ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case in Alsace, in July 1978:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1978-07-00-ALSACE-1

Summary:

In the Belgian ufology magazine Inforespace issue 99 of December 1999, a witness, Mr. Pascal L., of an observation in the region of Nancy dating back to the night of 12 to July 13, 1978 exactly, also reported that the following Sunday, or perhaps the one after, he had read an article from the Nancy regional newspaper L'Est Républicain, reporting the sighting of a triangular UFO by Alsatians, which described exactly what he had seen a few days earlier in the suburbs of Nancy, with the same details of triangular shape, color, a central circle, silence during the flight. The UFO had been seen between Strasbourg and Colmar and would have gone to Germany.

This witness adds that in 1980, while he was doing his military service, an officer had told him to his great astonishment that he was dealing with UFO files, and confirmed this observation to him immediately when he had told him about his own observation near Nancy.

Pascal L. explained that he no longer posessed this newspaper article, that it is certainly in the archives of the newspaper, and that he had been extremely satisfied and happy to find confirmation of what he had seen, and that this had allowed him to prove to those close to him that he had not dreamed or hallucinated that evening since other people lived the same experience, several kilometers away.

[Ref. ine1:] UFOLOGY MAGAZINE "INFORESPACE":

The magazine published the account of a witness, Mr. Pascal L., of an observation in the region of Nancy going back to the "night of July 12 to 13, 1978 exactly". This witness added the following.

The following Sunday (or perhaps the one after), an article appeared in the Nancy regional newspaper, "L'Est Républicain". There was a text relating the sighting of a triangular UFO, made by other witnesses, Alsatians, who described exactly what I had seen a few days before in the suburbs of Nancy, and this with the same details: shape, color, central circle, silence during flight. This triangular UFO (a single object) had gone towards Germany. Much later, while I was doing my military service (1980), an officer who, to my great astonishment, told me that he was in charge of UFO files, immediately confirmed this observation to me when I told him about my own testimony.

Reading "L'Est Républicain", I was extremely satisfied and happy to find confirmation of what I had seen and also to prove to my loved ones that I had not dreamed and not had hallucinations. Since that evening other people had the same experience as me, several kilometers away, between Strasbourg and Colmar. I no longer have the article mentioned above but it should be possible to find it in the archive of the daily newspaper.

Discussion:

Without a date, without a precise location, and as I did not find the matching newspaper article yet, I cannot evaluate this sighting, I cannot even be sure it occurred, I cannot be sure it would not be some known sighting in Alsace in those time but misdated.

Evaluation:

Totally insufficient information.
