unable to make a decision, I was braking, I was leaving again."

"Finally, I decided to make a U-turn as quickly as possible, intending to go back to my fiancé's house, and at that moment I thought about it and told to myself that I must have been a victim of my imagination."

"While casting worried looks towards the sky, I reached the entrance to the village of Kembs."

"That's when I saw a huge orange-colored ball, much bigger than the full moon, coming in front of me and I was very freaked out, but since there was only Five hundred meters to go, I tried to reassure myself that soon I would be safe, I was about to turn at the end of the road, but my car suddenly stopped, I do not know if I made a faulty maneuver caused by fear. In any case, my vehicle stopped, I could not restart it despite my attempts."

That's when she left her car, rushed to the nearest house, whose lights were out. The occupants were the Ludwizak, a young couple who had gone to bed fifteen minutes before. The door having just opened, Patricia Dziomba took refuge in the entrance, stammering: "They follow me! They follow me!"

Mr. Ludwizak who had just opened then saw the car in the middle of the road, lights on, door not closed, but the pharmacist shouted to him: "No, no, that's not it! It's up there!

With trembling hands, she pointed to the sky, disturbing the couple who did not know her. Mr. Ludwizak went out into the street, and inspecting the scene, saw in the distance in the sky a luminous point that was moving away.

Still panicked, Miss Dziomba asked the couple to bring her back in her car at her friend's home she wanted to reach. His house was a few hundred meters away. With good grace, the couple took place in the car and the pharmacist drove. She tells:

"I had barely driven for two meters, when suddenly there was a huge machine surrounded by a lot of lights, and I thought it was big like a house, it was huge. it was unimaginable, seeing it go down so low, it looked like it was going to crash on the ground! It stabilized and we could see that it had the shape of a diamond with all around the white and red lights, every time he came down, we saw the red lights coming on, I had the feeling that it could correspond to the braking, the white reminded me of the light of the neon lights, while the red seemed very bright, the whole mass looked dark and dull, and for me there was no doubt that it was a machine, and for the other two people also. I rushed into the couple's house and hid in the kitchen. It even seems that I kept shouting: "They'll take me away, they'll take me away!" Well, that's what I was told the next day, because I do not remember. It's funny, I was so scared that I do not remember such details. I was not the only one: like me, the woman was very frightened. On the other hand, the man found that extraordinary. He even ran to the end of the street to see what direction this machine was taking. It's as if he had witnessed the passage of a racing car in his street! It did not disturb him more than that. This vision lasted two to three minutes."

"During the entire appearance, we did not even think of trying to take a picture, all three of us were stunned by what we were seeing. We watched as we wondered what was going to happen. All this happened in perfect silence."

Robert Roussel adds that the couple lived with the pharmacist this second appearance of the phenomenon, the most spectacular, explaining that it is not useful to reproduce their statements, which would only repeat that of the young woman, and are completely consistent with her narration.

Robert Roussel then discusses that the young woman had, after her experience, been interested in the famous case of "abduction by aliens" of Cergy-Pontoise, determined later to be a hoax. She thought that elements of this case could have shed light on her own case, she found that case, told in a book by Jimmy Guieu, likely. She was convinced that if she had not had the reflex to rush into the first house she found, she would have been the victim of an abduction, and this story had above all the merit of making the agonizing pursuit she had been a victim of logical to her.

As there have been several Gendarmerie offices involved, as well as the airport, one can be fairly certain that official documents exist. But although GEIPAN, the service now in charge of such affairs, has published many such files, this one has not yet surfaced.

NEAR KEMBS

A young woman pursued by a UFO

[Photo caption:] Miss Patricia Dziomba. (Photo Daniel Schmitt)

A resident of Bollwiller, Miss Patricia Dziomba, aged 27, preparative chemist, told the gendarmes in Huningue that she has been chased for three kilometers by a UFO on Wednesday around midnight, in the forest of the Hardt just outside Kembs.

A white luminous ball approached her car and forced her to turn around. At the entrance in Kembs, the vehicle, still pursued by the mysterious craft, suddenly stalled. Miss Dziomba fled by foot, and trembling with fear, rang at the door of the first house. The inhabitants, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwizak, also saw a few minutes later the flying saucer "as big as an airplane, still and silent, with white lights swirling," The UFO disappeared soon after. The gendarmes of Mulhouse and Huningue take this matter very seriously.

In the forest of the Hardt near Kembs:

A young motorist pursued for three kilometers by a UFO

In "L'Alsace", on Thursday, 6 March, we asked the following question: is the Hardt monitored by aliens? Since the beginning of the year, several UFO sightings - Unidentified Flying Objects - were made in the Haut-Rhin, in particular between Weckolsheim and Dessenheim, in Ottmarsheim and more recently over Mulhouse. Now, to think that "little green men" are watching us, and that they do it more frequently, especially over the Hardt, well...

The testimony of Miss Patricia Dziomba, aged 27, preparative in pharmacy, based in Bollwiller, is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary registered in Alsace. Miss Dziomba, who had been visiting friends in Kembs, was returning home on Wednesday night, taking the CD 56a toward Habsheim. About three kilometers after the exit of Kembs, while crossing the forest, she suddenly saw a kilometer before her a very bright ball, white-orange, descending from the heavens and coming toward her on the road. It was as big as the three lights of a plane, and lit up the sky like a sunset. Yet it was 15 minutes before midnight. "The luminous ball came in front of my car, tells Miss Dziomba. I was suddenly scared. I panicked and I turned around on the road with my car. For one kilometer, I lost sight of the phenomenon. And then suddenly the ball was in front of me before my car and approaching. Until the entry of Kembs, this UFO was following me. There, in a turn of the road, my car suddenly stalled. I was so scared I could not tell you if I made a driving mistake or if the engine stopped on its own. But although I tried to turn on the ignition key, there was no reaction. As if the battery was completely dead."

Terrified, Patricia Dziomba then abandoned her vehicle and ran to "ring like crazy" at the first housing in Kembs, that of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwizrak who live at 7, rue Schlierbach. While the young woman rang the bell, the ball approached again and turned around the house, then it was midnight. A few minutes later when Miss Dziomba came outside with the man who gave her shelter, and the latter's wife, the UFO was even closer and above all more distinct. It was a huge diamond shape, just like the flying saucers of science fiction books, and we clearly saw white lights that lit up alternately like in a whirlwind. It was motionless, silent, as big as a plane." Last evening, when she was telling us what she considered like an assault by a UFO, Patricia Dziomba was still in shock. "Who knows what would have happened if I had not turned around on the road," she added.

The gendarmes: a serious business

Mr. Michel Ludwizak, postman in St. Louis, confirms the testimony of Miss Dziomba: "When the young woman came to our door and, panicked, she told us what had happened, we went out with my wife. We did not see anything then. Five minutes later, I came out and saw an already distant ball. We returned again in the house, and ten minutes later, as I was preparing to drive Miss Dziomba home, the mysterious phenomenon had reappeared, this time in the form of a diamond, with red ends, with white lights inside. This saucer was about the size of a plane, just above the trees and about 300 m from us. But it was not a plane. That lasted five to ten seconds. Then the apparition disappeared to the south.

Soon after, the three witnesses alerted the police of Kembs and those of Huningue. The latter interviewed them at length yesterday and take this matter very seriously, especially since it comes from different people who appear trustworthy and who are convinced that it may in no case be a plane", the Huningue gendarmerie brigade as well as the company of Mulhouse state. As for the radar station at Basel-Mulhouse airport, it does not exclude" the possibility that there had been something to that time, although there is nothing precise."

The UFO of the Hardt

Other witnesses...

Two new witnesses came yesterday to consolidate the statements of Miss Patricia Dziomba, the young woman of Bollwiller, who was chased Wednesday around midnight by a UFO near Kembs and those of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwizak, with whom she had sought refuge and who spotted shortly after the flying saucer "big as a plane" 300 meters of their home. The UFO was also seen by a resident of St. Louis, Mrs. Pfeiffer, aged 68, and by a Swiss engineer from his home in Muttenz, north of Basel. The two witnesses also locate the "ball with white and flashing red lights" above Kembs.

At the Mulhouse-Basel Airport, where some discretion is observed, one states that "nothing precise was recorded by the radar set." This does not mean that there was nothing.

Our picture: can a UFO be confused with the "radar angels", these various echoes that often burst on the screen?

The UFO which pursued the young motorist

Other witnesses in St. Louis and Switzerland

The case of the UFO which chased Wednesday around midnight, three kilometers in the forest of Kembs, a motorist of Bollwiller, Miss Patricia Dziomba, is taken very seriously by the Huningue gendarmes who are continuing their investigation. In addition, other witnesses came forward yesterday.

Let's recall, as we explained in yesterday's edition, the young pharmacy preparative had just left Kembs, taking the CD 56a to Habsheim, when appeared in the sky an orange ball that immobilized in front her. After her vehicle suddenly stalled and was impossible to start it again, Miss Dziomba took refuge at the first house of Kembs whose inhabitants, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwizak also managed to observe, a few minutes later, the strange UFO that was immobilized within 300 m of the house, at treetops height, and was as big as a plane, but silent and not moving.

A resident of Saint Louis

Two new testimonies, following our article, were given yesterday. There was first that of Mrs. Pfeiffer, 68, living in the Rue des Trois Lys in St. Louis. She observed Wednesday shortly after 11:30 p.m., from the window of her bedroom, in the direction of Kembs, a very bright glow motionless in the sky, at a considerable height, and shaped like a plate. This bright ball remained motionless for more than five minutes, and did not seem to be a plane to her. Ms. Pfeiffer, puzzled, then continued to observe and found out, takink a landmark as a reference point, the chimney of a house located just in front of her own, and she saw that the glow was moving very slowly eastward to disappear suddenly.

A Swiss engineer

For their part, the Huningue gendarmes collected yesterday the testimony of a Swiss engineer who is also a pilot, and Who wishes to remain anonymous. This case seemed extraordinary to him, he wanted to tell what he saw around midnight Wednesday night from his home in Muttenz near Basel, on the first Jura hills.

From his home, he also saw this UFO that he estimated to be about fifteen kilometers away to the north, thus above Kembs. The Swiss engineer described the phenomenon as a ball with red and white flashing lights. He insists that it was not a plane.

"Radar angels"

At the Basel-Mulhouse airport, on the contrary, some discretion is observed on this case. It is admitted that the luminous phenomenon observed by these witnesses cannot be a plane, the three aircraft that flew at the airport Basel-Mulhouse that night between 11:45 p.m. and 00:10 a.m. (a Swissair DC 9, a Fokker 28 and a Cessna) were normally followed by the radar. The first It was first thought that at the same time the motion of a circular object appeared on the radar screen. But, one says, nothing special was noticed on the radar tape which was played later in the presence of the police. But this tape is not recording continuously and often on radar, disturbances or echoes of buildings are appearing, such as the water tower of Kembs. Specialists call these disturbances "radar angels." But, as we said yesterday, at the Mulhouse-Basel airport, one does not exclude "the possibility that there was something".

"FLYING SAUCER" IN ALSACE

STRASBOURG. -- Three witnesses claimed to have observed, the other evening, for many minutes, a UFO moving in the sky of Kembs (Haut-Rhin), near Mulhouse-Basel airport.

The airport control tower also recorded a moving spot on its screens and certified that it could not be an airplane.

Miss Patricia Dziomba, a twenty-seven-year-old pharmacy technician, was driving her car in the La Hardt forest around 11:30 p.m. when she saw an orange luminous ball in the sky. Becoming frightened, she turned around and knocked on the first house in the village of Kembs.

The young couple who lived there were also able to observe the UFO, which, in the meantime, had come closer and looked like a "flying saucer lined with flashing white and red lights", according to witnesses.

The Huningue gendarmerie, which is leading the investigation, will have to examine the recordings from the control tower at Mulhouse-Basel airport where the moving spot was observed between 11:50 p.m. and 00:30 a.m.

Alsatian UFO:
Two other witnesses

STRASBOURG. -- The UFO which moved in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, on Kembs (Haut-Rhin) was observed by two other people, which brings to five the number of visual witnesses of this phenomenon.

The gendarmerie of Huningue has, in fact, recorded the statements of a Swiss engineer, an airplane pilot, who wishes to remain anonymous, and that of a resident of Saint-Louis, Mrs. Pfeiffer, 68 years old. Everyone, from their homes, observed a motionless luminous ball which moved very slowly, above the Kembs region, between 11:30 p.m. and 12:20 a.m.

Miss Patricia Dziomba, a pharmacy assistant, said she was chased on Wednesday evening by an orange luminous sphere as she was driving home. Two residents of Kembs, approached by the distraught young woman, had also observed the craft, whose color had changed as it approached and which had taken the form of a flying saucer, according to the latter.

At the Basel Mulhouse airport, where it was first thought a mobile circular object has been observed, some discretion is in order. One cannot exclude the probability that there was something, but nothing could be observed on the recording tape of the airport control tower by the gendarmerie.

STRASBOURG. - The UFO which moved in the night from Wednesday to Thursday on Kembs (Haut-Rhin) was observed by two other people, which brings to five the number of visual witnesses of this phenomenon.

The Huningue gendarmerie has indeed recorded the statement of a Swiss engineer, an airplane pilot, who wishes to remain anonymous, and that of a resident of Saint-Louis, Mrs. Pfeiffer, 68-year-old. Each from home, observed a luminous ball motionless or moving very slowly, above the region of Kembs, between 11:30 p.m. and 00:30 a.m.

Miss Patricia Dzimba [sic], pharmacy assistant, said she was chased Wednesday evening by an orange luminous sphere as she drove home. Two inhabitants of Kembs, alerted by the distraught young woman, had also observed the craft, whose color had changed as it approached and which had taken the form of a flying saucer, according to them.

At the Basel - Mulhouse airport, where one initially thought to have observed a moving circular object, some discretion is currently required. One does not exclude "the possibility that there was something", but nothing could be observed on the recording tape of the control tower, viewed by the gendarmerie.

Other witnesses saw the U.F.O.

A U.F.O. that was moving in the night from Wednesday to Thursday on Kembs (Haut-Rhin) was observed by several people.

The Gendarmerie of Huningue recorded in particular the testimony of a Swiss engineer, plane pilot, who wishes to remain anonymous, and that of a resident of St. Louis, Mrs. Pfeiffer, 68 years old. Everyone, from home, observed a luminous ball motionless or moving very slowly over the Kembs area between 11:00 p.m. and 00:30 a.m.

Another witness Miss Patricia Dzimba [sic], a pharmacy assistant, said she was chased Wednesday night by an orange sphere as she was driving home. Two residents of Kembs, alerted by the distraught young woman, had also observed the machine, whose color had changed as it got closer and that had taken the form of a flying saucer, according to them.

At the Basel-Mulhouse airport, where it was initially thought that one observed a mobile circular object, some discretion is currently in place. They do not exclude the possibility that there was something, nothing could be observed on the tape of the control tower, viewed by the gendarmerie.

UFO ABOVE KEMBS.

A weird observation was made on Wednesday April 9, 1980 around 11:30 p.m. by a resident of Bollwiller. Miss Patricia Dziomba, 27, had just left the town of Kembs behind the steering wheel of her car and was heading towards Habsheim by taking the CD 56 Bis, crossing the forest of the Hardt. Suddenly she had her attention drawn to a luminous orange ball that she saw in front of her, through the windshield. Worried, she decided to turn back. But having made a U-turn and driving towards Kembs, the luminous object was facing her again. At the entrance of the commune of Kembs, Miss Dziomba's vehicle failed. Distraught, the driver ran to ring the bell at the first house in the village. The resident and his wife in turn saw the unidentified flying object.

A report was recorded at the local gendarmerie brigade. At this precise time, the control tower recorded on its radar screens the movement of a circular object between 11:30 p.m. and 12:40 a.m. The tape of the radar observation was kept and will be viewed by GEPAN.

UFO sighted over Fréland
by the commanding officer of the CM 104
of Colmar

A UFO was sighted, Sunday around 10:30 p.m., above Fréland. Witnesses to the event: Lieutenant-Colonel Yves Le Naelou, commander of the mobilizing center 104 of Colmar and his wife, domiciled rue de Girogoutte.

Lieutenant-Colonel Naelou took the cool after the broadcast of the movie "747 in danger" on the first television channel when he saw a metallic object under which lights flashed and equipped with nozzles on its sides. The craft seemed to be on the other side of the valley, towards the Bonhomme pass, in the direction of Chamont, and seemed to be landing. Lieutenant-Colonel Naelou then called his wife who, with binoculars, also made the same observation.

Lieutenant-Colonel Le Naelou was heard late yesterday afternoon by the Gendarmerie Lapoutroie. Searches were made on the spot and the gendarmes are looking for other people who made similar observations on Sunday evening (they can be reached at 47.50.14.)

One of the most recent UFO sightings dates back to November 30, 1982. A young motorist of Zillisheim, 18-year-old Thierry Stehlé, claimed to have been followed by an unidentified flying object as he was crossing the Hardt Forest between Petit-Landau and Habsheim.

His story is also reminiscent of the one lived in April 1980 in the same sector by a young woman from Bollwiller, Miss Patricia Dziomba.

A UFO was interested, the other night, for a long time in a young motorist in the HARDT forest near KEMBS (Haut-Rhin). According to the "victim" Miss Patricia DZIOMBA, 27 years old, pharmacy technician, who was driving around midnight on Wednesday, a "luminous ball coming from the sky, and heading towards her appeared, three kilometers from KEMBS.

Frightened, she turned around and went back in the opposite direction to encounter, a little further on.... the UFO which made her drive to KEMBS where the car stalled. Panicked, Ms. DZIOMBA rushed to the first house to find refuge. Meanwhile, the UFO continued to get closer to her. The residents, Mr. and Mrs. LUDWIZAK, were able to contemplate the object by opening their door. The gendarmerie interviewed the couple LUDWIZAK and Miss DZIOMBA.

2nd - Outskirts of KEMBS

Testimony of Miss P .: Wednesday April 9, 1980 between 11:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. I was with a friend at KEMBS and decided around 11:30 p.m. (approximately) to return to my home in BOLLWILLER (distance 29 km by the road). 1 hour before leaving, I felt weird (note that Miss P. knows this road very well having taken it many times).

Driving on this road (0. 56 Il - vehicle R.6 year 1973), I see a high point in the sky which descends. Being near the landing pattern area of ??the planes landing at BALE-MULHOUSE, I thought of an airplane, accidentally discovering this bright spot through my windshield. I had been driving for about 1.5 km from the start of my friend's house, having just passed the Maison Forestière on my right and still following this point. Suddenly it began to grow to take a larger size in the sun, about 5 to 8 m, remaining stable above the trees to my left, as if seeming to wait. I was panicked. I was alone at the time on the road and alone in the car. I had driven about 3 km in total. I braked suddenly before deciding to turn around to regain KEMBS. Executing my maneuver in 2 times (Miss P. was already on the widened portion of the road), the ball came forward, lower still on the left.

- Very bright orange-white ball: Color chart 124 or 136 - The sky was black and we could not make out any stars.

QUESTION: Were you looking when you left if you saw the phenomenon?

ANSWER: I looked around in the rearview mirror, sideways, to see if this ball was following me. Nothing appeared. I was excited and drove as fast as the car allowed (110 to 120 km / h according to Miss P.)

I took the first road back into KEMBS, heading towards my friend's house. At the KEMBS Stadium, leaning over, I see the phenomenon passing behind a

Scan.

house (that of Mr. and Mrs. L.) to face the car (being at this moment there in front of the house of Mr. and Mrs. L, Miss P. sees this ball behind the house on the left, the phenomenon moving at this given moment on a rectilinear trajectory). This ball was always lower, much closer and much bigger, the same color as the first sighting, but it looked brighter.

QUESTION: Did we see the contours, antennas or anything else ...?

ANSWER: We could not discern the exact contours, but it lit up the water tower which is nearby, but much later (when Miss P. came out with Mr. and Mrs. L.) like a sunset of Sun. Arrival in front of the house of Mr. and Mrs. L., MY CHECKED VEHICLE.

QUESTION: How long have you been driving?

ANSWER: For 9 years. It seemed to me to be beyond my control. I cannot tell if my foot was on the brake pedal at the time. I think I was in 3 ° I tried to restart. No starter, the key turned fully as if there was no more battery (the lighting worked).

QUESTION: Have you had these incidents before or have they been repeated since Wednesday?

ANSWER: No, never. Neither do I have any problems now, the car starts well.

QUESTION: Did you come to a standstill before starting?

ANSWER: ...... (She thinks) .... Yes ..., yes, I'm sure. I realized at this point that I would not restart again. I was looking for shelter, a contact, someone. I ran to the house on my right (Mr and Mrs L.'s house)

Investigators' notes: Time elapsed between leaving home and returning to Mr. and Mrs. L's house: about 5 minutes.

QUESTION: Why this house? Another was in front ...

ANSWER: The house seemed closer, more open, the garden in front, seemed shorter.

- (probably Miss P. could not immediately find the small entrance gate to the house on her left. It is on the low wall oppo-

Scan.

view of the place where it was, portal hidden from view by a telegraph pole).

QUESTION: Did you know the people in this house?

ANSWER: No, I knew this house from having passed by several times before. I think the phenomenon SEEMS TO BE CONTINUING ME.

Arrived on the threshold of the house, I rang the bell several times. Mrs. L. opened the door for me. I told her that a ball was chasing me, she and her husband came out right away and saw the sky lit up. Mrs. L. would have seen the ball go high in the sky. Her husband had gone out before to move my vehicle which was in the middle of the road, lights on (cannot tell if it was the headlights or the codes). Mr. L. moved it. This worked.

- Investigators note: Mr. L. moved Miss P.'s vehicle by pushing it (Cf. report by Mr. and Mrs. L.)

I was apprehensive to come out. I asked Mr. and Mrs. L whether they wanted to accompany me to my friend's home, 200 meters away. They came out with me, the sky was very bright above the water tower. You couldn't see anything else in the sky. Mr. and Mrs. L. took place in my car, me driving. Suddenly, the phenomenon reappeared at 45 ° west direction going south in a curve. We saw red and white lights as if it were spinning. (Red color in the color chart: 199). It was moving in the sky, seemed to wobble as if it were losing its balance, it was leaning enormously.

QUESTION: Can you give the size of the lights? and the size of the phenomenon?

ANSWER: Comparator: size 1 5. These lights were flashing, sometimes red, sometimes white. It was a non-continuous movement, sometimes there was more red, sometimes more white. The rest was a black, dull, metal-colored color.

The height .... like a house ... (looking for a comparison with that of his family) .... about 8 meters when he became stable. Before it was bigger .... c hercing on the goniometer ... size 7 cm and the height about 5 cm. We realized that he was very close.

QUESTION: Were you in the car?

ANSWER: As soon as we saw this machine, we came out. I reversed with the car and immediately returned to Mr. and Mrs. L, they had stayed in front of the house. I came home to keep the grandmother company and also because I was very scared. Then we both went out. I had the impression at one time that there was more red, and at another time more white.

[Photo caption:] House of Mr. and Mrs. L ...

QUESTION: Have you heard any noises outside, noises emanating from the phenomenon, barking dogs etc ...?

ANSWER: No, no noise.

QUESTION: Where were you?

ANSWER: I stayed on the steps. During all this time Mr. and Mrs. L. observed and then saw the phenomenon disappear. I haven't seen it.

TESTIMONY OF MR. AND MRS. L.
Wednesday April 9, 1980 11:55 p.m. - midnight

A ringing of the doorbell. Mr. and Mrs. L. had just gone to bed. Then several rings of the doorbell. Mrs. L. went to the door, open it. Miss P. entered very quickly pushing Mrs. L., she asked her:

- What's going on?

- A ball follows me!

Mr. L hearing this conversation came out and looked outside. Nothing, no glow.

"I didn't see anything as a light and came home laughing and saying 'There is nothing.' - Miss P. told me 'you mustn't laugh'. I thought she had hallucinations, then as she assured me, I took it seriously, seeing that she was not joking.

Mrs. L: Miss P. told me "I am being sued"

- but by what?

I went out and said to him: "Indeed, there is a car in the middle of the road".

Miss P .: "No, it's my car".

Shortly after she told me it was the ball. Miss P. looked very shocked. This conversation had lasted about 5 minutes at least.

Mr. L.: During this time the car was still across the road. I went out with my wife. It was only then that I saw the car, lights on, door open. I don't remember if it was the headlights or the codes. I said: "I will move your car because it gets in the way in the middle of the road".

I turned off the "headlights" and pushed the car to park it right in front of the house. I had NEUTRALIZED it before.

Mrs. L .: That's when I said "there is a ball in the sky, to the left of the water tower" - (comparator size: 5) -

Mr. L .: I look, I was not convinced.

Mrs. L: I said to Miss P. who had gone out on the porch of the house "Come and see, is it that ball?"

Miss P. then came and told us "yes" that's it, it's that color!

Note (Miss P. no longer remembers if she went out and saw this ball, the question was asked twice: 04.12.80 and 04.22.80 without result).

Mr. L .: Following this, I continue to put the car on the sidewalk. My wife and Miss P. were chatting. I'm sure Miss P. watched this ball at the water tower. I finish putting the car away, nightlights on. I return from 4.5 meters, my wife says to me: "Look there is no more ball". Disappeared. I was still not convinced of the phenomenon.

A mass of clouds was coming in and I thought the clouds were hiding it. I was still skeptical. Elapsed time about 5 minutes. The three of us returned. We offered a drink to Miss P. she refused.

I said to her, "Look, I'm going to drive around the neighborhood. Can I take your car? The tour is 500 yards, no more. I left it on the back burner. The heating or the ventilation worked, I am sure. It started without problem. I left while driving in codes, returned in front of the house, I put back on standby because of the turn, the car being parked nearby. I came back saying: “Listen, there is nothing.” As she was a little calmer, I said to her, “I am going with you to your friend's place”.

Mrs. L: "I said" I'm coming with you "seeing that she was not too decided. (Elapsed time: about 10 minutes according to the witnesses).

Mr. L.: We got out, got into Miss P.'s car, she driving, my wife next to it and me behind on the passenger side. She started straight away. We barely walked 5 meters, from the small to the large gate. Immediately, I say "hold on to the lights", she immediately braked dry. I got off immediately. She had just braked when I was outside the car was still moving, my foot was out right away she said "They're coming back to take me!"

This is where I saw those flashing red and white lights between the two rooftops behind our house. It looked like a plane, but it was too close. Miss P. backtracked at this point. My wife got out of the car behind me, before Miss P. reversed.

Mrs. L .: I said "stay there" when I saw my husband walking forward. I was a little scared.

Mr. L .: My first remark was that it didn't make any noise. I advanced on the road running (the one passing in front of Mr. and Mrs. L.'s house) to see more and more, to see this object which was hidden from me by the roof of a house behind. My wife was further behind. I wanted to see. The phenomenon was heading east, above the woods, horizontal trajectory, but

Scan.

the lights were oblique 2 or 3 ° oblique. It was neat. It was like some kind of racing car with a few degrees of incline that seemed to be diving, but it was really minimal. It stuck in my head. All of this moved horizontally with an oblique of the lights, but light. Perhaps it was the entire phenomenon that had this oblique, but the horizontal trajectory was clear. As I was quite advanced, I could still see him dive behind my cousin's house, a sharp dive, only to disappear. Miss P. was on the doorstep of our house with my mother.

Mrs. L .: After that, we did not want to accompany her and she telephoned her friend to come and pick her up, who then telephoned the HUNINGUE Gendarmerie Brigade. It was around 12:45 a.m.

Size of the phenomenon seen at the end of the street on its horizontal trajectory, seen by Mr. and Mrs. L .:

Length 6 to 6.5 cm at arm's length, height: 4 cm at arm's length.

REMARKS: Since Sunday 13.04.80 in the morning on the left arm only of Mrs. L. appear small grouped buttons similar to the drawing executed by Mr. L. His wife has never made a allergy until now. No itching. Finding made on Tuesday 15.04.80.

Mr. L.'s cousin, living in a house at the end of the street (distance of 200 to 300 m), watching a T.V. program this Wednesday April 9, 1980 around midnight, had interference and interference. - (2nd German Football channel from 10:40 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., French hours). Witness: Mr. KELLERHALS Philippe, 29 years old, residing in ALLSCHWILL (Switzerland). Bank clerk.

Atmospheric conditions: See Annex.

Card used: I.G.N. ALTKIRCH - Sheet XXXVII-2 1 1 / 50,000.

Position of witness: ALLSCHWIL, longitude: 7 ° 32 '08' 'EAST, latitude: 4 7 ° 32' 53 '' NORTH.

Date and time of the observation: Wednesday April 9, 1980 11:50 p.m. French time, time taken from the steeple of the church. The witness living nearby.

The witness saw at 23 h 50 above FOLGENBOURG (West - France distance 4 km) a yellow ball more [sic] brilliant than 100 in the PANTONE color chart.

Size of the ball: 7 to 8 at the comparator.

Under this ball appeared rays directed downwards of a red color brighter than WARM RED of the color chart.

Mr. KELLERHALS observed the phenomenon which remained fixed for 10 minutes then suddenly when a plane arrived from the West and heading East while passing vertically over NEUWILLER, the phenomenon suddenly moved to the NORTH- WEST, following a curve in the direction of HAUSGAUEN (grid 7 40-7 40 on the map) while performing jolts. The witness was able to follow this ball until 12:10 a.m. before it disappeared into the clouds.

Witness: Same.

Date and time of the observation: Friday, April 11 1 9 80 11:50 p.m. French time.

Position of the indicator: ALLSCHWIL same position.

The witness saw that evening the same phenomenon identical to the evening of Wednesday, April 9, 1980, having the same characteristics. The size given to the comparator was 5. The phenomenon was also towards the WEST in the region between FOLGENBOURG and HAUSGAUEN but much further. This sighting lasted from 11:50 p.m. to 12:25 a.m.

SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS OF APRIL 9 AND 11, 1980

Scan.

- INVESTIGATOR'S NOTE -

- The various witnesses seem very serious to us and we cannot doubt their good faith.

- These do not know each other (or did not know each other).

- No drop or electrical surge was recorded on Wednesday April 09 by the EDF MULHOUSE station (information collected by the HUNNINGUE Gendarmerie Brigade on the basis of the EDF recording books).

- The photos taken by RIXHEIM's witness ABSOLUTELY NOT REVEAL. The explanation would lie in the fact that:

a) - telephoto shots reduce the brightness very noticeably (negatives are white);

b) - the photo taken in pose was only too short.

- BALE-MULHOUSE airport received an unidentified radar echo on April 09, around 11:30 p.m.

It could possibly be an airplane, not equipped with a transponder, having made a circuit error. The passage of the video tape by specialists does not make it possible to identify this echo with certainty, but it can nevertheless be linked to the phenomenon (s) observed that evening.

- Mrs. L., from KEMBS, told us on April 24 that her arms and legs no longer had small buttons on them. But these did not heal normally and instead appeared bruises. She did not see a doctor.

- Mr. and Mrs. L., as well as Miss P. was recently contacted by a tabloid newspaper of general circulation to report their observations. These witnesses refused to the proposed haggling, which confirms our opinion that they want (or initially wanted, but there were awkward statements ...) to remain anonymous and not to make any publicity.

- These observed phenomena can also be linked to the observation made by two witnesses, above the "Petit Ballon" massif on the night of 12/31/79 to 1/1/80 (investigation transmitted). But it is difficult to make a serious relationship, the objects or their light emissions are different. There is also nothing to suggest a serious hypothesis. Finding HV lines near two observations (3/2/80 and 9/4/80) is not confirmed by the third (12/31/79). The state of the ground is also different.

- An investigation was opened by the HUNINGUE Gendarmerie brigade which, it must be emphasized, effectively helped us in our task and also enabled us to support them in the seriousness of their work.

West Germany

Youg woman chased by UFO

According to a report in the South German (Munich) newspaper Münchner Merkur for Monday, April 14, 1980, a young woman from the former German Province of Alsace (now the French eastern departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin) has had a frightening experience with a UFO. We regret the absence of such elementary details as place and time.

Patricia Dziomba, aged 27, dashed up to the doorway of a house and rang the bell, stammering: "I'm being chased by a flying saucer!"

The lady's story, as told to the press, is that she was driving along in her car when suddenly a brilliantly lit object came shooting down at a tremendous speed out of the sky and came straight at her. "I was terribly frightened and at once turned round and began driving back in the direction from which I had come. Shortly after that, I found the glowing sphere suddenly right in front of me. Then, at a bend in the road, l had another shock. My car stopped and the engine went dead. l tried vainly several times to start it again." Then, seeing a house about 200 meters distant, she got out of the car and ran to it. "As I stood there, right outside the door, I saw that the UFO was still there, flying round the house."

The owner of the house, Michel Ludwizak, who opened the door to her, states "After the lady had described her experience to me, I went out in front of the house and indeed I saw the ball of light myself. It was by then far off, but clearly visible."

Ludwizak and Patricia Dziomba at once went to the Police. In the course of the subsequent investigations transpired that the occupants of the control-tower of the Mulhouse-Basel airport had also seen something strange the same night -- an 'object' they said, 'which could not possibly have been an aircraft.' All further investigations regarding the 'spooky object' have proved fruitless. Subsequently two further witnesses claimed to have seen the flying saucer."

Credit and thanks to: Mrs. Mary Boyd of Florence, who also made the translation from German.

[Ref. rrl1:] ROBERT ROUSSEL:

As a preamble to the case, Robert Roussel says that it seems to call rejection because of the context of the moment even though the witnesses of the case have indisputable guarantees of reliability and balance. He says this is the case quad people communicate their experience "by tapping into themes of rumor justifications or references that will help them express themselves."

He then noted his surprise at the fact that GEPAN did not accept this case, while there were witnesses who did not know, a vision of a real oddity, a psychological process well described by Witness: all elements allowed the case to lend an exemplary way to a host of investigations.

He collected in autumn 1980 in Mulhouse the testimony of Miss Patricia Dziomba, 27 then, preparative chemist, he quotes:

"It was April 10, 1980, it was about 45 pm 0 and I had just left my friend with whom I had spent the evening. Driving a few minutes, I was then within a forest I then saw, on the left side, a light. At first, I thought of a star. And then, very quickly, it became more and more and it always came down below. I ' I thought then that it could be a plane. But it came down more quickly, becoming very bright. I thought that this light was intended to land on the road. At this time, somewhat worried, I gave a blow brake and I stopped. I wondered what I would do. I had already read about UFOs and I always told myself that the day where I would meet anything, I would stop and I go down car to see. My heart was beating hard and I was completely unable to make a decision. I was braking, I headed back."

"Finally, I decided to turn around as quickly as possible, with the intention to return to the house of my fiancé. At that moment, I reasoned, I said I had been a victim of my imagination."

"While casting worried glances skyward, I managed to enter the village of Kembs."

"Then I saw a huge rise ball, much larger than the full moon, orange color, which is placed in front of me. I was very panicked, but as there were only five hundred meters to go, I tried to reassure me by telling me that soon I would be safe. I was about to turn down the street, but my car has suddenly stopped. I do not know if I have a wrong maneuver caused by fear. Anyway, my car stopped. I have not been able to resume their journey despite my attempts."

She abandoned the car and ran to the nearest house, whose the lights were off. The occupants were a young couple who went to bed fifteen minutes before.

The door just being opened, Miss Dziomba took refuge in the entrance stammering: "I am followed, I am followed!"

The man who had just opened then saw the car in the middle of the road, lights on, door not closed, but the pharmacist yelled to him:

"No, no, not that! Now that's my car. It's happening up there!"

The hand shaking, she pointed to the sky. The couple who did not know her stared with concern and skepticism. The man came out on the street and inspecting the scene he saw in the distance in the sky a bright spot that moved away.

Still in the grip of intense fear, Miss Dziomba asked the couple to accompany her with her vehicle to the friend she wants to reach and whose house was a few hundred meters away. Agreeing, the couple sits in the car and the pharmacist drives.

"I had hardly made two meters when suddenly arose an enormous machine surrounded by a multitude of lights. I think it was big as a house. It was huge! We were there the three of mouth speechless: such a thing was unimaginable in the light down so low, he looked like he was going to crash on the floor There has stabilized and he was able to distinguish the shape of a diamond with! all around white and red lights. Every time he went down, we saw the red lights come on, I felt that it could match the braking. The white reminiscent of neon clarity, while Red seemed very bright. The whole mass seemed dark and dull. To me it was clear that it was a machine. For the other two, also. Completely panicked, I went back car, I rushed into the house of the couple and I hid in the kitchen He even seems I could not stop screaming. "! They'll take me, they'll take me" Finally, c is what I was told the next day because I own no longer remember. It's funny, I'm so scared that I did not remember such details. I was not alone: ??like me, the woman was very frightened. For cons, the man thought it was amazing. He even ran to the end of the street to try to see where this thing was taking. It is as if he had witnessed the passage of a fireball in his street! That was not it more effective. This vision lasted two to three minutes."

"During all the appearance, it did not even come to our minds to try to take a photograph. All three of us were stunned by what we saw. We were watching, wondering what was going to happen. All this took place in perfect silence."

He adds that the couple lived alongside the pharmacist the second appearance of the phenomenon, the most spectacular, saying it does not find it useful to reproduce their statements, which would only repeat what we know, and which are entirely conform to the narration of the pharmacist.

Robert Roussel then discusses about the young woman being, after her experience, interested in the famous case of "kidnapping by the extraterrestrials" of Cergy-Pontoise, determined later to be a hoax. She thought that elements of this case could have shed some light on her own case, she found the scenario described in the book [by Jimmy Guieu] about the case very likely.

She was convinced that if she had not had the reflex to rush into the first house, she would have been the victim of abduction, and this story had above all the merit of making logical the agonizing pursuit she had been a victim of.

Robert Roussel notes that, as a result, a psychologist would consider that she had become deeply conditioned by the information conveyed by the rumor and subjected to subjective impulses, and therefore no more able, in the face of her observation, to exercise critical judgment.

Robert Roussel turns away from such an idea:

"But how would this reference to the events that the young woman had no opportunity to determine, in a personal way, the degree of authenticity, alter the credibility of her own story? The content of it and narrative medium used by the observer are two separate things that the investigator, in its analysis, will be careful not to confuse."

He does not, however, neglects to specify that missing appropriate comparison to help them express their experience or make it explicit, it is foreseeable that witnesses use the information offered to them by the media.

He regretted that an official investigation, with hearings with the technical staff of the Basel-Mulhouse airport distant only a few kilometers from the place of observation, was not conducted.

The airport staff contacted by local journalists indicated that the seen object could be not have been an airplane, but they refused, however, to indicate whether they held a radar record of the observation, stating cryptically "that nothing definite had been recorded."

He says that Patricia Dziomba, sometime after her observation, dreamed three times of UFOs, while she had never had such dreams previously. She particularly remembered one of these dreams. It was in the night with a friend at the steering wheel of his [or her] car. An unidentified flying object appeared and emitted a large beam that came down on the vehicle. From that moment, this person felt sucked up into a vortex and lost track of time.

Note that this abduction dream unquestionably recalls the episode of Cergy-Pontoise.

He comments:

"[...] the young person at the beginning of the testimony, questioned the conduct to adopt towards the event. Her uncontrolled reactions make her fall into the category of the hallucinated. If this person had not been able to communicate her vision, her strong emotion resulting in her inconsistent behavior condemned her not to be believed. Subjectivity clouds of a thick fog the essence of the event and obliterates much of the information coming to the conscience of the witness. The next day she could not remember having done certain actions or uttered certain phrases. In many ways, the incidents described by witnesses of close encounter - and it is even more significant for contact experiences - are very similar to the behavior of people experiencing delirium. Faced with such disorders, proponents of the psychosocial explanation invoke misinterpretations and behavioral disorders. The ufologists, on their side, talk of abductions of unconscious people, travels in the fourth dimension..."

Observation

A young woman driving on the D56 returning from a friend in Kembs observed a bright spot. Suddenly it starts to take a bigger size larger than the remaining steady sun above the trees. The young woman panics, suddenly brakes and turned around to go to Kembs. The object during the maneuver gets closer still. She returns to the village. At the level of the stadium she bends and observes the phenomenon go behind a house. The object is now very low and much bigger and brighter. Arriving at the house behind which the object is, the car stalls. Despite several attempts, the engine would not restart as if the battery was empty. She gets out of her vehicle and rushed to the house. She rings, a couple comes outside to whom she tells that a ball follows her. The husband comes out and pushes the car abandoned in the middle of the road to clear the way, he then observed a ball in the sky on the left of the water tower. Moments later the object is no longer visible. The three people get back inside the house. The man gets outside again to start the vehicle of the witness and goes round the neighborhood. The couple decides to accompany the young woman to the friend who lives 200m away. The three get in the vehicle. The driver starts, after five meters, the man observed the lights, the driver slows down and sees red and white flashing lights behind the house, he advances on the road and observed the phenomenon that goes to the east and plunges behind a house. The lights form a diamond of approximately 8 m. It must be noted that a neighbor who was watching TV at the time of observation had interference and noise at the time of observation. The Basel Mulhouse airport confirms unidentified radar echo at the time of the observation. A witness observed at the same time an object from German-speaking Switzerland an object at the level of Kembs, evolving towards the southwest faster than a plane.

On Wednesday April 9, 1980, between 9:30 p.m. Miss P...... D......, 27-year-old pharmacy assistant is chased for three kilometers by a UFO, in the HARDT forest, at the exit of KEMBS.

A white luminous "ball" approaches her car and forces her to make a U turn.

At the entrance to KEMBS, the vehicle, still pursued by the mysterious machine, suddenly stalls.

Miss P. D. flees on foot and, trembling with fear, rings the doorbell of the first house.

Its inhabitants, Mr. and Mrs. L.. see, a few minutes later, the "flying saucer"; "as big as the three lights of an airplane, motionless and silent, with whirling white lights". The UFO disappeared soon after.

The "Welt-am-Sonntag" for April 13, 1980, citing the Springer Foreign Service (SAD): "The fear of UFOs in Alsace": Patricia Dziomba, 27, pharmacist assistant from Mulhouse (Alsace), felt she was chased by a UFO on a Saturday night by car: "Suddenly, a shiny object came to the ground at a tremendous speed and took my direction, I was terribly afraid, I made a U-turn and I returned. After one kilometer the luminous ball was suddenly in front of me. In a turn my car came to a stop. I turned the ignition key a few times, nothing..." The young woman rushed out of her vehicle and ran a few hundred meters to a distant house. Owner Michael Ludwizak also saw the sphere of light: "It was 300 meters away and seemed immensely big, after ten seconds it disappeared." At midnight, an official from the control tower at the Mulhouse / Basel airport discovered on the radar screen an object that could not be an airplane. The next morning, two other eyewitnesses, a Swiss pilot and a pensioner, called the police. The agents read the tape recordings of the airport, but they could not find any suspicious object.

Reuters announced on April 14, 1980, the message "Aggressive UFOs across Europe": Mulhouse. The aggressive behavior of an unknown flying object occupies the police in Upper Alsace. There is the testimony of a 27-year-old resident of the border town of Kembs that a "luminous sphere with turning lights" cut her way home with her car and forced her to turn back. The testimony of the young woman is confirmed by two other witnesses, who would also have noticed the object "big as a plane" after being alerted by the scared driver. The UFO disappeared a few minutes after the attack without a trace. (Source: Badische Zeitung)

Case N ° 6

On April 9, 1980, Miss Patricia Dziomba, a young pharmacist at Kembs in the Upper Rhine, was a victim of a UFO.

As she was traveling towards midnight in the Hardt Forest, Miss Dziomba saw a luminous ball coming from the sky and then moving towards her vehicle. Frightened by the phenomenon, the young woman made a U turn and went to take refuge in Kembs still pursued by the strange object which made her engine stall!

It was Mr. and Mrs. Ludwiak who picked up the driver. All three could detail the pursuing object. It was a silent and motionless diamond the size of an airplane, equipped with two flashing white lights.

Close contact and harassment of land and air vehicles are part of a phase of ufology study that few researchers have been interested in. Other astonishing issues can be found in the reports of the National Gendarmerie.

Discussion:

Map.

The Moon:

First of all, of course, it is necessary to check the situation of the Moon in the sector of the Hardt forest on April 9, 1980 around 11:30 p.m. For any case of a UFO said to be "pursuing" a vehicle, or even for any case, it must be done.

On April 9, 1980 at 11:30:00 p.m., from Mulhouse (47° 45' 0" North, 7° 21' 0" East), the moon was not visible. Its height was 37° below the horizon. It rose at 2:39 a.m., passed the meridian at 7:22 a.m., and had set 12:09 a.m. 34.6% of its surface was lit, it was in its last crescent.

Is the date safe? Sometimes an erroneous date causes a trivial explanation such as moon, meteor, fall of rocket debris etc. to be wrongly eliminated.

My first source L'Alsace for April 9, 1980 [lae1] gives the date as "Wednesday around midnight". This Wednesday is thus April 9, 1980, date moreover given in the ufological sources; but this date is precisely an ambiguous date since "around midnight" is at the limit between two dates. Which one is correct?

The same article further says that the main witness was returning home from a visit to friends "on Wednesday evening". This tends to confirm that it is the night between Wednesday April 9 and Thursday April 10.

Next we have in [lae2] another witness, Ms. Pfeiffer, and her sighting is "Wednesday shortly after 11:30 p.m.".

Then we have Robert Roussel who notes: "It was April 10, 1980, it was around 10045 a.m.". But as the observation appears on the 9th in L'Alsace...

All this is somewhat approximate, no doubt, but I can therefore consider that the moon is well out of the question. It is not visible in this time range from April 9 to April 10, 1980.

GEIPAN:

It is clear from the newspaper L'Alsace that the main witness went to make a statement to the gendarmes of Huningue, and that "The gendarmes of Mulhouse and Huningue are taking this matter very seriously."

But there is no published file on the case on the GEIPAN website. Was the file lost? Forgotten? Is it yet to be published?

The route:

From the newspaper L'Alsace, we read:

She "had been visiting friends in Kembs, she was on her way home", "by CD 56 bis, towards Habsheim. About three kilometers after leaving Kembs, as she drove through the forest," she sees the UFO.

She was "pursued for three kilometers by a UFO", "in the Hardt forest at the exit of Kembs."

We read "it was a quarter to midnight. The light ball went in front of my car," "I panicked and turned my car around on the road. For a kilometer, I lost sight of the phenomenon. And then suddenly, the ball was in front of me, preceding my car and approaching. Until the entry of Kembs, this UFO followed me. There, in a bend, my car suddenly stalled..."

The "white luminous ball approached her car and forced her to make a U turn. At the entrance in Kembs, the vehicle, still pursued by the mysterious craft, suddenly stalled. Miss Dziomba fled on foot, and trembling with fear, rang the doorbell of the first house."

So:

She is in Kembs around 11:30 p.m., takes her car to return, heading towards Habsheim by CD 56 bis. After about 3 kilometers from the exit of Kembs, she is in the Hardt forest, and sees the UFO (in front of her) at 11:45 p.m. She makes a U turn, thus resuming the direction to Kembs, loses sight of the UFO for 1 kilometer, then sees it again in front of her, approaching, then following her. On a bend at the entrance to Kembs, her car stalls, and she sets off on foot to Kembs' first house at this exit.

There, Mr. Ludwizak opens the door. She tells him what is happening, the Ludwizaks go out and see nothing. Five minutes later, Mr. Ludwizak comes out again and sees "an already distant ball." They go into the house. Ten minutes later, he was about to drive Patricia Dziomba back, and the phenomenon reappeared, "this time in the form of a diamond, with red ends, with white lights inside. This saucer was size of an airplane, just above the trees and about 300m from us. But it was not an airplane, it lasted five to ten seconds." Then it "disappeared south."

We have the sighting from Muttenz in Switzerland, and that of Mrs. Pfeiffer from rue des Trois Lys in Saint-Louis.

Here is, first, a general map of these places:

Scan.

Caption:

North to South on the map:

Rixheim airfield: location of an airfield for passenger planes.

Habsheim: direction Patricia Dziomba had taken to return home. The road is the CD 56 bis, entirely in a straight line, starting from Kembs. (Patricia Dziomba did not live in Habsheim, she only passed through it on her way home to the potassium basin.)

U-turn: place where Patricia Dziomba turned around, having seen the UFO in front of her. The place is given as being 3 kilometers from the exit of Kembs

Exit Kembs D 56 bis: place where, her car having stalled, she left it to go to the first house.

Euroairport: Franco-Swiss-German Airport of Basel Mullouse.

Mrs. Pfeiffer: location of the additional witness cited, Mrs. Pfeiffer, in Saint-Louis.

Muttenz: location of the additional witness in Switzerland.

The distances are:

The maximum observation distance from Patricia Dziomba is 3 kilometers, on CD 56 bis, between the "U turn" and "Exit of Kembs on the D 56 bis."

The Rixheim aerodrome is 12 kilometers from the u-turn location, 14.5 kilometers from the Kembs exit on the CD 56 bis. The Basel-Mulhouse airport is 8 to 9 kilometers from this Kembs exit.

Mrs. Pfeiffer is 12 to 14 kilometers from Patricia Dziomba's route during the sighting. Muttenz's witness is 22 to 24 kilometers from the places of observation of Patricia Dziomba.

Ms. Pfeiffer is 2 to 3 kilometers from the Euroairport runways, the Muttenz witness is 11 to 14 km away.

Now, here is the map of Patricia Dziomba's route:
