Summary:

In the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit #320 for September 1993, and in his 1997 book on the French wave of 1954, author Jean Sider quoted an article from the newspaper L'Yonne Républicaine, of Auxerre, for October 20, 1954, page 4: which reported:

"A correspondent alerts us about several people that saw a strange object in the meadows, in various places, several days in continuation, on the side of Ligny-le-Châtel and Varennes. We will try to check this information and to communicate the results as soon as possible."

Jean Sider noted that the article was followed by a call for witnesses "in case of extraordinary appearances" on the initiative of Charles Garreau, journalist and ufologist. Jean Sider indicated he did not find any follow-up on this in later newspapers.
