In September 1988, ufologist Joël Mesnard published a catalog of previously unpublished French cases in the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit of which he became the editor.
Among these was a case that took place in Sainte-Reine-de-Bretagne, in the Loire-Atlantique department. The date is uncertain since the witness, Mrs. Berry, had first indicated the end of the summer of 1954, then in a second, more detailed letter, written on December 8, 1973, she had indicated as the date "June 1954, at the end of the month." Mrs. Berry, when she wrote her letters, was over eighty years old.
She reported that after surgery, she was in a nursing home, when one evening around 7:30 p.m., another recovering person alerted her of the nearby presence of a "flying saucer":
About a hundred meters from the building, a bronze-colored object with a diameter of about 1.80 m, moved along the ground, seeming to spin very fast on its axis. "Multi-colored rays escaped from slits all around, of colors blue, orange, yellow, red."
Approximately every three seconds, the object rose about one meter above the ground, only to fall immediately. It made no perceptible noise.
After three or four minutes, the object rose at high speed, climbed very high, and disappeared in an easterly direction, "vertiginously", without leaving a trace. Mrs. Berry had specified that the visibility was perfect.

There is also a contradiction between two accounts of the event that follow, accounts due to Mrs. Berry. This lady first indicated, by mail, the end of the summer of 1954. In a second letter, more detailed, written on December 8, 1973, she gave as date "June 1954, at the end of the month". There is no doubt cause for indulgence, since Mrs. Berry was then over eighty years old. It is frequent that people, even much younger, experience some difficulty in situating an event in time, and indicate, during successive accounts, slightly different dates. This is commonly verified, and about facts unrelated to the UFO phenomenon. It would therefore probably be wrong to see in a contradiction of this order an element likely to weaken the credibility of the testimony.
