Summary:

In 2009, a non-anonymous 72-year-old reader of my website informs me by email that he was one of the witnesses of the passage of a huge UFO over the city of Le Havre in the summer of 1954, perhaps in September.

He indicated that the object was a metallic-looking fuselage similar to the fuselage of current airliners and similar or larger in size than a Boeing 747, but without wing, without tail, without engine. It was not an airship, he said, but really a fuselage like the current airliners, but with on the entire length of the object, totally oversized portholes, which seemed to be 1 meter in diameter and were strongly illuminated from the inside.

The observation took place at about 5 or 6 p.m. in daylight and nice weather, the object moved, according to his memories, above the city at less than 200 meters from the ground, in slow motion and in total silence, following a arc of a circle, and its passage lasted for more than 30 minutes. Then suddenly, it accelerated at an unimaginable speed and disappeared from his sight.

All his observation was made from the balcony of an apartment on the second floor of a building near the railway station area.

He indicates that at the time, hundreds of witnesses had made the same observation, and that the object had been seen throughout the department. But there was only a few lines in "Le Havre Libre", then nothing more.

He indicates that at the time, he was 18 and was a Merchant Marine Officer student, but had no cameras. He explains that it is unthinkable that this UFO was not photographed because it stayed for a long time above the city of Le Havre.

He explains that this is the first time he shares his testimony, but that one sees what he describes, one does not doubt the veracity of the phenomenon, one only wonders about its origin.

Hello,

I just stumbled on your website completely by chance, I am interested in the phenomenon and I firmly believe in it since I was one of the witnesses of the passage of a huge UFO above the city of Le Havre during the summer of 1954 (I would say in September but this remains to be checked)

The object a fuselage of metallic appearance similar to the fuselage of our current planes and a size similar to a 747 or even larger but without wing neither tail neither engine nor jet engine. It was not an airship but really a fuselage of current airliner with however an enormous anomaly in the comparison because over the entire length of the object, there were totally oversized port-holes, I would say 1 m in diameter and strongly lit from the inside.

The observation is done by daytime at the end of the day (17 / 18 hr) by very beautiful weather above the city of Le Havre, the object moved according to my memories at less than 200 m of the ground. It flew idly over the city and in a total silence following an arc of circle, its passage lasted more than 30 minutes then suddenly it accelerated at an unimaginable speed and disappeared from my sight all my observation was made from the balcony of an apartment located on the second floor of a building close to the district of the railway station.

I specify that at the time hundreds of witnesses made the same observation and that the object was seen in all the department, photographs were certainly taken either by the local journalists or by the Navy but as usual the affair was quickly silenced, some line in the newspapers of "Havre Libre" then nothing more.

At the time, I was 18 years old and I followed studies of Engineer officer of the Commercial Navy but I did not have any camera unfortunately. In my opinion it unthinkable that this UFO was not photographed as it remained a very long time above the city of Le Havre and it would undoubtedly be interesting to check the files of the local newspapers of the time.

I have just been 72 years old and it is the first time that I deliver my testimony but when you see what I have just described, you do not doubt the veracity of the phenomenon but only wonder about his source.

Since sme time things evolve and new irrefutable testimonies bring water to the mill of this mystery. Will I live long enough still to know the truth finally? God only knows.

I think I said everything but if you have questions, I remain available to you.

Sincere regards / [Firstname] [Name]

It was not an airship but really a fuselage of an existing airliner with, however, a huge anomaly in the comparison because over the entire length of the object, there were totally oversized portholes, I would say 1 m in diameter and strongly lit from the inside. With this kind of testimony one can only ask questions. What happened in the skies of France, and in particular the country of Caux in 1954?

Explanations:

Map.

Unidentified.

So far I could not get to check the newspapers of the area about this.

The local newspaper Le Havre Libre, founded in 1945, merged with the newspaper Paris Normandie in July 2016.
